  1. Re: Champions miniatures By any chance Blue, was the house made from Hirst Arts bricks? Keith
  2. Re: Champions miniatures Great work Bill, she looks perfect! Just one problem... You forgot to tell us the recipe! No fair not sharing the secret sauce with the rest of us. Keith
  3. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! I hope I get it finished too Bill! Our Champions game looks like it is going to be cancelled for tomorrow evening, so I might just get it finished yet. If I can get the mod work finished tomorrow evening, I should be able to get it primed before the weekend and painted before midnight on the 31st (the 31st is the new deadline, right?). We'll see. Wish me luck! Keith P.S. I need to head out and pick up a few items to go on the base of the fig. Might need to pick up a few Epic Warhammer 40K parts for that...
  4. Re: Champions miniatures More great work Bill. I'm not familiar with this guy (haven't picked up Galactic Champions), which is another reason why the Monster might have been the better entry for the contest. Still, this guy is another example of your modding skill. Great stuff, thanks for sharing! Keith
  5. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! Really nice work Bill! I'm not sure if my entry is going to be ready unfortunately. We'll see. Need to find a little more time to work on him this week. Keith
  6. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! One way we could get Proditor to be able to enter the contest would be to see if Steve or some of the other folks over at Hero Games might be willing to act as the judges, freeing Proditor (and any one else for that matter) to be able to enter without any bias (of course employees and their families at Hero Games would be ineligble). Keith
  7. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! First things first... Another great mod Redmenace! You've set the bar for this contest as I expected you might. Proditor, very sorry to hear about your computer. I've lost a drive or two before, and know how long it can take to recover everything. In my case, the delay would work out well and I would appreciate a little extra time to work on a conversion. Like I mentioned before, while I've got lots of ideas, time has been limited in quantity. The light is at the end of the tunnel though. It would be nice to put something together for no other reason than to get the feedback (remember, I'm a newbie!). Let us know if the 31st works Proditor, otherwise, I'll look forward to seeing everyone else's entries. Keith
  8. Re: Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge! Bill: There are a couple of good ways to get HeroClix figures that I use: 1) Even though you down played it, eBay is actually a great way to get large numbers of figures for mods. The last several lots I've bought end up being less than $.50/figure, and that's after factoring in shipping and handling. Sure, I get a few figures I don't really think I'll use, but that's far less than if I bought the booster packs. 2) Your local gaming store or comic book store might have some bins or shelves of "singles", figures removed from the booster packs and sold individually based on their R, E, V or Unique status. My gaming store for example sells the rookie figures to me 3 for a dollar (I get a discount since they know I buy so many). Since I only use them for Champions minis, I don't care that they are the rookie figures. What I'm wondering is if there is a way to purchase whole sets of a particular series of HeroClix figures. How else are these guys selling the entire base set of Infinity Challenge figures, or entire base sets plus the uniques for a given line on eBay? Do they buy in bulk at conventions or something? Is there a wholesale method of buying an entire set through WizKids? Keith
  9. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! I had no luck with either Pine Sol or Brake Fluid for the HeroClix figures despite having great results with both for metal figures and plenty of good luck using brake fluid on plastic figures. There is something about the HeroClix paint that is just really resistant! I did find one thing that managed to work well though - Acetone. Careful, this is strong stuff! I use a masonry jar with enough Acetone inside to submerge the figure. I drop the figure in and swirl the jar a few times. Just a few seconds in the acetone is enough to remove a ton of paint. I then remove the figure, and brush it down with a toothbrush under some lukewarm water, periodically dipping the brush in the acetone. Over exposure to the acetone will eventually break down the figure, as will (strangely) using cold water and acetone on the figure at the same time. It does work very well though and if done properly does NOT damage the figure. Keith P.S. I'm attaching a scan of a few X-men figures I've used this stripping technique upon so you can see the results. If you look closely, you'll notice that there is still a little paint in the crevaces that resisted this technique as well.
  10. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! You could be in luck Steve. Prod., RM and I have posted some good recipies for Ankylosaur, Utility and an idea or two for Dr. Silverback already (different thread). Come to think of it, I just now got an idea for the Slug too (Woohoo!). We'll see if one or more of these end up making a showing in the end. Keith

  12. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! Bill, since I loved the Grond mini so much, where did you post the Harbinger one? I'd love to see it! Keith
  13. Re: Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge! Glad to hear it RM! Be sure to let me know how Deuce turns out. Out of curiosity, which part was bugging you, and how did the posting help? I'll give my Dr. Destroyer recipe a try with the Bron figure after I finish my version of Ankylosaur and let you guys know how it turns out (might be a while though since I have little time these days for hobby work - more's the pity). Keith
  14. Re: Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge! Was wondering when you would post Redmenace! Thanks for sharing all of the ideas! Here's an idea I had for Dr. Destroyer (was saving this until I tried it myself, but maybe you guys can figure out the parts I'm missing for the lions head shoulders, etc.): Dr. Destoyer (CKC) - Start with a HeroClix Baron Zemo base, add a touch of putty to his existing crown and head to make it the extra bit closer to Destoyer's helm. Carefully remove the holstered side arm from his right hip. For the cape I was thinking that a HeroClix Clayface might work. For a more armored look, replace the hands and feet with the hands and feet from a HeroClix Ultron. Another body that is close and might work is the HeroClix Indy Bron figure. This one wouldn't need the Clayface cape, but instead you would head swap the Zemo head for Bron's and transfer the hands and feet of Ultron as above. The advantage of the Bron figure is that it already appears to be wearing some armor, and has some shoulder pads similar to Dr. Destroyer's. What do you guys think (you've been doing this a lot longer than I have after all...).
