  1. Re: Jumping mouth! humm.... It does other damage besides biting peoples heads off. I guess it tries to snag off limbs or wads of flesh... Just curious... how does one actually bite the head off? As you say: placed shot? but them what % damage needs to hit that location? What should I do for base DCV?
  2. I have in mind a critter which is basically a 4 limbed bipedal torso, with a large single eye and basket ball sized mouth embedded in its torso. It has no head of its own. It has a jump of about 8/16 inches. 10-15 str. Its tactics are to Jump to its prey from behind, quickly get its spiny teethed mouth over its victims head and BITES IT OFF! It succeeds doing so 50% of the time against a 4 or 5 dcv its about man sized. Can some one come up with the stats for that? I cant seem to get its powers down.
  3. Re: Damage from fire and Enchanting a sword? the enchant weapon spell, should only last a minimum of a minute or so, at least the length of the combat
  4. 2 questions: how does armor protect from open fire. it seems that if an armored character has to go thru a hex filled with 1d6k fire magical or not, with any armor over 3pts will probably take no damage from the fire. Is this how you see it? How can I make fire more interesting a difficulty? Also, a player wants a spell that enchants a sword with some elemental damage to boost the damage against enemies. How Do I build that?
  5. Re: Colonial Gothic? this could easily lend itself to a translation to savage world solomon kane.
  6. Re: Seeking Existing FH Website: Dragon races/martial... I'm worried that our fantasy hero campaign sites are starting to dwindle. The fantasy hero treasure trove site lists campaigns at the bottom, where at least half are now dead links. Please post your links to FH sites if you can.
  7. Re: Seeking Existing FH Website: Dragon races/martial... I answered my own question... i finally located this incredibly interesting campaign. Its got dragon knights and all sorts of cool stuff. the web page is: http://members.tripod.com/~hawk_wind/homepage.html The Land of Trinalia I don't know how i found it originally but its lots of fun.
  8. Not to long ago, I found an FH website with a detailed world of dragon type races. Each race had its own martial styles. It looked like a lot of fun to run and play in. It wasn't a killer shrike site, It was some one else. Does any one have this link?
  9. Re: Im in san fran @ java one. any gaming?? oh!!! darn darn. the store closed. oh well.
  10. Im in san fran for the rest of the week till sunday morning. any gaming going on here? or game stores?
  11. Re: Magic Items go here!! Yes, ive spent many hours trying to put your random treasure generator into a java program. I wanted to talk to you about fixing your lists. As it stands certain treasures occur too frequently. more on that another time.... If any one is curious, CTaylor has some great GREAT stuff on his downloads. His monster manuals are the best ive seen for Fantasy hero.
  12. Gaming Summary. We had travelled to Bridgmar to look for Ar'Dragor, who was evidently in the pay of Baron Hess (potential bad guy npc) and was doing something for "the organization" that we are tracking. We had previously been in Bridgemar and dealt with the demon that was residing within the young girl at the Inn. The first thing we noticed is that in the last 5 years, the town has gotten much larger. Upon entering the town, we inquired where the Captain of the guard was. He mentioned that he was in the Inn drinking. Kaiden was recognized and the guard mentioned that the young girl who was possessed by the demon still talked about Kaiden(pc: ultra TANK plate armor with 11pd) and would be happy to see him. Acrev (Mickey's character, martial artist/hedge healer) went into a large temple. Kaiden had asked him to subtly drop hints that we were looking for Ar'Dragor (Kaiden was under the mistaken impression that Ar'Dragor would be in the local guard). When Acrev went in, he was greeted warmly, but after he dropped Ar'Dragor's name, he was quickly ushered out. While the majority of us went to the Inn to find the Captain, Lothar(pc mage) went to another inn, to check into something or other. All I know is that he came back with a dog with the human face, but that story is later. Anyways... we entered the Inn and we saw the Captain. We recognized him from 5 years ago. The young woman who we rescued was also there and had grown up to be an "11" (e.g very hot). After exchanging pleasantries with her. We sat down to speak with the Captain about the stuff going on in town. We told him that we were looking for Ar'Dragor and a little of why. He explained that Ar'Dragor was also wanted in town in connection with strange things happening in the forest to the south. Strange mercenaries as well as weird abominations have been appearing. Creatures that have been twisted by some strange magic have been appearing. Similar stories had been told of old magics that the Misophians allegedly used during the old wars to create part human part animal soldiers. We came to the conclusion that Ar'Dragor is involved in this. We told the captain that we would take care of this for him. On the way out the door, i noticed a inky black ...hold appear in the air and out dropped a bunny, but with the throat of a frog as well as a long corkscrew tongue. I quickly dispatched it. I asked Acrev to look at it, but he didn't know what was up. Shortly thereafter, Lothar showed up with a dog w/ a human face. The dog was shortly killed, but i think Alleganshe(pc Dragon man in human illusion) ate it. Lothar used the glove that we found (the one that tells you something about the owner of an object) he touched the dog/human and saw an image of a man looking into a crystal ball. He also found out that the guys was one of the Gre' (prounounced gray) brothers that we have been tracking. He is probably the Gre' brother who we know is near Parthersville. Unfortunately the demon that powers the glove required a blood sacrifice and when Lother removed his hand, his index finger was missing. We traveled south through the forest near to the town of Parthersville. We didn't go into the town because we were concerned that since the problems were so near the town, that it may be overrun. We stayed in the forest. During the mid watch, Kaiden was shot with 2 arrows, however, he yelled to alert everyone and charged into the forest at the archers. We were attacked by 3 sword wielding people. Lothar quickly dispatched his attacker, and Acrev quickly knocked out his with Lothar's spell assistance. Kaiden's attacker ran and after Lothar's spell injured him, Kaiden road him down and killed him. All the attackers were also magically altered. They all had a hand coming out of their check with a mouth and an Eye in the middle. We quickly killed them. After we were getting read to leave, several people entered our camp and stated that they were guards from Parthersville.
