  1. Anyone have any idea for something like this? So 100 MPH winds might be equivalent to X STR, or a F5 Tornado could be Y STR?
  2. A question of clarification. Requires a roll, when based off a skill, imposes a penalty of "-1 per 10 Active Points". Later, in the example, it uses the example: 45/10 = -4. The question is, is this the latter, and thus rounds mathematically, or the former, and thus doesn't round? If something is 49 Active Points, is the penalty -1 per 10 Active (and thus -4) or 49/10 (and thus -5)?
  3. On pg. 85 of 6E1, the rules refer to "Encumbrance Skill Levels, which offset the DCV penalty for being Encumbered". However, the Encumbrance rules on pg. 45 of 6E2 also note that there is a movement reduction which happens as a character becomes more encumbered. Later in the writeup on Penalty Skill Levels, it mentions that a Penalty Skill Level can be used to offset a loss of DC /in addition to/ offsetting the DCV penalty, for the appropriate situation. My question is: following the same logic, would an Encumbrance Skill Level also offset the movement penalty? If not, what would be the appropriate way to buy something to counter that? (+Running, only when Encumbered?)
  4. Quick Question. If one has Characteristics bought as a power (example, someone has a +BODY or +STR power), can one buy Perceivable for it to reflect it being obvious? (I.E., having the muscular development of the Hulk, rather than Superman). Are Characteristics considered Obvious, Inobvious, or Invisible?
  5. Unless I'm mistaken, the characteristic range has been expanded in 6th. An "Average Person" has a range from 6-10, according to 6th, pg. 48. That seems a pretty wide range. Is it for adults only, or is the 6 for children? What would a teenager be?
  6. Re: System Requiremnts? With that computer, I'm betting you don't HAVE a video card. You have shared video memory. Celerons were craptastic to start with, and anything at that megahertz speed is pretty much an antique, unfortunately.
  7. Okay, quick question. I've read the environmental effects in the FRED, and they mention rain and wind...but neither seem to be remotely close to what we'd see in an actual tropical storm/hurricane. Are there rules anywhere on how to simulate this accurately in HERO?
  8. I know that somewhere, in all the 5th Ed materials, there was a section that talked about the other targets for Transform; that is to say "Works against , not BODY." And there were options for EGO, CON, INT, and more. For the life of me, I can't remember WHERE. The "against EGO" section is mentioned in the FRED, but none of the others are. And that's a lot of books to comb through page by page. HeroGurus, Assemble!
  9. Not sure if this is -quite- a rules question, but it's definitely a Steve question. Pg 89 of Atlantean Age refers to a Language Familiarity chart that doesn't seem to exist in the book. Could we get that info/errata?
  10. First, my apologies, this isn't a simple, clear-cut question, so I'm setting up a scenario to explain, and hopefully learn if I've misread a rule or the situation exists as it looks like it does. Situation: Start of combat, Phase 12, Turn 1. Participant A (henceforth called Aggressor): Fire Blaster with (among other) attacks, a One-Hex AoE, reasonably high damage. Participant B (henceforth called Target): Martial Artist. High DCV, low Defenses. Both participants have the same SPD. Aggressor's DEX is one point higher than Target's. The fight begins. Aggressor is always going to go in the same Phases as Target. Aggressor is always going to go before Target. Because Target has low-defenses, if he gets hit, by mathematical average, he's out of the fight. Aggressor attacks Target with the AoE. In order to not instantly be out of the fight, Target's only choice is to Dive For Cover. However, Dive For Cover counts as an Attack Action, which means that after Diving, Target cannot move, cannot counterattack. Further, he's considered prone. (And this is all IF he makes his Dive For Cover roll). Next Phase: Rinse and repeat. Since Aggressor always goes first, and goes on the same Phases, and Dive For Cover is an Attack Action, Target will never get to take any actions. Because each Phase, all he can do is choose to be hit, or try to Dive For Cover, which instantly ends his Phase. The question is simple...am I reading this right? It seems like a huge abuse to me, and so instinct says I'm misunderstanding something...but I've been over and over the rules, and it -looks- like what I stated above is how it works.

  12. It's a "how would you" post. Basically, I'm writing up a species that has a Borg-like collective consciousness. The net effects I'm looking for are: A) Members of this species can all communicate telepathically at any time, over a planet's distance. Mind Link gets me closest here, except it's hellishly expensive, given the number of minds involved, plus you need LOS to establish, and that isn't the case here...the link simply is there as long as they're alive. Information can be shared freely among the collective. So if someone needed to know "Who's the President of the U.S. in 1841", as long as even one of them knew the answer, the question could be transmitted to the collective and the answer received. Any ideas on this? I can do it with Mind Link, and a VPP for Knowledge skills, but I'm wondering if that's the best way.
  13. Steve, A question has arisen regarding STR Minimum. According to FRED: "Conversely, a character can add 1 Damage Class to a melee weapon's damage for every 5 full points by which his STR exceeds the STR Minimum (up to a maximum of twice the weapon's Damage Class)" I have a character with a 1d6 HKA (a sword), with STR Min 10. The character has a STR 15. I would interpret this that he gets +1 DC to the sword, thus doing 1d6+1. The other viewpoint, as per Dan Simon (this is to resolve a HD matter...) is: Poorly phrased, since they can also add 1DC for every 5 STR up to the STR Minimum as well....otherwise there is no point in the additional "Adder" to the Limitation for "STR Minimum does not add to/subtract from damage. The character has a 15 STR. The STR used to meet the STR Minimum still adds into damage, just like normal. STR Minimum just means that the character will suffer minuses to OCV/DCV if he doesn't have the requisite STR. The character would be doing 2d6 killing damage (max) with the sword. Just like HD is telling you. So, O Great Hero Guru...which is the case?
  14. Hey, folks...I'm looking to create a large number of NPC's (specifically, I'm trying to make all the students in my world's version of the Ravenswood Institute). What I would like is a chart that details a random race/ethnicity for a student. Does anyone know of such a chart online for NPC generation?
  15. Not quite...the question is more a matter of...where is the threshold of being -able- to realize it's an illusion. Example: Professor Xavier is in Alkalai Lake when he's zapped by Mastermind. He's suddenly in a mental illusion of being at the X-Mansion. His reaction isn't "How in the world did I end up at the mansion!" I.E., he doesn't believe he's been teleported, he's clearly been affected by the illusion to the extent he -doesn't even question- the reality with which he's presented. Much as with the Mind Control modifier of Target not realizing they've been Mind Controlled...does Mental Illusions assume this as a base level? If I'm fighting EvilMan and we're the only two people in the room, and suddenly there's a Mental Illusion of an agent holding a gun to the head of a civilian...does the target of the Illusion -realize- there's anything odd about the sudden appearance of agent and civilian? Or does the power, since it's one's own brain creating the image, force one to "gloss over" the implausibility of the situation and react to it as if it is logical reality?
