  1. Re: Fantasy Races

By the way, I have decided to simply go with odd little names...that I come up with as I go.

The Maurr are the dog race as you can see above me. :)

The Tigeons are the Cat-like wannabe race...mostly they look like people with tails, long ears and cat like eyes. The subtypes Leon, Tigara, Panthro, etc., pertain only to their coloring and hair styles.

I hope to give each race martial arts, magic, package deals, and linguistic styles, subraces and if I can stick with it, a nice history. The world is slowly taking form in my head. We'll see if anything comes of it.

what about domestic house cats? would they be the "fey" race equivilant to the Maur feys?

BTW I really love all this creative imaginative, wild world conjuring talk...

  2. Re: Doing traps

Anyway besides thinking about nifty traps you might want to give some thought to what you want to get out of the traps' date=' a flavor for the "dungeon", to scare the players, to make them think, to make them take that "detect traps" skill you mentioned next time, to make them lose all that cool equipment they bought with the proceeds of their last adventure, make them live off the land on the journey home or just to entertain yourself at their expense (perfectly acceptable in my view, GM's need fun too), if you figure out why you want the traps I find it helps come up with how to build the traps.[/quote']

    Thanks for input,

actually I'm trying to recreate an old board game, the first fantasy game I ever had called Dungeon Dweller, and it had three types of traps : thousand knives, falling block, and bottomless pit. Very basic but I have really fond memories of this game and converting it to hero system is just good fun.

also I was thinking a good title for the Fantasy companion book could be:

Traps, Tricks, and Treasure. I'll post it up and see what everyone thinks should be in it.

  3. Re: Doing traps

    thanks for the advice,

just wondering if you guys have any other ideas for original traps, also how many traps should I put in? so for for the crypt i have four, thousand knives, a deep pit, a fireball door knob, and a falling block, the demon door, net etc, is for the second part of the adventure which leads to the vast caverns underneath...

  4. I have serious problems figuring out how to write up traps for a typical dungeon adventure.

I have in mind the following :

Cage of a thousand knives - the cage is suspended over a small 4" room. If the character misses a picklock roll to the door in the room leading to a long hallway, the cage falls releasing a thousand knives from the cieling. The cage covers the entire area of the room.

Huge falling block - like the cage but this time a huge block is released from the cieling crushing anything beaneath.

bottomless pit, the character just keeps falling falling falling...

pit with spikes, if the character springs the false floor he falls into a pit of spikes.

normal pit, 20 meters deep, another false floor

Fireball keyhole - when the wrong key is inserted in the keyhole a 1 charge 3d6 rka firball is released.

Deadly door knob - when the character grasps the door knob his life energy is drained by a demon bound in the door knob

deadly darts - stepping on certain stones in the floor releases several poisoned darts on either side of the hallway

low-fi net drop - walking into the room releases a heavy 2" net over the characters

    Now my questions are :

do traps have dexterity and speed (to see if the character has a chance to dogde or jump to safety)

would you allow dwarfs to sense a trap that is "magic" or "demonic" in origin?

It would really help me flesh out my adventure if I could get some help building these devious deadly dastardly doohickys...

    thanks.

  5. Re: [Western Champions] Chamions of the West Super Team

    Hi again

what about the snake form? or even the mouse form for that matter?, Fox and cayote are too similar to me. Both represent also the kind of "clever", "mischevious" archtype found in armeridian myth, where as snake goes in another direction, or even mouse, or even buffalo, but you already have a bear form (brick). Diversity. (sorry if it sounds like i'm nitpicking here)

  6. Re: Faster than a speeding bullit...

Thanks for the help guys, yeah I forgot about the 1930's Superman at Surbrooks, It does help put things in perspective. As Acroyear pointed out I would probably add swimming, and some agility skills. Also I think I'll make him even less resistant, 12 or 14 pd/ed. I'd like to keep his super leap for a "typical" tall building in the 30's, probably a 40 story building (or is that extremely tall, don't know). I remember the Leaping Lizard from the WWII champions supplement, I'll take a look at that as well. My other team members are:

Sir Wright (doc savage rip off)

    L'Espada Rojo (Zorro's grandaughter)

The Lonsome Stranger (lone ranger clone with weird mystical side)

Zantar of the Jungle (Tarzan ripp off)

    The Widow (a Shadow hommage)

  7. Hello I need help,

I wanted to build a sort of lo-fi superman, one that was more consistant with the early post pulp 30's 40's version then planet pushing God-Man. So my basic criteria for building him would be to follow the old syaing

"Faster then a speeding bullit, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound"

the problem is: in game terms how fast is a speeding bullit?

    how powerful is a locomotive?

okay able to leap tall buildings in a single bound is superleap...

so if I can get a handle on the bullit and locomotive angle I think I'll be able to wing the rest creating a lo-fi supes for an almost pulp like campaign (idea)

    thanks e

  8. Re: [Western Champions] Chamions of the West Super Team

Well I got to really looking at seeker and lucky jack, two observations :

it looks like seeker is already the Lancelot of the group, so maybe you should drop the indian warrior and make the shaman a real indian shaman, also I think you need to beef up Lucky Jack, really to give him amazing trick shot capabilities (like limited telekenisis, you know, just to knock over a lever or graze a button). But honestly defender looks too darned powerfuml. I can't imagine that big clinky armor really being useful until the "big shoot em up" at the end of the story. You should develope the Jack Harmon character more and leave have the armor come in for really limited use.

  9. Re: [Western Champions] Chamions of the West Super Team

I'm thinking abiout the shaman and the idan warrior, I like the idea of his multi forms being : cayote, bear, eagle, and ...snake, these would tie in deftly with most ameridain myths.

as for the indian warrior he needs to be the Lancelot of the team, the perfect athelite and warrior. Maybe he could have a totem or "magic" strength he could draw on for limited time. (plus wopping bow skills, knife, gun, natural weapons master, running, acrobat skills, swinging, climbing, etc..)

oh yeah the undertaker is a very cool concept, but the defender armor should only be used sparingly, while Jack Harmon should have other gadgets / lab ( like james west) for most scenarios. I see him as a darker type of hero, a western batman, it might even be nice to give him a different name for the armor, to really inspire fear, what is he anyway a US Marshal? a sherif, a millionaire who goes seeking justice by his own devices? How about Midnight (something, sorry almost had it).

  10. Hi

I finally saw the mystery men movie about 2 weeks ago, and I still don't know why I waited so long to see it, it was so great and stupid and wonderfully cheesy.

Any way wondering if anyone ever built these guys, because although they are probably incopetent normals in the beginning of the film by the end the gm must have been giving them some serious points for their first fight against casanova frakenstien and when they started training with the blue sphink. they actualy would make pretty decent 250 style champs...

    here's my take on it

Mr Furious : he's the brick but he's really a low fi hulk, probably has 20 strength with a strength aid when ever he's angry or when someone he cares for is in danger, he has a MA style that closly resembles Curly from the three stooges : ear pops, nose twinks, eye pocks, etcs, he wants to be the leader but is still too much of a poser to really have people follow him, but at the end of the movie he comes off pretty tough...oh yeah add some light defense for his leathers and metal arm gaurds

The shoveler : if Mr Furious is the brick, the shoveler is the real MA, he's quick, and real handy with that there shovel, he has some light armor as well, and lots of endurance (he was the one that really seemed to be doing most of the fighting), he's the heart of the team and to me seemed to be the real leader. (remember the speech he gave about the mayonaise sandwich to see what I mean)

Blue Raja ; he seems to me to be the team's mentalist, (remember trick shot when he closed FC's car door lock?) he also has several variations on his thrown fork attack : rapid fire, area effect(he can throw eight at a time) NND when he hits different nerve areas to incapacitate opponents(the actor explained in an interview this attack stating that the BR would NEVER kill)

So Furious is the body, Shoveler is the Heart and Raja is the brain

    oh yeah then there's Spleen...

