  1. Re: Wolves Lair

Wait, what does a scout for the local High School Varsity girl's team do?

I've only heard that term in relation to college or pro teams sending scouts to leagues below their own...

Go and watch other teams games to better prepare the team.

I have to agree with Solron. After discussing this with Terrie' date=' I think we will look for another game opportunity. Thanks anyway for trying Savinien.[/quote']

I understand the decision, but I can't say I'm not surprised. I thought we might be able to finagle the schedule a bit or something. We can always try again after the season is over in February.

  2. Re: Wolves Lair

It's in a Rolemaster Book I have' date=' so I can't scan it in for you, but send me the details of the keep (the more detailed the better) and I can send the info back to you.[/quote']

    Okay. Will do.

As for the rest of you... My schedule has suddenly changed as I'm helping with the local High School Varsity girls team as an assistant and scout. What that means to you guys is this:

    Game

    Jan 8

    Jan 22

    Jan 29

    Feb 5

I will likely be incomminicado until after 10pm my time.

Beyond that, the increased duties and my own procrastination have me ill-prepared for the game this Friday. I'll keep you posted and at least try and get some group emails flowing about my ideas and subsequent discussion in the mean time. I still want to run the game and play with y'all, I just can't do it on the above dates.

  3. Re: Wolves Lair

Don'tcha just love maya's happy go lucky attitude?

I would love to get the info, maya. I'm not sure how much of it I will use, if any, but I like to err on the side of caution with these things.

  4. Re: Wolves Lair

Have the changes that maya mentioned been taken care of?

I've been thinking about the group and think I have the Simmeret, the Sanguinary, and the Paladin backstory covered. We'll likely start the game in a Gobryn port city with the Paladin's initial arrival to Gobryn Duchy. The sanguinary with Simmeret mercenary await the arrival. As I don't have much information on any other PCs at this point... I'll go into further detail with individuals as the time nears, via either email (most likely) or PMs.

  5. Re: Wolves Lair

Hi everyone. I would recommend at this point that the group upgrade from Maptools 1.3b59 to 1.3b63. This new build will most likely be the last, or perhaps second to the last version before they declare this the completed street release and start development of version 1.4. The benefits of upgrading, are that we will experience fewer dropped players (more stability), and easier map making due to a new map/art repository retrieval system. The new repository retrieval system will allow the GM (or anyone) to make an art pack that holds maps, token art, object art, etc and host it as a zip file. Then the players (and other gaming groups if you share the host url) can download and auto-install the art pack from within Maptools. By having each player have thier own copy of the artwork on their local hard drive, it reduces the strain on the server, thus enhancing overall stbility, and shortening screen load times. This also has the effect of increasing the programs speed.

Let me know which way we are going. I think the existing campaign files should load just fine, but I would like a chance to test/troubleshoot just in case they don't.

Also are we going to have our official game start date be the evening of Jan 1 or the evening of Jan 8?

I concur with all of this. I would further request a start date of Jan 1.

I should let you know that I was given added duties at my job consisting of revamping the website and an added newsletter. I've been very busy with my regular stuff, but now the basketball season (that I coach) is over that should free up some time. I have quite a few obligations that I've been neglecting and this group is one of them. I appreciate Kam lending a hand with going over chargen. I'm likely not as turgid as he, but that will work fine in the long run. I've been chatting with the co-gm about the character group and we've come up with a few things. I still have to look more closely at the pc's. I'm notoriously cagey at chargen, but I will endeavor to persevere.

Further, I think you should all realize something. You've pieced together a group of characters that are mostly outsiders from the region and will likely been seen with witheld hostility by the 'natives'. I think you'll still have your allies (Asunite Church, Eastern Nobility, Sanguinaries), but you'll mostly be on your own. The Church of Asuna is seen by most as an invading religion. The Eastern nobility with hostility since the Plague Wall. Sanguinaries are known as Blood Mages by the common populace and Simeret as cold-blooded mercenary killers. I see the campaign as a fertile ground for moral ambiguities. If you're all fine with that we will continue.

  6. Re: Wolves Lair

Yes, I am trying to keep as close to canon as possible. I appreciate Kam's addendums in this thread as I'm not as readily available during the week as he is and we see mostly eye to eye on things. Especially when I'm going for canon.

  7. Re: Wolves Lair

Ok Starwolf set me straight on what you were meaning on the 180 pt. base............Duh ' date=' So I understand what you were saying Savinien and it is corrected on my character sheet.[/quote']

NO biggie. It's confusing compared to the way HERO has done it for the past two decades.

  8. Re: Wolves Lair

I do hope that somebody will post session summaries for HEROdom assembled to read. I am pretty excited for the old gang (Starwolf' date=' Terrie and Solron) to have fallen in so easily with a new game. I would be very interested in seeing how it plays out.[/quote']

I don'tknow how easy it was, but we've enjoyed ourselves thus far. Looking forward to the first session and going over the characters better.

  9. Re: Wolves Lair

Hey Savinien' date=' I've been thinking about the problem of getting Rajellan into the game and I have another character you can look at . A Vaerdi warrior named Thungar .[/quote']

I don't think Rajellan will be any problem. Either way is fine. Go ahead and send the Vaerdi and let me know which you prefer.

  10. Re: Wolves Lair

So far I have four characters... so four players as Savinien indicated.

    Thanks Mayapuppies... That helps.

I will have completed characters to you tonight for approval Savinien. Once you give me the go ahead, I will create the Maptools token to go with the characters. Each token can take up to an hour to setup.

