  1. Re: Most common super hero jobs

If we talk about source materials, I will list what I remember from DC and Marvel:

    1. Reporter - Superman, Spider-man (photographer), The Question.
    2. Independently Wealthy - Batman, Green Arrow, Iron Man
    3. Scientist - Flash (Barry Allen and Jay Garick
    4. Police Officer - Specter, Plastic Man, Martian Manhunter
    5. Engineer - Green Lantern (Alan Scott and John Stewrd
    6. Lawyer - DareDevil, Green Lantern (Guy Gardner)
    7. Military Officer - Green Lantern (Hal Jorden), Captain Atom, Captain America
    8. Artist - Green Lantern/Ion (Kyle ??), Sentry.
    9. Professional Hero - Booster Gold,
    10. Medical Doctor - Dr. Midnight, Dr. Strange, Thor

This is far from a scientific 'survey' of the characters 'Jobs'

Other Positions held in the Comic books include National Ruler (Namor and the Earth One Aquaman, GeoForce).

Test Pilot - Originally Hal Jordan and Ben Grim in the 616 universe.

Student - Spider-man (for a time), Firestorm (other half whos name escapes me)

That is all I could think of at this time.

Okay enough from the peanut gallery.

  2. Re: Adonis and his ladies (New Mastermind and henchwomen)

Adonis needs one henchwoman that's more than she seems. She's just as manipulative as he is and is playing for for a sucker. Not nessecarily for a heroic purpose' date=' maybe she's a Viper mole trying to attain his genetic augmentation tech or something similar but she's not the lackey she appears to be.[/quote']

Odd you mention that, when I read the name 'Sugar Wiseman' in the original description by Hermit of Adonis' facility, I thought of someone who would be blackmailed by Doctor D to get him any results he has on regeneration.

  3. Re: Adonis and his ladies (New Mastermind and henchwomen)

Did you mean MESSENGER? Because her doing massage makes me think "friction burn".

Needs more history and other fluff info. Shouldn't these also be built on 350 or less like Warlord's droogs?

Finally, what does 45 points of rapid senses do for her exactly?

Yes I meant Messenger. (Darn Spell checker not giving me what I Meant).

No caps where mentioned so I used the GM has infinite points group. I was fitting powers to my concept and not worrying about the point caps. I wanted to make her mysterious and vague. I also tend to be terse in my writing style.

As far the rapid senses go, I envision her as being able to notice events normally too quick for normal human perception. Additional meanings will be left up to you.

  4. Re: Adonis and his ladies (New Mastermind and henchwomen)

Will, since others are posting 'Henchwomen' I will post the fleshed out version of the one I Felt missing from hermits list of Girls that the inner adolescent wanted to see on the list.

  5. Re: reverse vulnerability

A Really Minor Quibble, should not your custom limitation read "Only to determine affect of Negative Adjustments and Transforms" ???

Warlock's Adjustment Curse: Drain Power Defense 1d6, Delayed Return Rate (points return at the rate of 5 per Month; +2) (30 Active Points); 1 Recoverable Charge which Recovers every 1 Month (-2 1/4), Only to determine affect of Transforms (-2), Spell (-1/2), Extra Time (Full Phase, -1/2), Incantations (-1/4), Gestures (-1/4) (6 Real Cost).

An example for its use would look like...

Character A gets hit with Warlock's Adjustment Curse. He has 0 Power Defense. The Warlock roles a 4 on his 1d6 Power Defense Drain. Character A now has -4 Power Defense.

Character A is later hit with a Transfer attack, Tranfering his STUN to a Necromancer's STUN. The Necromancer roles his 1d6 Transfer damage, and roles a 6. However, as Characecter A has a -4 Power Defense, his character actually loses 10 STUN, not the 6 that was rolled. And just to complete the effect, I'd probably rule that the Necromances gets the whole 10 STUN, since "the curse" is supposed to strengthen his attack.

  6. Re: Favorite Sci-Fi Weapon

Nobody's mentioned the Movellan nova device from the Doctor Who story The Day of The Daleks.I always thought a man-portable device that could set a planetary atmosphere on fire would be SOMEBODYS favourite weapon.

And the Hand of Omega is something to be sneezed at???

  7. Re: Superheroes, Power and Responsbility

A soldier, however, needs to dehumanize the enemy in order to kill him.

    Why?

Off Topic but I had to answer:

The one word is empathy. If you think of your enemy just as human as you then you are less likely to pull the trigger to kill them. That is why the US training and propaganda films from WWII show Japanese as buck tooth, slant eyed savages and Germans as butchering 'Huns', it makes them less then human, less like my neighbor and friends, so I would think of them as demons and/or animals that needed to be put down.

    ON TOPIC:

But the more I think of it this is part of the answer to the why heroes do not change the world... We would lose an empathic connection to them. If there world does not have a connection we can relate to on the simplest terms (Comics were originally a 'child's' media) then we might lose that empathic connection.

    (I think too much) :ugly:

  8. Re: Group invisibility?

I'm trying to model a kind of "invisibility bubble" i.e. the character and those in his immediate vicinity are invisible. If someone leaves that vicinity they become visible, and if they return they become invisible again. Everyone inside the bubble can see everyone else inside bubble.

I've tried invisibility usable as an attack, extra targets, simultaneous use, linked with a special "Sense other folks in the invisibility bubble" also usable as an attack.

    Any thoughts?