The Spleen : so far he seems to have one attack, a massive NND area effect, needs someone to pull his finger though, and can't really see where he's shooting (confused, see the movie), could easily develop a damage shield (body odor) another NND (bad breath) etc... although I'm not sure how the team would work with him afterwards.

There's the Blue Sphinx who talks in cheesy riddles and has strange undifined powers ("he can saw guns in half with his mind") he seems to be the only one who is really worried about his secret identity, he wears a mask, oh yeah Blue Raja has the fake english accent but I don't think it would really hold up to close scrutiny...or torture.

The Bowler with her TK dad's skull bowling ball attack, the invisible boy who is probably THE lamest super hero ever invented (can only turn invisible when no one is watching) and last but not least Tom Waits as the cool mad professor guy with a stomping Gadet Pool (usable by others) he's the one that arms them with various nonlethal whacky gadgets.

Could be fun, reminds me of the early Batman series with Adam West, guns just don't seem to count in these kitch superhero worlds. I like that.

  11. more visuals

I was thinking Lantern woman would look like a nun actaully all in white, she would be carrying ...well a lantern (also victorian looking) her powers are on the weird mystical sides

dispel darkness, demons, ect, trak evil, lots of aides to strength and body, stun, or she could aid any ally power to make it momentarily a superduper power... She becomes a giant or disolide, in my mind she's like the specter from DC...

Man 3 looks like a math geek wearing kevlar

  12. good work!

it's okay, if we call martian flashman just the Martian Flash we could come up with a character called Man Man or Man Squared (if you see what I mean) He can sqaure a basic humans power (scientist mathmatics origins) or maybe square a human's mental powers (we need a mentalist)...oh yeah and I like Lantern woman personally way too much...okay so if we take bcholmes basic team and combine it with freakboys Lantern Woman and Man 3 we have a kick'n team:

    Lantern woman:

From the battle fields of the Napoleonic war to the modern day she travels from battle to battle healing the sick guiding the lost home and caring fro the dying she is lantern woman

    Man 3: Man Man Man

Or man 3 is a set of psychic triplets there psychic abilities manifested in the womb with a potent mind link and as such they have no distinct personalities in fact they are one man in 3 bodies they can act perfectly in unison

The Green Man -- legendary old England forest spirit. Known by many names: Herne the hunter, Attis of Anatolia and others. His control of the plant kingdom gives him immense power.

Martian Flash -- Dr. Barry Jones' family has, for generations, held on to an object of great power -- a device left over from the Martian invasion of London in the late 1800s. The flashray can be a weapon, a portal and a tool for discerning the truth. For many years, the Jones family hid the device, knowing that the British government wanted to keep all such devices for itself. Now, Dr. Jones has decided to use the flashray to rid the world of evil and hypocracy.

Bat-Hunter -- Few people know of The Bat, the evil demonic presence that guides the various nightmarish entities on the planet: vampires, wraiths, and succubi. Van Helsing learned of The Bat after years of pursuing vampires such as Dracula, and he assembled a team of Bat Hunters to finally rid the world of this evil. But that was many years ago, and The Bat struck back, destroying Van Helsing's legacy. Now, only one Bat-Hunter remains. Johanna Wayne, the only offsping of two Bat-Hunters and the only survivor of The Bat's deadly pogrom. By the age of 11, Johanna had mastered the sword. By 13, her mastery of four different martial arts seemed supernatural. Now, at 16, is she able to succeed where an entire team of Bat-Hunters failed?