Have you sent the PCs? I haven't seen them and don't have anything in my email.

  11. Re: Wolves Lair

I fear I was not clear. I did not mean that 'I' should create a game 'instead' of Savinien. I meant simply that Savinien would GM this game, and I would create a completely different game on my own that anyone would be free to join, including Savinien if he wished. I also meant to say, but have appeared only to have 'implied', that I would not be a player in Savinien's game because I likely would cause him more stress than it was worth to him. We appear to have very different playstyles, almost diametrically opposite in fact.

Savinien is not wrong, we are just different, and I have no ill feelings. I hope he is ok with me as well.

No we are good, Man. Don't worry about that.

The game sounds cool to me. I played in something similar with HGF's own Supersquirrel. I would be interested in playing but it depends on scheduling.

  12. Re: Wolves Lair

After some discussion with Panpiper, I've realized irreconcilable play styles. The game that I would like to run encapsulates a different vision than the one he would like to play in. As I said up front, my vision of Kamarathin is a gritty, "realistic", low-fantasy setting. I would rather tell the story of characters 'working through their life to become heroes' as opposed to telling stories of characters that are already some of the best combatants in the Kingdom.

That does mean that other NPCs may be more capable combatants. There will also be multitudes that are lessor combatants. I'm probably 60/40 interaction/combat in the games I run.

It may be that you have too many beginning points? I don't know. But, I've realized I won't be able to run a game Panpiper plays in. It would be frustrating and painful. If you'd still like me to GM Kam (without PP) or play, I'm up for it. I don't want a me vs. him situation. I'll gladly step down as GM or even the group. It is supposed to be fun and thus far it hasn't been. So, I'd like to get back to the fun part.

  13. Re: Wolves Lair

This thread is for our newly minted Hero Group. I am starting this thread here so that we can discuss game specific things, post files, character bios, games logs and what not.

We appear to have a total group of seven people. Four of which are players and three of which are player/GMs. They are...

    Starwolf (my self)... Player/GM

    Solron ... Player

    Terrie ... Player

    Maccabe ... Possible Player/GM

    PanPiper ... Possible Player

    Styphon ... Possible Player

    Savinien ... Player/GM

It looks as if Savinien will be our initial GM kicking things off with a campaign in the Fantasy World of Kamarathin.

We will be holding a Get to know each other chat and initial character creation session tomorrow night on the Maptools Server under the name of the WolvesLair. It will begin at 7 pm Moutian Standard Time. I hope to see everyone there. I am excited to get started.

I may ask a buddy of mine (lezentauw here at HGF) to join us as a co-gm if y'all don't mind.

  14. Re: Wolves Lair

I will be using the 180 templates written up by mayapuppies. It will be 6E. I would like it to eventually be a sort of playtest and use as much of KoT as written, so canon according to mayapuppies.

In 6E, SLong changed the way he talks about points. The 180 pt PC with 60 pts in complications is not equivalent to a 240 pt character. The complications are figured into the total.

I would also like to stay at least close to builds and packages as written in KoT. The reasons are self-evident IMO.

Is it possible to have a 'Writ of Carriage' perk for instance, without taking a Lordling or Secular Knight package deal?

How would someone other than a Lordling or Secular Knight get the 'Writ of Carriage'? If you can satisfactorily convince me of something I will allow some wiggle room.

Did anyone specify if they'd like to try Dark Waters first, or would you want to wade right into Gobryn Duchy?

  15. I ran the first session of a new campaign in my Adventure in Aerth setting. This was a ftf game and was a ton of fun. I wasn't sure how many players would show, but I was sure it would be either two or three so I made four characters. The premise of the campaign currently is following the adventures of a Pirate/Privateer Captain Jeralld Risky.

The four possible player characters are lessor members of the crew, able seamen if you will:

Graff - Half Utan/half Wudatan. A gentle giant and borne to the Cutpurse. Lacking the heart for axework, much to the ire of Captain Risky, Graff has no interest in fighting nor axework. His natural inclination seems closer to linguist and assisting Dame Lyssa Olsen in the chirgeoning aboard ship.

Zahm the Glib - A relatively new member of the crew, Zahm is a swashbuckler. He left his last position with Captain Durham as he and his men proved too bloodthirsty and Zahm would prefer talking wives from their husbands as opposed to murder and rape.

Druballah - A Maruudian Hunter pressed into the Crew while landbound in Westlake. For the past few years, his position on the Cutpurse very well may have been against his will. But, a recent sea battle and a loss of half the crew required his freedom and assistance.

Rahb Gunner - A relatively famous gunsmith from Ossenhaven. Captain Risky pressed him into work also. Forcing the artisan to work off his debt from being 'rescued' from a raid on a Southlake vessel.

The two players chose Zahm and Druballah and saw the Cutpurse limping into Ravensdurn Bay for repairs. Captain Risky and the majority of the crew went landside for supplies after darkness ended the repairs. Zahm was given the helm and a special word to keep an eye on the Maruudian. The two and Graff took up a conversation forcastle concerning the strange new 'star' in the night sky and what it might portent.

They were interrupted by a night inspection of the cargo by the Harbormaster, but quickly sniffed out a boarding by another Privateer, Mrakus Durham. During the ensuing fight across the deck Zahm was struck down. Assitance from the pilot, Pappy and Rahb Gunner the pirates were killed or run off.

This was a 6th Edition game and felt seamless to the players. I built the characters and mechanics haven't changed enough for either of them to notice.
