  1. Re: So what did the modding bunny bill actually win???? (Also, new contest news) I've seen a couple of different base figures used for the Tick. Here's a nive version some one did using The Juggernaut: http://mortal.peril.org/nazgul/Mods/TickMods/ Keith
  2. Re: So what did the modding bunny bill actually win???? (Also, new contest news) For the mod portion of the contest, does it make sense that the mods voting be based strictly on primed or unpainted versions of the figure only? The reason I bring it up is that Painting and Modding are two really different skills. While I think I do an OK job at Modding, Bill is going to kick my butt on painting each and every time. A fully painted figure presents a very different (and in the hands of a skilled painter) much more attractive figure to vote for. Just a thought, and I'm cool with it going either way. Something else to consider for the intial posts is a link or two to some good articles on Photographing your miniatures. I know for example that Bill does a fantastic job lighting and shooting his figures. It really brings out the best qualities for his efforts. My own photo skills are lacking severely, and it hurts my entry a little. Would love to get some tips on this even if it wasn't associated with the contest. Keith
  3. Re: This has got to be someone's team plane Has anyone built one of the Revell Maquis ships? I'm thinking it might make for a decent team transport: http://www.fantastic-plastic.com/MAQUIS%20SHIP%20PAGE.htm This one has some promise as well... http://www.fantastic-plastic.com/FLEDERMAUS%20PAGE.htm Keith
  4. Re: So what did the modding bunny bill actually win???? (Also, new contest news) Don't forget to post to the HCRealms.com website as well for the contest once you finally kick it off Prod! There are several folks over there that make some wonderful mods that could get into making some mods for HERO as well. Keith
  5. Re: Good toys for use with Champions... Nice one Prod. I've been shopping around for some decent vehicles for my heroes to use. Matchbox cars, etc. have been working great for the civilian vehicles, and I've managed to get several 18-wheelers, and construction trucks that work great. Still on the look out for a decent Police vehicle play set, helicopters, and most of all supped up vehicles for my heroes. There seem to be plenty of Batmobile hotwheels/matchboxes out there, but it is pretty obviously a batmobile. Finding something equally cool that I don't have to paint is going to be a bit tougher. Especially when it comes to team aircraft, etc. I picked up the X-jet toy from the movies for example, and while it might make a great alien cruiser that has crash landed, it's way too big for a team transport. I'm currently considering trying to modify a Warhammer Tau APC into something workable (perhaps like the Tau Catfish conversion). Any one else have any suggestions for team transports like this? Keith
  6. Re: Champions miniatures Great stuff as always Bill! Keep them coming! I get new inspiration from each new character you guys end up posting. Keith
  7. Re: Champions miniatures Keep them coming Red! Always a fan of your work. Keith
  8. Re: The New Avengers - Good Or Bad, Threat Or Menace? I started collecting the Avengers again when Busiek and Perez were doing the series. It just hasn't been the same since that partnership ended on the series. Marvel continues to butcher and destroy the comics I have loved for over 25 years. And the way the deaths that Bendis wrote for Scott Lang, Hawkeye, Vision and Jack of Hearts (all characters I loved) were just plain wrong. They completely lacked the heroic endings each of these characters deserved. And the whole new Captain Britain thing came off as being so contrived. Bendis needs to take a long holiday and stay away from Marvel titles for a while so that these characters can go on without his mucking up the formulas that worked for so long with these characters.