The Aqua Wonder -- Arthur Prince doesn't know what happens to him when the Aqua Wonder takes over his body. Arthur himself is a boring insurance salesman. But the Aqua Wonder appears to be the world's greatest acrobat. And is his bluish-green skintight costume really a costume, or... something else? Where does the Aqua Wonder come from? Why does he never speak? And what are those strange spray-painted blue-green symbols that he leaves everywhere? On buildings, on vehicles, and even on the crooks he captures.

Super Plastic -- Clark O'Brien was a petty crook who broke into the Kent house many years ago and discovered the most incredible find of career: the Kents had been hiding a spaceship, sent from a doomed planet. The aliens had sought to preserve their technology and had sent various devices into space. Unfortunately, most of those devices could not function properly due to Earth's yellow sun. But one device still worked: a wrist-cuff that can create a super-hard plastic in any shape that its wearer could imagine. Giving up his life of crime, O'Brien started using his "super plastic" for good.

and the Strange Defender team is:

Strange Mariner : team leader, doomed mystical pirate mage, commanding an undead crew

Silver Hawk : 70 year old lady encased in alien armor, heightened senses, super speed, flight

DR. Hel: 14 year old super genius, detective

Val the Knight Cat : a telechinetic powerhouse from another dimension where the common house cat evolved as the dominate species

Sub Surfer : a gadget kung fu guy surfing a giant sub sandwich (for real)

Hulk Eyre : a doomed immortal scotsman who must right the wrongs he commited a thousandfold, super strength, nigh invulnerable lawyer...

now we just need an artist...

He might be stunned, but he'd recover the next phase... and fly whatever was left of Shadowcat to the nearest ER room.

Same argument for the Nightcrawler thing.

Especially since they showed that Kryptonians tend to heal fast if they're not dead outright. Supes was shot in a recent Superman / Batman comic issue witha Kryptonite bullet, and Bats hadda get the bullet out before the fricking skin closed up around it! (Kryptonite apparently doesn't rob him of his powers, but he does get weak and die if near it.)

The Phoenix would hafta generate RED SUN radiation or something to take him out.

I suppose you're right. So then how could the x-team win, in the scenario Phoenix is marvel girl, but perhaps they would need a phoenix character...

One thing I'd like to have all of you're opinion on though -

Could Wolverine's claws make a dent in Superman's defenses?

Could Xavier, the White Queen, or Phoenix take control of Supes mind?

Could we let the x-team have Magneto?

There was a theory above of the JLA = 4 magneto's not counting Bats and Aquaman, so I guess it looks like a black day for the xmen

Oh yeah in the scenario Batman would have a partial gadget pool in his belt, and I was thinking of throwing in Hawkman with the JLA team.

But honestly couldn't Martian manhunter be taken out by the Xavier/Frost/Grey triple 40d6+ mind attack?

  14. I've been thinking of what would happen in an xmen vs JLA showdown...

my idea is that the two teams are teleported to a mountainous area, with a plush valley seperating them. The JLA line up is classic:

    Superman

    Batman

    Wonderwoman

    Greenlantern

    the Flash

    Aquaman

    Martian Manhunter

on the xmen's side we have

    Cyclops

    Marvel Girl

    Colossus

    Wolverine

    Nightcrawler

    Storm

    and for good measure...

    Havoc

    Poloris

    Emma frost

    Rogue

    Gambit

    Quicksilver

    Charles Xavier

    and Shadow Cat

the xmen have more people on their team to equal out the horrible point per character scale. The game : The Xmen must kill Superman, and the JLA must kill Wolverine, otherwise their own worlds will be destroyed...both teams have just two hours to "seek and destroy"

Now I was thinking of the insuing battle, and of course the JLA would probably trash the xmen pretty badly, but the xmen have three powerful telepaths, while the JLA has the Martain Manhunter, and possibly aquaman (at least for defense) After emma frost turns wonder woman against superman, whose been fighting (trashing) Colossus and Wolvie, even though Wolverine has hit him from behind and Supes is bleeding badly, Colossus gets knocked into orbit, Supes is frying the flesh off of Wolverine, Wonderwoman smashes into Supes, big fight, Wolvie near death gets bamfed out of there by Nightcrawler...

