  1. Re: Classing Naming: (this) and (that) Silly:- Copyright & Trademark Whenever a PC comes up with a concept of say, a dark avenger crimefighter called gnatman copyright and trademark would appear and slap some serious legal redtape and lawsuits on the offending player character. Of course Copyright would have the C in the circle and Trademark would have the Tm emblazoned across his chest Serious:- Stars & Stripes Patriotic crime fighting duo (i know DC had a monthly title called this but it was my idea years ago Dagnamit!)
  2. Lets suspend belief for a momnet and instead of stan lee creating the xmen for a new comic book lets say that the original xmen were created for a role playing game. you can just picture it... GM: "Ok gang, you had time to come up with your characters and names so lets have a quick once around the table, Scott?" Scott: "Yeah ok, my Guy can shoot optic beams from his eyes, he cant control them so i gave him a focus limitation in the form of a visor, since he looks like he only has one eye i called him cyclops" Jean: "Cool, well, seeing as i'm the only girl here i called my character Marvel Girl, she's a low level telepath and has Telekinetic powers" Bobby: "I like it, My Guy is called Iceman, he can turn himself into a human snowman and fire snowballs and freeze him enemies" GM: "Maybe he should be called snowman then" Bobby: "Ah well you see he's still learning to master the transformation, so snow is as good as he can manage just now, as i gain more experience i'll refine the transformation" Gm: "Ah, some foresight into your characters development, nice, What about you Hank?" Hank: "Well, my guys the brains of the team, he's a scientist trapped in a irregular body, he's acrobatic and stronger than the average joe, I call him the beast" Gm: "Well that just leaves you Warren, Tell us about your guy" Warren:"Umm, My guy can fly" Gm: "Uh huh, go on" Warren: "No thats it, he can fly, he's got wings, i call him angel" Gm: "....right" What i'm saying is, you wouldn't would you, if you were creating a new team of superheroes you would have him do something else other than just fly, and give him restrainable flight at that. So Angel Gets my vote as the worst character concept for a playable game character ever
  3. Re: What was you most powerful Attack vs. Supervillian??? I seem to have foggy memories of a character of mine having some kind of focus attack, that is, not an attack in the form of a gun or the like, no it was some kind of weird thing my old gm would come up with. Anyway, from what i can remember the character ( i think he was called free wheelin franklin which will give you some insight into what we were smoking back then and possibly why i dont recall this with crystal clear clarity) activated the focus attack, it basically drained active points form every other power and stat into one almighty make or break attack against the campaign master villain I think it went something like this Rick (gm): "Ok Stevie, your all charged up, whats your move?" Me: "Right, i'll perfom a move through" Rick: "Alrighty just dont miss" Me [roll of dice, expectant look at Gm] Rick: "Sorry Mate....on the plus side you did level a mountain!" Me: "Aww Shi.." So who knows what the actual dice were, i altered the landscape!
  4. Re: Metric HERO And out of the corner of myminds eye i see JMcl circing my upcoming Champions game with a whole bunch of rules variants, not sure i like the idea of being your Guinee Pig! Only Joking, Well our collective game will be kicking off soon and I'm sure JMcL will let you know how the effect worked in practice. Right now however, Metric Hexes aren't a big concern of mine, speeding up combat is, working within a restricted timeframe ie an evening's worth of play one combat can easily eat up a lot more than its fair share of time. I dont want to high jack JMcL's thread so if theres a link somebody can direct me too i'll look at that more closely. Cheers
  5. Re: Poll: The Best Writer In Comics Im Sorry Bud, I never found speedball or Cable Entertaining or Interesting. Its been about ten years since Cable arrived on the seen all during that terrible extinction agenda story arc and i am still unuawre as to what exactly it is that Cable does, apart from have a glowing eye and look like a bad Motherhubbard. Speed ball, he just a failed attempt at trying to recreate an era of comics long since passed. My opinion of course, and i know it takes al sorts so thats why i know people will probably disagree with me when i say.... Geoff Johns He of The Flash, Teen Titan's, the new green lantern story, recently a run on the avengers Fame. There are of course so many writers up there, neil gaiman, Judd Winnick, Peter david, Jeph Loeb but right now, in comics i don't think anyone is as skilled as Johns for crafting and weaving intricate stories.
  6. Re: Who was the LAMEST? The Lamest character to get his own title? wow theres just so many of them, oddly enough most coming from Marvels stable. There was Speed Ball, Nth Man the ultimate ninja, Night thrasher, the Hulk form the '70's "HULK SMASH GRRRR"....yawn ...snore ...ZZZZZZ and Nite Cat ( i think) She was spectacularly awful, it was a hybrid between a real life pop star and a comic book heroine. The was even a photo of the girl inside done up in her 'Superhero' outfit (Read, big 80's hair, bandanna and Leather corset affair) If i had to vote, i'd vote for her, all the while i owned that book i couldn't help thinking "Why? oh my god Why Stan?, Why would you put your name to this" I cant think of any one D.C. Character that sticks out right now, but thats mainly because the D.C. titles i read are written by Geoff Johns, and therefore excellent. Image/Wildstorm, Well In My Opinion, the only character that came out of that whole ego trip for artists was the Grifter, everyone else, Poo.