  15. Re: Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge! Hey Proditor, what do you think of this one? Istvatha V'han (CKC) - Begin with a HeroClix Yukio figure from their Indy line. I'm not certain, but it almost looks like you could just fill in the hair with putty to form the regal hood that is shown behind Istvatha's head in CKC. Add a little more putty to make the shoulder pads, belt and hip pieces.
  16. Re: Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge! I'll look forward to seeing your ideas Elbandit. Have fun in your game this weekend. Keith
  17. Re: Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge! Ok, over 140 views, and Proditor and I are the only two posting? No one else has any good contributions? Bummer. Oh well, keep the ideas coming Proditor, I for one am really looking forward to the next time I sit down to do some conversions. Keith
  18. Re: Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge! Had some other ideas for figures: Hazard (Millenium City) - A HeroClix Parademon Scout is almost perfect as is. Cut off the axe, and add a gun (pick your favorite) in its place. Repaint in gold and brown. Deuce (Millenium City) - Use a HeroClix Marvel Girl (x2 one for physical form, and the second for her Shadow Self) for the body. Perform a head swap using a HeroClix Wonder Woman (x2 again). To make the Shadow Self look more like a flyer, swap out one of the Wonder Woman figure's legs for Marvel Girl's, or just do a minor repositioning/bending of Marvel Girl's legs. Paint the Shadow Self black and highlight to taste. Paint the human form in Psi colors as appropriate. On a different note, I've got a great idea for a Dr. Destoyer mod, but I can't find anything that might work for the lion's head shoulder pads. Any one got any ideas for how to do them?
  19. Re: Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge! Here's another Gorilla that might do for the hands, feet and head of Dr. Silverback.
  20. Re: Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge! Do you know the recipe? Another way to do Silverback would be to use a HeroClix T. O. Morrow, or possibly a HeroClix Kingpin, and put a gorrilla's head, hands and feet on him (Perhaps from HeroClix Grodd or Ultrahumanite)?. Maybe not as much work as you think. I've been thinking a HeroClix Skrull head would look about right on the right body. Perhaps this body would do!
  21. Re: Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge! Here's an original one I'm going to have to try out when I get the chance: Black Harlequin (CKC) - The body is the HeroClix Joker, the head is actually HeroClix Harley Quinn with the nose filed down a tad, cut off the fish the Joker is holding in his hands, drill a hole through one hand, and use a bit of wire for a cane. Viola! Instant Black Herlequin (see image attachments for how my version of BH came out). Here's another recipe: Defender: Simply repaint a HeroClix Titanium Man with the appropriate color scheme (doesn't get any easier!).
  22. Re: Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge! I'll keep the Redmenace homage going with some other recipies of his: Utility (CKC) - HeroClix Intergang Medic, head swapped with HeroClix Crimson Dynamo Ironclad (Champions - Champions) - HeroClix Infinity Challenge Hercules body with a HeroClix Dr. Sampson head and some putty hair. And here's another by keyes_bill Grond (CKC) - Heroclix Hulk (x2 for the other arms), Reaper Lizardman Tyrant for the head, toothpicks for the horns, and putty for the gaps. And finally, here's some of Proditor's own: Defender (Champions - Champions) - Reposed HeroClix SHIELD Mandroid, putty head. Yup, that was it. Nighthawk (Champions - Champions) - HeroClix Daredevil (the Critical Mass version), putty, and I'm not sure where the cape came from... think it might have been putty as well? Sentinel (sorry, don't know the exact reference) - HeroClix Crimson Dynamo (Lower torso/legs), HeroClix Avalanche (Upper Torso), HeroClix Blizzard (arms). Everything else was Putty, putty, putty. Proditor also has a killer Ultrasonique that I think he based off of a HeroClix Blizzard figure, but I don't know the exact recipe so I'll forego the quote. Here's an interesting one (done by Meat Maki I believe): Foxbat (CKC) - HeroClix Batman, HeroClix Blue Beetle (Ping-Pong Ball Gun), putty for the head alterations. Alternatively for the head, one might consider chopping off the top of a HeroClix Wolverine figure (just so you don't get his nasty snarl along with the wing tip mask).
  23. Re: A little help making an Ankylosaur figure... Actually Redmenace, I am on the HCRealms boards. You can find my there under the nickname "Myrlyn". I've been trying to read up on the tips folks have already made there, but the volume is staggering and I've had some trouble finding a nice mod FAQ. Keith
  24. Re: A little help making an Ankylosaur figure... Looking forward to seeing the next project Proditor. Send me a PM to let me know about the new thread once you start it, would you? Also, I might have found a secondary alternative base for the head. I was browsing through my cannon fodder collection, I mean bits box, last evening, and the Brainiac figure actually might make a good base for the head. The sides would need to be fleshed out a bit, and the prongs on the front of his helmet would need to be added, but otherwise it's a good match for the face plate I think. Also, I think you'll find that you can use Colossus' feet as decent replacements for the hoof feet of the rhino. His feet are actually in almost the smae position, you just need to use Colossus right foot for Rhino's left and Colossus left foot for the Rhino's right. Keith