  13. Re: Magic Items go here!! there are funny symbols imbedded. I realize that they probably mean something, but I am trying to do a global replace, and I dont know what should i replace those symbols with? a slash? a hyphen? Thanks in advance.
  14. Re: Sharing my notes OIL OF VITRIOL, Watson! me thinks me smell a fan... I saw oil of vitriol first mentioned in a BBC episode of Sherlock holmes. Just brought smile to my face. thanks
  15. Re: TA: Turkarian age campaign level I told my players there is no way to trip with out buying a martial maneuver, they got mad at me because any one can do a trip in dnd, whether or not they are successful at it is another question. there has to be another way. does the phrase 'leg sweep' indicate you are sweeping the legs out from some one, or does it indicate you are using your leg to sweep down the intended victim?
  16. characters are around 150 pt level to start. the tank wears 8pt plate into battle. He has an 11 pd on top of that. Is that excessive? can turkarian mages where armor while casting? if they can, he currently has 4pt armor. He wants to up to chain armor. He has a 9 point shield spell he can throw up ontop of that. I told the players they incur a dex/dcv penalty depending on what armor values they have. We are using hit location in the game. I usually ignore stun to in combats against mooks to speed up combat. Higher lvl opponents use their stun. one more question: the mage has a 20 pt Telekenetic hand spell. he wants to grab, and trip. Grab is a basic maneuver. How do you do a Trip in heroes? thoughts? opinions?
  17. Re: increasing bow damage with OCV levels? so the final word is two 3pt levels raise a +1 dc in melee weapon and two 5pt levels to raise +1 dc damage with a ranged weapon
  18. Re: increasing bow damage with OCV levels? what about 3pt levels for melee for a specific sword? can you add to damage with those?
  19. I know in a fantasy game for melee damage, for every 2 ocv levels you would apply to hit, you can instead use those level to increase damage by one DC. Can you do the same thing with bow ocv levels?
  20. Re: Change the focus from KO to Killing First off, I had this same question for the board that you are posing. Ive been running the game with the above suggestions and that seems to work. Ive also added a 'Mook' factor, that is, some baddies can only stand up to one or 2 hits. if the body/stun is significantly low vs armor, ignore it. But count it as a hit. Some critters cant take more than 2 hits that way. Also, make sure you use Hitlocations. It cuts down on the book keeping, and makes things go faster. And thank you all for re-answering
  21. One of my players sent me this... "Another good defense against arrows is a shield. Shields were used by archers and varied from the small Arabic round shield on the bow arm to the large Assyrian wicker shields carried by a shield bearer or the pavise of the crossbowman. The archer's arm shield is an excellent defense. You can use it to actively block arrows, and sometimes it will manage to block arrows you did not see. But in light battles(they are not allowed in mixed battles) it is limited to fifteen inches in diameter and must be marked with the light fighters device, so as not to be mistaken for a heavy's shield. Basically a 15" round shiled on bow arm? what do you think?" I think it sounds like a +1 dcv shield, requiring sheild skill, while firing with bow. opinions?
  22. Last week when i ran my game, players entered a conflict area/hallway that was 2 hexes wide and 10 hexes long. They were caught unaware *Suprise* at an archway. The players where deadlocked at archway toe to toe. One of the players insisted he could push his way into the crowded hallway, forward into 2 inhabited hexes, passing the first 4 enemies, and start attacking some one from there. I told him this would've resulted in passing thru hexes inhabited by the enemy, and that he must stop at the first inhabited hex. Can a player waltz thru enemy inhabited hexes? Whats the mechanic for that?
