  1. Re: Crossovers.... I love the idea. Even if I don't do actual cross-overs all the time I try to drop continuity points and events that are happening elsewhere. Usually this means name-dropping. My Dawnstars game recently drew together characters/players from three games which was great fun, but half-way through I changed 'universes' and had to patch up a lot of continuity holes. I think it all worked out well in the end. Some characters who started had to disappear by the end though. One died. Several got lost in the timestream... stuff like that. The end result is that I now have ten characters in my Dawnstars team. The reason I did the cross-over was because one campaign that I was in (Majestic in the GGU) folded and I enjoyed the characters. So I invited them to the Dawnstars. Majestic was based in the UK and Dawnstars in Italy so that made sense. The third game was one that I had run in the past (New Men) but had folded because I just couldn't get the right feel for it. I invited one of those players across too. Anyway, I think the short answer is that they are great fun but hard work. I think I started with four interested players from Majestic but ended up with two (who came across to Uberworld and are still active in the Dawnstars game as full members). It's always good to merge character histories and this is done best with characters coming from different backgrounds/games. With ten players I'm thinking of splitting the team into two smaller teams. One of my players summed up the good points about this in an email this weekend: Thanks Darren.
  2. #4 New Wave (ola Nuevo) The first team in the project landed in the secluded land of Andorra. I've changed the history of the country in classic comic book tradition, and come up with a group of four teenagers who have banded together with the goal of showing up or humiliating their parents who have sent them to boarding school. The team page can be read here. The team is made up of: Strata Character Sheet Sorceress Character Sheet Veronica Character Sheet Beezle Bob Character Sheet Note: My new scanner seems to be picking up the white paper as a shaded white. Frustrating! I'll try and fix the problem but in the meantime you'll have to endure the quality of the scan as it is.
  3. Re: The Long Distance Relationship: Playing Champions Through The Post I haven't actually played face-to-face in over a decade, so I'm not really trying to replace anyone (just memories!). I'm doing a lot of email games, and the logical side of my brain agrees with you that snail mail would be a killer. I can imagine one scene could take years! Great idea for collaborative writing though. I'll keep this idea on the shelf I think!
  4. Updates - Mugahid and Dove I've updated the characters for Mugahid and Dove thanks to feedback received on these boards. The links should work, but let me know if they don't. Mugahid now has a split personality so his 'human' mind is guilt-ridden and his 'shadow' mind loves destruction. PCs should be able to talk him into pushing his human side over the shadow one if they work out his weakness. No game mechanics there (except OIHID) but it is very comic book, if you know what I mean. And Dove has got herself 'feather darts' to throw at bad guys while staying out of sight, and some body armour. She had to sell off her martial arts though. And her main power is to change into a dove and fly away REALLY FAST! (Desolidification - thanks for that idea!)
  5. Re: Around the World With A New Character Each Week Thanks! I've written up the team page for the Andorran vigilante-kids. You can look at it here and it has a bit about the change to history. There will be more in Strata's background. Basically there has been two Crown Princes since Andorra became independent after WWII. The first one was a mutant who could change the landscape and the second one (current Crown Prince) could create stone giants and kind of became a villain for a while (got to love diplomatic immunity). The prince in the team is actually the third son so he won't inherit the throne unless his older brothers have accidents. He isn't planning anything in that department yet, but who knows?
  6. Re: Around the World With A New Character Each Week I've updated her character sheet. I took out the Enraged (because that was seriously going to get her killed!) and replaced it with a Watched by the rival family who is helping her out. I also gave her some 'feather darts' and armour while taking away her martial arts. She should be okay now - especially for a 150 point character from the mid 1980s.

