  1. Re: Musings on Random Musings

My wife has made 100s of this recipe: (She doesn't put the nuts on, hence the ick comment)

Brownies from 365 Great Chocolate Desserts by Natalie Haughton

Without a doubt - the best brownies ever. Very chocolatey, not very sweet.

    Ingredients:

5 (1 oz) square unsweetened chocolate, cut up

    2 sticks butter

    1 3/4 C sugar (I only use 1 1/2C)

    1/4 C light corn syrup

    2 tsp. vanilla

    4 eggs

    1/4 tsp salt

    1 C sifted flour

3/4 C chopped pecans (I NEVER use nuts)

    1 C semisweet chocolate chips

    1. Preheat oven to 350F. In a 2 quart glass bowl, combine unsweetened chocolate and butter. Heat in a microwave oven on High for 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 minutes, or until chocolate is melted and smooth when stirred.

    2. with a fork, beat in sugar, corn syrup, vanilla and eggs until well blended. Mix in salt and flour until well mixed.

    3. Spread evenly in a greased, foil lined (and I grease the foil as well) 9 X 13 inch baking pan. Sprinkle nuts (ick) and chocolate chips over top. Bake 30 - 35 minutes, or until set. Do not overbake. Let cool before cutting into bars. (What I do - when they're cool, life the whole thing out by the foil, and then cut. You can then sort of peel them off the foil. Much easier.)

One of my roommates made a blueberry cheesecake. It was awesome. So was his chocolate "sticky cake".

My wife has been making cheesecakes and other items for a lot of people lately. She's expecting a lot of orders for thanksgiving. (One needs to be in town, or in a spot that one of us is visiting soon.)

Okay. Obviously I was being satirical as a rebuttal to two others who chose to bring politics into this thread in a negative and insulting manner.

But now I am curious why you state that skin color does matter in politics? I thought politics was about policy and issues, things IMO far deeper and more important than the level of melanin in a person's skin.

For some people, the presidential race has been about color. Not on the boards as far as I can tell, but there are plenty of real life examples. (And we should move this topic out of the thread really)

  4. Re: Small Town Superhumans?

Bigger the city, the more crime you have to fight. So, the supers would tend to 'gravitate' there. Even a superteam based in Irvine would find themselves drawn north into Los Angeles*...

But you could have a low power or teen game set in a small town/suburb, easily.

*(Personal pet peeve about Champions Universe: There are more supers in San Fransisco than Los Angeles and San Diego combined. Los Angeles is the nations 3rd largest city by population, and not counting suburbs like Irvine. San Diego is 8th. San Fransisco isn't in the top ten.)

Well, being that Champions was written by SF Bay people, not surprising. Write what you know... And yea, San Francisco isn't that big, but the entire metro area is pretty large, plus covers a lot of different terrain.

  5. Re: In The Cards

I'd agree in principle. But' date=' a one of my characters is fight-crazed enough he'd let him for some extra "fun". And summoned spiders and skeletons would be one of the few things the leader would let him shoot to kill, he cant throw that opportunity away. :sneaky:[/quote']

Oh definitely. And we've had characters similar to that. It's just the presentation even though it's a common trope from the comics to have the leader hang back and then present a bunch of power.

A gang recently robbed Campaign City Bank' date=' making off with a modest sum of cash. Your character and company manage to tail them back to the abandoned warehouse they were using as a hideout, where naturally a fight breaks out. The only member of the gang who doesn't immediately engage you in battle is the ringleader, a strange looking fellow in a black trenchcoat. He is perched on a crate nearby calmly watching you make quick work of the others, [b']I shoot him[/b]all the while shuffling an unusual looking deck of cards. I shoot himOnce all his goons are down for the count, I shoot himhe casually climbs down from crate, I shoot himdraws a hand of five cards from his deck I shoot him and puts the rest of the cards in his shirt pocket I shoot him. He holds up the first of the cards in his handI shoot him, calls out "Hellfire Bastion", I shoot himand a fiery barrier of energy is erected between you and him. I shoot him

Is pretty much what most of my players would be doing. (as well as I myself). Never really into the allowing the main threat get any sort of measure. Definite difference in play style.

  7. Re: The cranky thread

Trivial things to be cranky about:

House sitting, so I have access to her DVD library and TV. She's got some stuff setup on her DISH to record, so I figured I'd watch some DVDs during those periods of time. Apparently her DVD player has an issue about 90% of the way thru a film. Though it might have something to do with specific DVDs, nope. I've now watched 90% of five different films. Will be borrowing some films to watch when I go back home...
