  1. Re: Setting, really: Corporate Champions?

What do PCs do? Please say “fight super crime” and not “sit in a boardroom and make decisions on how super humans are to be dispatched (“advertise kool-aid is also unacceptable, unless you get to break down walls and yell “Oh Yeah!”).

It sounds like you have to pay to be a superhero, what with the property destruction. Clearly non-damaging heros (like telepaths) don’t have to sign up, unless you intend for there to be lots of legal fees.

Why do mutants become superheroes? What motivates them? It cant’ be money, because it costs to be a hero, it can’t be doing what the system cant’ do (e.g. vigilante style), since they are still part of the system. What is the advantage to working for a corporation rather than say, the government?

    How exactly does super-law work?

    RE: The Stare

I actually think it's just +60 PRE (or more), Only for PRE attacks. I'm sure she could use it on the cutie mark crusaders if she wanted to. It may have "No Concious Control" as she claims she cannot control it, but it is always used when needed, so I would not build it this way.

In order of least to most points, my guess is:

Rarity < Rainbow Dash, Apple Jack, Fluttershy < Twilight Sparkle < Pinkie Pie

  3. Re: GM question

I think it's totally fine, so long as he doesn't plan on sitting inside objects, attacking out, and claiming DEF from the object. IDK what happend with indirect tunneling, but I'll assume it was a bad experience.

  4. Re: Hmmm. More on Special Effects

I see this as a metagame question. Would you rather it be easier for people to be detected, or remain undetected?

Your proposal could lead to characters who cannot be detected by unusual sense groups (either with shapeshift or Invisibility). While a character who is being attacked still knows they are beign attacked (with some exceptions), it does increase the ease of being undetected. I personally think this is a bad thing, because I’d rather people be able to detect each other than not.

  5. Re: Bows

What kind of adventuring do you have in mind? A world which is relatively "safe" with areas of high danger would mean that standard/recurve bows are adequate (you know when you should string your bow), vs. a world where the average countryside is dangerous might lead to more development of decurve bows. Identify what use you think each bow should use. Also compare them to other ranged weapons in your setting.

  6. Re: Cybernetics and Bioengineering: what are YOUR limits?

Cybernetic stuff scares me. If they can link up a device to your brain' date=' then that means a device can read your brain, and the concept of "thought crime" can't be far behind that.[/quote']

Are you talking about Direct Neural Interface (DNI) (the concept of connecting electronics to a meat brain), or patterning (the concept of digitizing a human being into an electronic copy)?

While “thought crime” is a scary word, we don’t destroy all cars due to “automotive crime”, guns due to “gun crime” or the internet due to “internet crime”. Our society will adapt, and the ability to enforce and break the law will equilibrate.

  7. Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic HERO

Also, I'm not convinced Earth Ponies are any stronger or tougher than their Unicorn and Pegasus counterparts. Pinkie Pie demonstrates many powers (teleportation, stretching, precognition, super speed, building a gyrocopter out of candy) but better physical stats don’t seem to be among them. I think Earth Ponies are the standard.

  8. Re: Cybernetics and Bioengineering: what are YOUR limits?

We can’t even prove other humans have human-level thought, only that they appear to. Any sufficiently complex algorithm will appear to be sapient from outside the black box, just like a person.

I’m for any amount of improvement, so long as it is an improvement and I can afford it.

  9. Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic HERO

I would have Power Skill: Clouds for 3 points. Occasionally Rainbow Dash will use it to clean someone, make them wet, scare people, etc. It seems like a generic enough ability to be a Power Skill.

Also, I'd have your package include 3 points worth of skills related to their cutie-mark

  10. Re: Breakable vs. unbreakable Focus

Yes, unbreakable foci are just better than breakable ones and cost the same. This is a problem but a very minor one. Usually the GM can handle it by either not allowing it, increasing the amount of time the focus is taken away or neutrilized, or making unbreakable an advantage.

  11. Re: many wolves > one chimaera O.o

Ok, looking at the monsters, I'd say the chimera needs about +4 speed, +10 dex, +3 DCs, and 50% DR. That's a guess since I have no idea what the PCs are like in terms of defenses and damage. I'd also move the breath to an AOE cone to let it threaten multiple PCs.

  12. Re: The Rule of F(X)

I've played in games with the rule of F(X) and while I do not speak for Fireg0lem, I can speak of my own experiences. ?I do think that Fireg0lem should post the whole house rules and not just the F(X) in partiality, since

I believe you can put characteristics in a multipower. However' date=' if you pull the DCV and instead make that rDEF or a Barrier (one through which I can attack, or one which I can dismiss), you will get a similar result - a character who switches from glass cannon to turtle mode as needed. Or buy DCV that cannot be used if attacking. Or buy Desolid or "Enter the Phantom Zone" EDM.[/quote']

You can put DCV in a multipower. 6E1 178: “Characters can purchase Characteristics as Powers, with Advantages, Limitations, and/or in Power Frameworks. For these purposes, treat a Characteristic as a Standard Power, and compute the cost using the regular cost for that Characterstic (see 6E1, Chapter Two).”

Here we get into campaign rules' date=' as I don't associate hit locations with Supers. How much offense do 8 PSL's for called shots cost me? VorpalMan could be a very effective build. Enhanced senses trump flash, and there are lots of ways to address entangle (especially if you have a base of 25 DC's...). [/quote']

Normally we (Fireg0lem and myself) use hit locations as a default rule, same with bleeding. If fireg0lem had posted the entire rules, you would have been able to see that.

Also 8 PSLs is +1/2 advantage (~ +2 stun multiple) (I dont' know if that's an official house rule but it's how I look at it).

Now' date=' the next suggestion is likely to be "Well, all the Bad Guys will gang up on DCV Sucks Man to take him out quickly". Valid [/quote']

I've actually played a character (in a previous F(X) version before the attack caps got changed) with -2 Speed, -5 CSLs, -6 DCV, +8 OCV, +4 DEF, +3 Dcs.

The result of that character (who had 0 DCV and no hit locations), was I got autofired down by mooks my first fight. First phase, took a whole bunch of autofire hits and went down. So autofire does keep you DCV honest (at least that was my experience).

  13. Re: Ability Guidelines for Cosmically Powerful Characters (6e)

Herocentral.net has some pbps, and I'll try and get around to posting up some chars sometime this weekend.

Edit: Active points can be a really terrible way to gauge characters. Some advantages are not DC increasing (e.g. 0 END), and that will skew your findings. Stick to evaluating Damage Classes. For defenses, i suggest total DEF rather than resistant (most fights end with people unconcious rather than dead). 1 DC of damage negation is ~ 3 points of DEF (3.5 stun, but is worse at preventing body damage). Damage negation is either over or under priced AP wise depedning on the DC/DEF and point totals of your game. In 600pt characters, 50% DR is really good, in 100pt Characters it's a worse buy.

  14. Re: Ability Guidelines for Cosmically Powerful Characters (6e)

In HERO there are no official guidelines for power levels (other than ones set by the GM).

Points are only a general idea of how powerful a character is, to get a good measurement you must look at the character sheet as a whole, including: Speed, DCs, CVs, Defenses, and to a lesser extent powers, frameworks and characteristics.

I've played 700-800 point 5th edition characters before. My group also has some balancing guidelines for high powered (500+) characters.

It seems like from your post, you'd like us to post 2 characters and explain how to look at them and compare their effectiveness. Is this correct?