  8. I was wondering if anyone actually games via the postal service. Maybe your gaming group got separated... people change, move away. Has anyone continued their special relationship even when distance became an issue and didn't want to play via email? I'm asking because I can see some interesting elements in sending packages/moves rather than face to face and email. These are: Everyone likes to get something in the letter box, right? For a small group (2 players, 1 GM) it would work rather well. Turns would be monthly, probably, and be larger than your normal pbem post. The emphasis would have to be on detail and character development rather than basic gaming / dice rolls. There would be the opportunity to include handouts and other physical items / props. The pace would be nice. Could lead into extended fiction writing, maybe dispensing with the GM. There's the down side too, I'd bet. Does anyone have experience in this? I'm kind of keen to have a go at it. I'm in Australia, too, so that brings another set of quirks to the game. International postal service. Yay!
  9. Re: WWYCD: The Breakup Depends on the power level of the jilted lover. If it's low-level stuff like 'Bug Man' or 'Hoppy The Bush Kangaroo Kid' then it'd be simple. If it's Galactus-level, then there might be problems. Tribe would probably hit on the woman, hook up with her and then defend her honour (in any order). He's used to being beaten up on, but having the ability to generate duplicates he can take the hits. He'd also probably seek out the jilted lover and try to talk him around, maybe even do a Benvolio thing and suggest he look elsewhere for affection. Heck, Tribe might even set up a blind date between the jilted lover and one of his team mates. If it was Galactus-level, Tribe would consider doing the same thing but soon realise that it was pointless. He'd convince the girl to get back with the cosmic superhero guy for everyone's sakes.
  10. Re: Class of the Titans Neil/Narcissus does stand around a look cool, you're right. In fact, isn't that how he was introduced at the start? He was a model at a photo shoot and looking in the mirror a lot. I like the supporting cast too, like Hermes. And there was the Keeper of Tarturus, I think, who was pretty cool. She had a scorpion strapped to her back which she could take off and sick on to the good guys. I thought of incorporating that idea into a Champions character. Do you remember her name? It was like Kel or something.
  11. Re: Class of the Titans And Australia. I've watched it a few times and it's really good. A group of kids inherit the powers of Ancient Greek Heroes (and Gods). My kids love it too and have their favourites. Have to admit that Narcissus/Neil is a bit of a waste of space though.

  14. #3 SATURNE (Algeria) The Algerian Powered Armour. I came up with a guardian for a corporation because the alignment rolled up as Neutral, so this character doesn't go out and fight crime. She waits until crime comes to her territory. I figure there are opportunities for her to assist PC heroes or to get in their way. Character Sheet (HTM) Hero Designer File (HDC) Dice Rolls The Blogsite is This Mutant Life Next up is a team from Andorra... great news. And the bad news? The most powerful member is built on 250 points. Can anyone say "Teen Champions"?