  9. Re: Champions miniatures Hey Blue: Have you managed to come up with any of the uniques for MM yet? I bought 6 packs the other day, and got some good figures. I used the duplicates I had to trade for some additional Hydra figures and some GCPD figures that I can use as Viper Agents and additional cops in my Champions games. Maybe you could do something similar? I've gotten a couple of figures I might not use as well. If you've got extras, let me know, and maybe we can work out some trades for other figures you might need. On a different note, I've got a new favorite figure for a base for different heros. The Skrull Commando. Once you clip off the head, you've got a really easy base figure for making all sorts of new heroes. Keith
  10. Re: Champions miniatures Hiya Blue, glad to see you're giving the stripping of the paint a try! I was initially surprised by this fact you've uncovered as well until I thought about it a little more. If memory serves me, there is an LE version of Wonderman that shows him in his ionic energy form. I'm sure their manufacturing process is similar for each version, and one they cover in paint, and the other they probably just glaze purple. What do you think? Keith
  11. Re: Voting results for the first Semi-Annual Champions Modding Contest Great job everyone! Can't wait for the next contest (Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink Proditor!). Everyone did a great job on these figs, and provided some great food for thought on more mods. In the interest of making the next one even better, here are some thoughts/feedback: Get some one else (possibly one of the Hero Games crew - Ben, or Steve?) to tally the votes. That way Proditor can participate too, and given the quality of his mods, I want to see more of his work! Possibly we could advertise/post the contest on other boards known for modder hang outs (HCRealms.com comes to mind). Some of the other fig mod folks might not frequent these boards a lot, but might be Champions players any way. Even they aren't, they might still want to make some mods. Again, great job organizing all of this Proditor. Thank you very much for your efforts, and thanks to the other guys for producing some great food for thought! Keith
  12. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! Thanks Bill coming from you guys these are high compliments. Glad you like him. Keith
  13. Re: Champions miniatures Hey thanks Mags! I feel pretty good about him for a first time effort. He does need a quick hit of Dull Coat laquer though. Keith
  14. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! Thanks RM and Blue! I wanted to add a small prop plane (like and old WWI fighter or WWII), but couldn't get a mini that would work well except the WizKids Crimson Skies figures (like this one), but I could only buy them in $15 blisters. Wasn't going to pay that much just for the effect, and didn't hav time to paint any of the old Crimson Skies metal figs. Keith
  15. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! You ain't kidding Proditor! Here's a slightly better scan of him... I placed him on the scanner for this one (which is why there are little green flecks... flock material fell on the glass). I'm going to try taking some better pictures later in the week I think, but I know judging has to be done on these. Keith P.S. Bill and RM, how do you guys get such nice pics?
  16. Black Harlequin Thought I would post this figure here in addition to the official contest thread that Proditor set up just to be complete. Here's some shots of the Black Harlequin mod/conversion I made. My first attempt at taking digital photos, so forgive me for the lighting problems... Keith
  17. Hope I'm not too late! Ok gang, my apologies for taking so damned long. Hopefully the wait is some what worth it... Without further adieu, here's my entry: The Black Harlequin! Our friend here is made up of several Hero Clix figures, The Joker's body, Harley Quinn's head, the hands of The Puppet Master as well as the puppet Susan Storm and The Thing. I also added a toy robot which is actually a CAV infantry figure. The cane is a piece of brass wire with a bit of putty added to the top. Keith P.S. If I'd had a little more time, I would have hit him with a coat of dull coat laquer I think... the Magic Wash is coming off a bit shiney. Also, I've never taken digital photos of a figure before, so lighting tips are welcome. In fact, I'm a hair late because the battery of the camera died as I was trying to upload the pictures to my computer for editing. Figures!!!!
  18. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! Ack! The pressure! Can't... take... much... more... of... it! Keith
  19. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! I still like it Blue (even with the big head)! Now, what did you use for the recipe? Keith
  20. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest!
  21. Re: Champions miniatures Just a quick FYI guys, I was able to get confirmation on the SuperFigs blow out. John Lauck from discounthobby.com sent me the following e-mail today in response to an inquiry I made: In addition, I found this info on their website (took a little hunting):
  22. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! If you are looking for some creative ideas to get the juices flowing Blue, just check out the various "recipies" that RM, Bill, Prod, and I threw together for some figure mods in the "Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge" thread Proditor started a little while ago. I don't think any of us would mind if someone took one of our recipes and actually made a figure from it so we could see how it came out... especially some of the recipies I posted, as they are purely theoretical (unlike Bill, RM and Proditor who have actually made figures from theirs). Here's the link to get the recipies: Thread - Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge! Hope this helps! Keith P.S. I still think we need to start a dB driven site/page/application that takes all of these various recipies and pics of the mods and allows folks to browse for ideas and concepts for their Champions figures. Ideally such an app would also allow people to post new recipies for figures, and perhaps even rate the submitted recipies. Then we can reference all of these great ideas quickly and easily.
  23. Re: The First (Hopefully) Semi-Annual Great Champions Challenge Modding Contest! Hiya Proditor! In my case I've just been swamped lately. I've been saddled with a nasty project at work for the past several weeks. I had hoped to have things cleared up enough to work on my entry more, but things keep getting in the way. Last night for example, I was at work until 1AM, when I had planned to be home working on my entry by 6PM. I'm not sure its fair to RM and Bill and others who will finish their projects on time if I, and others, are given more time and the folks that worked hard ahead of time to finish aren't given the same. Perhaps we could eleminate the single entry requirement as well if you extend the time, giving Bill and RM mroe chances to win for their efforts? After all, the real goal (besides the recognition from your peers) is to get some great Champions mods and conversions posted as examples to others, right? If you extend the contest, I should definitely be able to finish my entry. As it stands, I'm hoping I might still get it done, but it isn't looking good (I may be here late again tonight). Let me know what folks think. I'd still love to enter, and even if I can't finish in time, I'm still going to finish my entry at some point and will post it whenever it is done for others to comment on. Keith