Supes who doesn't want to really hurt wonderwoman is fighting defensivly, but time is almost up, so he decides to pummel wonder woman, (oh yeah at the same time Batman has dispatched of : Cyclops, Gambit, Poloris, Havoc, and now he is advancing on Xavier, whom he suspects was the one who fried Martian Manhunter's brain early in the game, he has a bategoshield that he hastily developed and he is moving swiftly to the man in wheelchair, Xavier seeing bats appoach and realising that the xmen are practically beaten calls to shadowcat giving her orders to a desperate plan, just before bats is on him, (he still had to get through Jean Grey who was protecting Xavier) Charles unleashes a whopping mind blast towards Superman, who was concentrating on finding wolvie with his hearing and vision, he staggers, but the son of krypton is still not defeated...

Shadow Cat "runs" along the air towards him, she hesitaites, sees xavier go down, then plunges her own body into Superman's, then she becomes solid...

  15. wierd rules!!!!

so far my favorites are man 3 and flsh girl (namewise) I was thinking flash girl could be like you said a photojournalist who was traking a currupt ring of "mad" scientist, she stumbled into a lab where she found several gadgets, especially an unassuming camera with an absurd flash mounted on top, when the scientists goons burst in to capture her, she aimed the camera and flashed them, a blinding flash ...and they where gone!!!! a 12cm x 12cm photo popped out of the bottom of the camera, the thugs where on the paper and looking at her screaming with fury, somehow they had been teleported to another dimension, wich Flash Woman held in her hand, after tinkering with the camera and several crime fighting adventures later, she has learned that she can :

    flash on all senses

teleport area hexes to the two dimensional photo world (and get them back in a wierd huge resizer she keeps in her lab)

drain powers, then the camera can "use" the power (Energy only)

create flash barriers of incredible durability

    etc...

Man three is a mentalist in three bodies (like you said)

    everything else looks hunky dory

when is the confrontation - wierd justice vs strange defenders?

  16. Thanks to freakboy6 the strange defenders have taken on a life of their own out of a pretty silly concept

    Strange Defenders :

Strange Mariner : team leader, doomed mystical pirate mage, commanding an undead crew

Silver Hawk : 70 year old lady encased in alien armor, heightened senses, super speed, flight

DR. Hel: 14 year old super genius, detective

Val the Knight Cat : a telechinetic powerhouse from another dimension where the common house cat evolved as the dominate species

Sub Surfer : a gadget kung fu guy surfing a giant sub sandwich (for real)

Hulk Eyre : a doomed immortal scotsman who must right the wrongs he commited a thousandfold, super strength, nigh invulnerable lawyer...

now i was thinking of doing the same thing with (drum roll please) you guessed it the JLA (classic)

    Superman

    Batman

    Wonder Woman

    Plastic Man

    Auqaman

    Green Latern

    The Flash

    Martian Manhunter

    choices:

    Super flash

    Wonder Bat

    Green plastic

    aqua manhunter

    martian lantern

    or

    Super Bat Woman

    Aqua Flash

    Plastic manhunter

    Greenman

    Wonder lantern

    how about:

    Woman Bat

    Super Green

    Plastic Flash

    Aqua martian

    Lantern Manhunter

    the wonder

    uuuh:

    Super Plastic

    Lantern Woman

    aqua wonder

    green flash

    bat lantern

    martian man

    the manhunter

    any suggestions...

  17. Hulk Erye

    I'm back....

Actually I was thinking Hulk Eyre would have a strength boosting factor in porportion to how wicked, evil, cruel his adversary is. So if he's fighting common thugs, or a vigilante his strength would be a normal (for him) 60, but if he's fighting the strange defender's arch nemisis Miss Phisto, well he might just go beyond 100, also i was thinking inaddition he could have healing powers when standing on sacred grounds, not just christian but any sacred area, which he can sense (all those long forgotten indian barial grounds...)