  16. #2 DOVE (Albania) The second was a very low powered vigilante from the Bronze Age (circa 1983). She was also a metamoprh according to the roll so I gave her the ability to transform into a dove. She's more of a detective, sneaky kind of vigilante rather than a confrontational one - especially considering her defences. 17. #1 MUGAHID (Afghanistan) The first character was Mugahid, an energy blaster in the tradition of Cloak and the Shroud. Character Sheet (HTM) Hero Designer File (HDC) Dice Rolls The Blogsite is This Mutant Life
  18. I've started a blog because everyone else seems to have one, but I didn't really feel like I had much to contribute on a philosophical, current issues platform. So I was looking at my atlas and wondering about all those poor little heroes and villains in far away places who never get to see the light of day. And I had an idea (which has probably been done before, but what the hey!). I'll set up a blog where I will post a character from each of the 193 countries in the back of my atlas - one character a week. I felt pretty good. And then my son was throwing dice around - the D6s, the D20s... it was a great game of catapults and the knights were going everywhere... anyway, I digress! I saw the dice and thought back to my tabletop gaming days which were long, long ago. And I thought I might as well have fun with the project and bring in some dice rolling. So I came up with eight steps to building a character. Hope this makes sense. The steps are below. The reason I wanted to bring this here was that I'm happy for anyone who feels like taking the characters or pictures, and adapting them for their own campaigns. If you ever needed a character from Albania, well, now I have one. I'd also like feedback on the characters. Room for improvement, etc. Anyway here are the guidelines I'm using: Step One: Pick a country, following the list in my atlas. No cheating, no skipping. Step Two: Roll 1D6 to determine if I'm creating a single character or something else. 1-4 Single Character 5 Organisation 6 Team (roll 1d6+1 for the number of characters involved) Step Three: Roll 1D6 to determine gender. 1-3 Male 4-6 Female Step Four: Roll 1D6 to determine Alignment. 1-2 Hero 3 Vigilante (deliberately breaks the laws) 4 Neutral (or having their own agenda) 5-6 Villain Step Five: Roll 1D20 to determine Archetype. 1-3 Brick 4-6 Energy Projector 7 Gadgeteer 8-10 Martial Artist 11 Mentalist 12-13 Metamorph 14 Mystic 15 Patriot 16 Powered Armour 17 Speedster 18 Weaponmaster 19 Skilled Normal or Mastermind 20 Roll Twice Step Six: Roll 1D6 to determine Character Points. 1 150 points (100 Base + 50 Disadvantages) 2 250 points (150 Base + 100 Disadvantages) 3 350 points (175 Base + 175 Disadvantages 4 350 points (200 points + 150 Disadvantages) 5 450 points (300 points + 150 Disadvantages) 6 600 points (400 points + 200 Disadvantages) Step Seven: Roll 1D6 to determine Experience Points. 1-3 No Experience 4 2D6 XP (2-12XP) 5 4D6 XP (4-24XP) 6 8D6 XP (8-48XP) Step Eight: Roll 1D6 to determine Era. 1-5 Modern Era 6 Other Era (Roll 1D6 Again) 1 Golden Age 2 Silver Age 3 Bronze Age 4 Iron Age 5 Future Age 6 Alternate Earth (Roll Again For Alternate Earth Era) Oh yeah, and then I'll create the picture. I'm not a professional artist, so don't expect miracles, but I can create a decent picture and colour it (my shading sucks, but anyone who knows me can attest to that!). The blogsite is: This Mutant Life So far I have completed a villain from Afghanistan and a Vigilante from (Bronze Age) Albania.

    Wwyd ????

Re: Wwyd ???? With the Duplication in mind, how about just a general duplication (where the duplicates can outlife the original) or genius intellect with the ability to clone yourself, so the original body dies but the superpowered clones survive. Okay, cheating still. I'd have to go with the majority here and turn it down, although maybe I could refer the genie on to some of my friends. Hmm, that might not be such a good idea either.
  20. This is late in coming, but Uberworld has moved to a new site: www.uber-world.com Our new webmaster has created a whole lot of interactive features such as searches for characters based on teams, power level etc. Sorry this is short, I'm in the middle of work, but if I didn't post this now I never would. So check it out and offer any feedback if you have the time. There's currently a call for a campaign set in Detroit. Kind of Dark Champions - it's called Motown Mayhem. Thanks
  21. Re: Suggestions for any campaigns? Go and have a look at the campaigns at Uberworld http://www.uber-world.com/campaigns.htm There are seven games there to look at, including a Galactic Champions game (synthesis of Space Hero and Champions). I'm about to start actually playing a Teen Champions game which is going to be fun. I usually play regular Champions stuff, but going out on a genre limb is really exciting. I say go for it. Dr Who sounds like just the right limb.
  22. Re: Round Robin Style Superhero Writing
  23. A couple of people have started writing collaborative, or Round Robin, fiction at the Uberworld site which has already shown some interesting twists. The idea was for one writer to create a character concept in their heads and write a first chapter. Then another person would take it over for Chapter Two and try and put their own stamp on it without totally rewriting the entire concept. They've been given a two week period to write up a new chapter and we are currently awaiting the third chapter from each of the three series. Sounds complicated? Sounds fun! Check out the fiction so far at Tales From The Uberworld. The storylines we have so far are: Blindside: a blind ninja who is attempting to atone for the sins of his father. Stubborn Vows: a regular Joe (named Jape) who is caught up in a very large conspiracy, although he has no idea about it yet. Avatar: a man who has just become the Uberworld's version of Superman. As the three initial writers have just completed their chapters there will be openings for new writers to take on the characters. Read the page for instructions, but essentially we are after good writers who want to showcase their talent. Depending on interest and how these first three storylines go, we may expand the concept to include more storylines. We think this is a new step for pbeming (at least for us) and it really is fun seeing what other people do when they get total control over a character.