    Area of Effect Selective eg:

Invisibility to Sight Group , No Fringe, Usable By Other (+1/4), Personal Immunity (+1/4), Area Of Effect (5" Radius; +1), Selective (+1/4) (82 Active Points)

should do it (Stricly speaking 'Personal Immunity' may require some hand wavium to work for all 'selected') This is not Cheap.

Or a more legal way to do it may be:

(Total: 98 Active Cost, 90 Real Cost) Invisibility to Sight Group , No Fringe, Usable By Other (+1/4), Area Of Effect (8" Radius; +1 1/4), Selective (+1/4) (82 Active Points) (Real Cost: 82) plus Detect Invisible A Class Of Things 11- (Sight Group), Usable By Other (+1/4), Area Of Effect (8" Radius; +1 3/4), Selective (+1/4) (16 Active Points); Sees Only Things Made Invisible by this spell (-1/2), Linked (Invisibility; -1/2) (Real Cost: 8)

Oh to make the above move with the group you need "Moble" adder as well +1

  9. Re: Is "Hollywood-style" decompression accurate?

So the the exposive decompression scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey is more accurate then from Aliens?

(IF you never saw the film Dave Bowman is forced to do a space walk with out a helment to get back into the main ship. He blows the hatch on his repair capsle and propells himself with explosive decopress into the Discovery's Airlock)

  10. Re: CHAR: The Flash

The version of the character up the page is horribly overbuilt.

The Danger Sense, in particular, is unbalancing.

A version of the Flash based on either Showcase #4, or the first issue of Wally's series, would be much more manageable. A guy with boomerangs would definitely be able to present a challenge.

Against this monster: no chance, short of a Green Arrow-style Atomic Warhead Boomerang.

Isn't the present Captain Boomerang (The son of the original ) a semi speedster meta human??

  11. Re: Shape Shift Query

    -1/2 according to Hero Designer

Here is an example I created in it:

Shape Shift (Sight Group, limited group of shapes), Costs END Only To Change Shape (+1/4) (25 Active Points); Affects Body Only (-1/2), Limited Effect (Only to change skin colors/patterns of colors; -1/4)

  12. Re: Shape Shift Query

Does Shape Shift (to Sight and Touch, presumably) also allow you to change outer garments?

    The short answer is yes.

In fact there is a limitation for shape shift in the 5RE that is 'BODY ONLY'. No clothing can be changed if you take this limitation (to simulate the John Carpenter's The Thing I assume) Most Silver and Bronze age Comic book shape shifters don't seem to have issues with clothing and such. For that matter most TV shape shifters don't either (Mainly monsters from Star Trek, and broadcast standard won't be violated, so I doubt they are good examples)

  13. Re: Alternatives to Megascale for movement

So why not differentiate between combat and noncombat feats? I don't think that Non-Combat Movement is the odd man out here, but rather NCM is the only element that's actually done right.

So stick this idea in your pipe and smoke it. Share the resultant hallucination. :dyn

Well looking at this and the original quote, to some extent there are NC rules for skills and rules for bracing and careful targeting with extra time (moving up the time chart). Out of combat you get advantages to hit and to do things you would not get in combat. You take extra time you get bonus to do tasks.

So to take out a building with your energy blast (SFX dependent) would require demolitions rolls and powerskill rolls and careful targeting of structural elements and extra time, much extra time. Just like imploding a building takes weeks of work before the you get to see a neat building shattering KABOOM, you would need and should need much time to get a similar affect with EB or super strength out of combat.

Just my random thoughts on this subject.

  14. Re: Best Mystic comic/character ever?

Thanks for the info. And -- BD is a devout Catholic? Bet he makes an impression when he walks into his church.

Sheesh, the guy even had a kid sidekick -- Kid Devil? Now that is corny. And then he (KD) gets turned into some angst-riddled hellbeast who is doomed regardless of what he does. At least Robin and Speedy never sold their souls to Satan!

Worst for Dan, He starts smoking, litterally burns alive, when he walks onto holy ground. And he still goes to services (talk about pentence).

  15. Re: CHAR: Big Barda

I must warn you: I ain't touching the motherbox. That's not statable.

    ...and getchermind outta the gutter.

The Mother Box is easy... Compared to the Mobius Chair.

Speaking of the Mobius Chair and boom tubes, I remember a comic where Metron uses a boom tube to study some event in time. But it required special knowledge to pull off (Metron's area I do believe)

  16. Re: I Need A Gadget

The things that come mind is a set of Brass Knuckles that can throw damage, increase damage, allow for some TK tricks and flight. (either some weird mystic or chi focus are in the darn things).

Or the ever over used staff, rod or billy club are the other things I thought of but they are too obvious I think.

  17. Re: Super Metals

    Two DC Silverage metels:

Supermanium - forged by Superman and has the unique property of being indestructable in yellow sun light and stores energy.

Amazonium - The metal that Wonder Woman plane and bracers are made with during the silver age.

  18. Re: Howto: A Body Of Force Fields?

Some Ideas are found in theTangent comics version of the Flash. A young woman who is a 'living hologram'. She is pure energy and can shape shift (reforming her personal energy). She can also project 'solid' holograms (images with a touch component and force wall, maybe summon if the object actually functions.) (Some more information here: http://www.hyperborea.org/flash/tangent.html

Also some of ERG/Wildfire from the Legion of Superheroes come to mind - Growth, Shrinking and Desolid.

Another odd idea is the ablilty to disrupt normal matter (causing the four natural forces holding matter together to dissolve) But that is an expensive killing attack.