    Strange Defenders :

    Strange Mariner

Silver Hawk (my choice as second in command)

    DR. Hel

    Val the Knight Cat

    Sub Surfer

    Hulk Eyre

    looks cool from here...

  18. long time no post

sorry it took me sooo long to reply to your post freakboy6, Silver Hawk is a really cool origin, the team looks good too, even the unlikely "Sub Surfer".

my two favorites of course are : Strange Mariner and Silver Hawk.

Good work, did you write them up though?

Hulk erye would probably be around a 60 strength but could have some kind of boosting power (like the hulk) but only to protect truely innocent and pure persons...

anyway gotta go my baby is crying...

  19. flawed yet stubborn

    Thanks for the input guys,

fakir said:Alright here's how I'd roughly build the power if a player described wanting the effect you've expressed.

    1. Buy up as much SPD as possible in a focus (the belt) and take the limitation Side Effect (set effect always occurs) Drain users running.

    2. Link a SPD Drain damage shield AoE 1 hex with personel immunity to the extra SPD and take the limitation Side Effect (set effect always occurs) Images "Distortion Effect"

    3. Link Missile deflection "all attacks" to the extra SPD.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

this seems good to me too, I guess I just can't get my idea across though, this fast slow thing. but thanks for pondering it with me....

  20. more slowness

This post is somewhat long, but I'm just putting off cleaning up the kitchen, so forgive me, thanks though for your input...

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    from Rebar :

Your description of the SFX begs the question of synchronization.

If, from the outside, the fight with the Speedster appears to last several minutes, the beamer can be firing his EB into the field while that combat appears to be in full swing - not several minutes after it appears to have ended. So, even though Joe appears to be swinging his first punch at the speedster, he now appears to be having to dodge an incoming EB at the same time he's just swinging his first swing.

How is this possible if, internally, Joe has landed his punch, KO'd the Speedster, looted his body, propped him up in an embarrassing pose, then sat down to have a smoke - all before that EB actually penetrated his field?

Basically, at some frequent interval, the imaged actions of the character must reconcile with the real actions or you've got real trouble.

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I know this is a weird concept and goofy science, and that's why I posted this because I'm not really too sure how it works either, but I see this big dumb thug with a time distorter belt who is wearing brass knuckles and ploughing through heros and I know that it could be built the way I see it, after all this is champions rules...

Tyhe way I imigine it : anything entering Joe's sphere is slowed down, Joe percieves any projectiles the way the Flash would percieve any projectiles. And that's the weird part of this concept, try imagining the Flash moving in slow motion, dodging bullits and such. Anything entering the bubble is entering another dimension. Things slow down to Joe's time frame. So we must imagine that if Joe apears to be moving super slow, than anything entering the bubble is moving 12x slower. Actually now that I'm thinking about it Joe's power is pretty stupid, becaues he's a sitting duck. Everyone would be able to take pot shots at him until a mass of bullits and EB's filled his bubble. Of course, he might be able to dodge everything, perhaps his bubble should be built as missle deflection concerning projectiles...

Remember Slow motion Joe has Flash like powers but only in a limeted range (5" hexes)

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    Farkling Said :

I'm with ReBar on that. It'd be more in keeping with the logistics of your description to ONLY have snapshots appear to the people outside the field.

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

That's exactly what I've always meant, people see him moving in slow motion from the outside, while inside the bubble he's like the Flash...everything entering the field will be moving based on Joe's 12speed and speedster tricks (like the Flash)

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    Farkling Said :

Vernor Vinge's theoretical stasis fields have an effect similar to that.

