  1. Re: Combat Armor that requires having a skill.

Are the characters paying points for this armor or is it equipment. I can't quote, don't have my book in front of me, but, if the characters purchase the piece of equipment with points they are automatically skilled in its use. If it is equipment, who cares if it is a -1/2, -1/4, or even -0...as long as it is balanced in the game. When I am building equipment for characters to use (usually in low-powered fantasy games) I often lay out what it abilities are and make sure it is balanced with the game and if something is rather "who cares" about whether or not it needs a skill or not, then I won't assign it a value.

I don't want you to get discouraged or anything and you should always make sure that what you are using is balanced, but something as trivial as needing a skill to use is..well...trivial in this instance and should just be your call as a GM.

If it is equipment, the I agree that is should use TF as just armor, but can also use other skills if you add in radar, radio, etc.

  2. Re: sword of truth hero

I don't remember anything in the series that would warrant the Sword of Truth having a 4D6 HKA as base. 2D6 certainly (is it a broadsword or Bastard sword? I don't think it's greatsword sized) with the ability to reach 4D6k at maximum (if you are adhering to DC maximums). What the Sword does is that it causes the true wielder to burn with a "Righteous Anger" which I would right up as a form of controlled berserk (extra STR, DEX, CON, BOD, SPD, PD, ED and STN) which in the series makes Richard very, very difficult to stop. It also passes the knowledge of the fighting ability of every wielder that passed before Richard directly to him, which makes him one of the finest combatants in the world, even without the "Righteous Anger" Boost. Maybe it provides extra Combat Skill Levels to the wielder? Martial Maneuvers? Talents?

According to the Sword of Truth wiki, the sword could cut through anything The Seeker saw as an enemy (limited Armor Piercing?). When the Seekers "Righteous Anger" turned to Rage, the blade would burn red and The Seeker would grow more powerful (even more STR, CON, STN?) also, when The Seeker's anger was tempered by love and compassion, the blade of the sword would burn white and this is the only time the blade could harm an innocent. It can deflect some magics (especially directed spells like Lighting and such...Missile Deflection!) The sword can also warn the wielder of impending danger subtly (Danger Sense) and it is likely the sword is nigh indestructible.

Also, the Sword eventually turns the wielder into a quivering shadow of their former self through the manipulation of anger. This would be a low Transform vs Ego that happens slowly over time. However the True Seeker (aka Richard Rahl) is immune to this effect (the one who can turn the Sword white) so maybe the effect is removed when the Sword is turned White.

This was true in the books as well. Even Zed was worried for him until he turned the sword white which basically broke the curse.

I probably wouldn't add a Berserk limitation to the weapon as the wielder doesn't ever attack his friends (that I remember' date=' its been a long time though) but I would definitely add an "Enraged".[/quote']

Very good write up NuSoardGraphite. :-)

I have never seen anything, but I am SOOOOO glad you referenced the books instead of the horrible television version. I would love to see write-ups for some of the powers and how someone would build the Seekers sword.

  4. Re: Dr. Who Questions

I think I remember the episode when the Tardis was taken over by an outside entity that The Doctor had stated each incarnation gets its own controls and they are all on the TARDIS somewhere...been a bit since I've seen it though so could be wrong about the episode.

  5. Re: Gothic science fiction settings

I'm inclined to suggest the Necromongers setting from the Riddick films' date=' but I don't know how much campaign info you'd be able to find on it.[/quote']

I've used the Necromongers when the movie first came out, my gaming group loved them. I am sure there is more stuff out on the internet now though.

  6. Re: Paladin's Horse

Which is why I never once saw anybody actually USE the bloody thing in all my years of playing 3e. :)

I have rarely seen the real horse used either because it quickly gets to be something the Paladin needs to protect because it is so weak!

  7. Re: Stunning enemies (and Dragons too!!)

If your players are unwilling to lower their PSL or other items that are causing an unbalancing in your game then as I see it you only have two options...increase everyone else in the world to compensate thereby artificially lowering their abilities or start a new game. I personally choose a new game; you could simply stop and declare the new campaign or "accidentally" kill off too many PC's (like all of them if need be) and be sad about it when they need to make new characters. This will give you a clean slate to put your house rules into place and they can't say anything about it. I am a heavy handed GM when it comes to character creation and experience expenditures and my players are all aware of it. Of course, they are more into the story and role-playing side of the game and not the power-gaming side of the game (as your player's seem to be). Hope this helps!

  8. Re: Alien Wars spaceship construction

one suggestion... see if you can obtain or borrow a copy of Fire' date=' Fusion, And Steel... the first edition for Traveller the New Era. it has a lot of useful stuff in it on vehicle and starship design, and it doesnt just work for traveller, DTRPG has it iirc[/quote']

Fire, Fusion, And Steel...it is a definite good read for any game system. I used to play Traveller a lot, but got tired of the lethality of it. I like more game-style heroic games where the PC's live more. ;)

  9. Re: Alien Wars spaceship construction

...which I thought I'd have this week. I'm taking the week off' date=' but I've gotten calls from work every single day so far, and even spent most of Monday running around doing work stuff.[/quote']

Ah, to be on vacation...last time I took vacation I was called into the office as well, but I made them pay me regular time for the day instead of vacation time. Good luck with your week off and hope to see more on your ship construction. :dyn

  10. Re: Would you marry a near-human alien?

I would have to agree that looks do not always matter when it comes to a marriage, as well, peer pressure would cause marriage to be difficult, but when it comes to pure sexual interactions...it would be quite high and probably be considered "kinky" to "get with an alien".

To answer the question, of course I would marry an alien where things worked out for the two of us.

  11. Re: Star Wars lightsaber help

I still have the d6 WEG version of Star Wars and characters do use their TK to attack with a lightsaber. It is hard to do, but possible. In the movies, lightsabers are thrown, like a dagger or ax, but in WEG a character can even fight with it at range (adds to the difficulty considerably). Also, a characters Control Force ability either added or subtracted it damage the lightsaber does...this helps in not killing others. Don't know if you'all care or not about that part. I never really liked it, but I guess it made since when sparing and practicing so it would not be lethal.
