  1. Re: Playing with characters provided by the GM

    /Derail

How does one minor glitch in one character kill an entire campaign that everyone otherwise loved?

    /Derail

It was a minor glitch that turned major thanks to the actions of other players... and myself I guess.

I should note in the other caimpaign [the Hero based one] I forgot an important point. We actually made normal human characters with no point limit. We were just asked to be reasonable. The GM then in the first session had us gain superpowers which were based on in part what we would like, and in part on the character. Not quite fully pregen.

In the glitch caimpaign, the characters came with personality and everything predone.

  2. Re: Namedropping

Ron Jeremy. If he can't beat them with his stick, or his schtick, he could just take off his shirt and use is fat hairy body to scare them off.

He is also a major attention whore, even for minor celebs.

The members of KISS, same reason [attention] plus marketing possiblities.

They even have their own costumes. ;)

  3. Re: Playing with characters provided by the GM

A fantasy game where we got characters which for the most part suited us and our preferences. Didn't work out well at the end, because of one minor glitch in one character.

A champs game which lasted one session much to the regret of all the players. We had characters made, but desgined to keep in mind our personality types. The interesting thing was, we basiclly woke up with powers in this place, however we didn't have a clue what our powers were untill it came into effect. "Hey that shot should have killed me, whoa I am much stronger now". Never got a chance to see our character sheets.

    That was interesting.

  4. Can one reduce a radius or cone [or I guess line] area of effect size by choise and still use the power at full active points value.

If say one is at a bank and the bad guys are in the center, you want to do full damage, yet you would rather a radius of say 3" then the full 10" you would have.

If not, could one apply an advantage at allows you to change the size of the area effect, much like one can with the hole in the middle, or the 1/4 that allows megascale to go back to 1km.

If so, what would you suggest as a value for said advantage.

I have Fred, but I don't have any of his little friends, so forgiveness please if it is explained in another suppliment.

  5. Re: Project 1000: Build a Legend/Megahero

    Hero name. Imortal Urberguy

Concept. Big fat white guy was at his computer on Cornwall Ontario, when he read a Project 1000 thread on the hero games website forum. He worked on a character based on the sort of powers he would like to have. Sure enough when he was done, it came true, making himself the worlds first, and hopefully only superhero.

Stats, based on makeing everything except for speed at a legendary level, Can deadlift more then twice the current powerlifting champ at a 30 str, I assume similar for the other 30s

Enough resistant PD and ED to shurg off any body damage except from a good roll on a anti tank missle, or I assume a anti tank arty round.

Regen in case there is a good roll.

Danger sense so I can get out of dodge should some large object hit the earth, or should someone lob a nuke at me.

Teleport, to get out of dodge

Time travel, so when humanity dies out one way or another, I can start over again at say 4000 BC

PRE based skills reflecting a general smoothness as opposed to skill

Enough skills to allow fast learning of anything, assumeing in real life one can actually learn skills without going on adventures, as there is no GM ;)

Achillies Heel. Built to avoid getting killed by normals, if there were supers, he would be dead. Not much ability in terms of attack, or other external powers.

  6. Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist

Had an Aikido character in a FH caimpaign [many years ago] with boatloads of points, but solo. IN the one session he was set upon by these two Ruffians who he could easily beat. Maxed out DCV, did some 0 strength throws, kept suggesting they stop before they get hurt. Went on till I pointed out to the DM that even without damage, being tossed around like that has gotta hurt the morale. They ran away.

Sometimes you don't actually have to damage someone to get them to run.

  7. Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist

    ...

I had a MA that any focus of oppertunity, he could use almost anything he could lift into a weapon, but it required the right kind of object to grab and use. Think Jackie Chan with super-powers.

If you are facing Jackie Chan, super or otherwise, and he gets a hold of a footstool. RUN!

  8. Re: The thing's I've learned playing a Brick...

Even if you have to rip up the floor, you always have a ranged attack

If you have a solo brick and have no movement or ranged attack powers, a psych lim preventing you from destroying private property is probably worth more points then the table allows.

  9. Re: Quick and dirty campaign settings

I've considered doing a single small island caimpaign. One human country of about 30K people, some hinterlands of orc tribes and others either pre exsisting or from a slave rebellian.

Not much to map, could flesh out just about anyone important.

Could have the country be the last surviving outpost of the mainland overrun by X, which was to far out to be discovered. Thus leaving the possibility of the characters going elsewhere if the desire hit.

  10. Re: Military Info

"The MIlitary Balance" often has a lot of information, down to the numbers of a particular type of a/c tank etc.

Check your local Library or use interlibrary loan. It is brutal expensive.

    They come out every year.

  11. Re: Military Info

I almost never rep, but I thought the idea was extremely cute.

I would love to get access to what they think the other side has and compare to the reality, but alas I am not in the position to do either.

  12. Re: Player problem - opinions ....

Now that I think about it, from what I know of strippers, she would probably try slightly, he would say now and she would figure, "great I got paid and I don't even need to touch his Mr. Happy.

Most strippers arn't that into their jobs unless they see some cash flowing their way. Exceptions/rules yadda yadda

  13. Re: Irksome players

It's tied in with what I'm talking about, I think. They can't be in a submissive position. They can't handle people being dominant over them. They must always have a trick up their sleeves, and being captured is worse than dying.

    ...

The player in question was like that in real life. When you would get him with some wit ["burns" as that 70's show calls it] he would deny most strongly that you nailed him. This is a guy who would critize someone elses abilities with women, when at a strip club went into a terror of shyness when some lads got him an air dance and uttered those famous works "I think I am going to puke". Yet when you counter with his ahem brave example, rather then admit he is the lessor man would insist that the person he was talking about is less able then him. Very anoying trait.

I've had a character in a solo caimpaign who refused to back down in a sure death situation, however it was a one time thing, and because I figured due to some extreme successes previously that his overconfidence went from moderate to total. It wasen't so much that he didn't want to lose, but rather the character [but not the player] knew he could beat the Dragon single handed. Actually might of had a chance if it wasen't for some items being dispelled. Shame I really liked that character, but at least he had a good death.

  14. Re: Want to look at my new Map?

    Love the map Eosin.

Lumbering Ox: The radiating compass rose is an important thematic element and is very striking. To remove it would be a mistake IMO.

I withdraw my comment. I look at things from a modern map perspective, of course there are other goals which can be more important.

  15. Re: Irksome players

Knew a player once who utterly refused to surrender regardless. As all his characters where basiclly himself heroified, this happened with every character he took. No reason why, but then he just showed up to roll the dice and kill things. I guess the player thought of surrender as losing the war game.

    Sigh.

  16. Re: Player problem - opinions ....

    ...

HOWEVER, the GM DID allow this player to play these disads, worth points and everything. Whether they SHOULD be worth points or not, at that point, is his call to make. That he let them through, then completely ignored them, well, that's bad form.

I just wonder how chastity would be a disadvantage outside of a Jerry Springer world, or unless you are playing in a James Bond world where the only way to gain information is to shag it out of a bird.

I have this vision in my head of the Simpsons bullys going "Hey! He dosen't have sex, lets get him!"

Nothing wrong with 0 point disads of course, or putting in as part of a bigger disad, as you suggested.