In wierd science terms, the "both worlds" effect (incredible speed and slowness) would cause an ever increasing delay at the interface point of the field. A time distortion directly on the dimensional interface that causes an interdimensional "friction" if you will. Gradually, this will build up until something breaks, either the field generator, the anchor into our dimension, or time itself.

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I'm not really worried with scientific concepts, or even weird scientific theory, I'm using comic book science which simply dictates "If I can imagine the concept or power, no matter how ludicrous or silly, I have the right to create it"

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    Farkling Said :

Sounds like a player searching for an uberpower capable of stopping anything the GM might come up with. Especially from your decription of the speedster. If a spedster cannot lay a hand on you, and your reflexes/speed are that high, then nothing can harm you. Where's the play/fun/risk? What will concern this character?

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

You're right! I am trying to come up with concepts and powers that are strange and original and might make a fun night's gaming, allow me that pleasure please! But I don't think Slow Motion Joe is an uberpower. First off I made a bad choice using the example of the Speedster being clobbered so easily by Joe. Joe's only real power is that he is like the Flash inside a small area, while outside he moves like a snail. He might be tough like a common thug and probably has dirty infighting with brass knuckles.

Let's say he's fighting the JLA for example, The game: Joe is making a bank hiest, Flash is zipping around and sees the cops firing on Joe who is dodging bullits in slow motion. Flash says "looks like a wierd speed field thingy, right up my alley," and flash zips in to do a move by on joe, when flash enters the field he immediatly has a speed drain.(dunno 6D6 speed drain, we would have to figure out how fast a bullit travels than figure out what it would take to "drain" the speed of a bullit to where Joe percieves the bullit moving in slow motion, now give me help on this, remember I'm here asking for advice) The Flash begins slowing down, but it's still the Flash who was moving at a speed 12, he sees Joe who is moving like the Flash should be moving, incredibly fast. They begin to fight, Joe at first is hard pressed because the Flash is still super fast although his speed is quickly drained, so Joe lands an upper cut which KO's the flash. By this time (the cops have ceased firing for fear of hitting the flash who has slowed down) Green Latern arrives on the scene. He makes a quick assessment of the situation and tries to attack Joe with an EB, Joe dodges the EB. GL then thinks to himself, "Hmmm, this calls for some serious diagnostics" and simply encases Joe in a force bubble around Joe's own speed bubble. Joe, who only has a 16 strength can't punch through GL's force wall. He's stuck. Batman would eventually figure out how to difuse his belt, or the belt would run out of energy. So Joe is not really an Uber-anything. Just a thug with a belt that I'm still not sure how to do.

Two things that require some additional thought::

    1) How does the normal world appear to him? It should practically be standing still. how do you plan for him to communicate with ANYONE ?? How can he interact with the world beyond his tremendously versatile combat monster effects?

    2) What woul dhappen if he was bracketed by napalm or had a building fall on him? Caught in a flash flood? Fell off of a cliff? What impact does the distortion field have on this sort of real world construct?

Joe must see the "outside" world in fast forward. Everything is wizzing by at phenomenal speeds, but he doen't really care because he has a psychological limitation "overconfident with belt" and he thinks he can dodge anything entering the sphere.

If Joe wants to communicate with anyone he could turn off his belt, or if it's a friendly teamate he could simply allow the person to come in his bubble, although that person will be speed drained! He could write something on a pad of paper and leave it behind him when he slowly moves away...

As for area blast effects I was thinking the same thing...Can the Flash or other speedsters "dodge" area effects, I guess we just apply the same rule. If it was a flash flood, I could imagine the water slowly appearing from all sides around his bubble and slowly filling the bubble up, Joe would probably die a horrible prolonged death by drowning, knowing he could never run or swim to safety before the water fills the bubble completely, he could though turn off the belt and perhaps the worst of the flood would have gone by and he might survive...(more unlikely events have happened to even dumber characters in real comics so why not)

Thanks again for challengling input and critisicm, this has pushed the concept and is helping me figure out somewhat where to go with it...
