  1. Re: power build question

While I am on this same train of though, how about the same general special affect but in this case it works to entagle somone by cutting of the nuero transmitters from their brain to their body? Is there a way to make it based on the Con value rather than Str, or Ego? Just another loopy question for the night.

    Thanks in advance

  2. Re: power build question

I suggest we muck around with Darkness.

    Darkness Sight 1Hex

Single Target Only (similar to the Accurate aspect of Area Of Effect, only in this case it's a minor Limitation, say -1/2)

Only Affects Target (similar to buying Personal Immunity to the Darkness, but everyone can see inwards, I'll place it at -0 unless I find a compelling reason not to).

I very much like the idea, however I don't know 'single target only' is really a limitation. It would seem to me to be more of an advantage in my scenario. Also mobile might be a good idea to make sure to have since the toxin stays on them. I will definatly have to present this to the Dr.A (GM) and see what he thinks. Good idea.

    La Rose,

  3. Maybe it is because it is getting late for me but I can't seem to find a good way of doing what I want. The only thing I can think of is buying a Major Transform, but I don't know what my target goal for the damage should be.

The power special effect in question is:

A nuero-toxin that has been capsuled so that it will burst on impact letting out a small cloud, that when breathed will neutralize the neuro path ways from the Eyes to the brain. This would render them blind, but I want the effect to last longer than that of a flash would, also I don't want it to be a area of effect like flash either.

Originally I was going to go with a major transform and probably use cumulative to reach my desired target number but was unsure what it should be, or if there is a better way to represent this in the system.

Any and all help is welcomed and appreciated.

  4. Question Solved!!!

EU and VVV are Fifth Edition books' date=' though. Could you possibly be thinking of a Fourth Edition Champions villain? What you describe sounds a lot like [b']The Great Beast[/b] from Creatures of the Night: Horror Enemies. That unscrupulous scientist created artificial tissues that could mimic the cells of living creatures, and be implanted into a body to give it the abilities of the other creature. He could give wings to a dog, a mongoose's reflexes to a human, or a human brain to an animal.

One suggested plot development for the Great Beast was for him to eventually have a powerful animal-composite body replacing his mediocre human one, either as a result of a laboratory accident or a deliberate "upgrade." That might be what you remember.

Ahh that sounds much more like what I am talking about. I was thinking it was in a Fith ed book i found him but I might be mistaken... Ahh and now that I have found a copy of it. Yes the Great Beast is exactly who I was remembering.

Thank you for seeing the unwoven thread between what I said and what I ment Lord Laiden. :celebrate

    And thanks GA aswell.

  5. Hello,

I am trying to remember the name of a certain villian in the book hero book 'Evil Unleashed.' If memory serves me correctly, he was a geneticist who was messing around with the concept of spilcing people and critters together. I believe he failed and was put into a situation where he had to splice himself with a 'thing' in order to survive. Does anyone remember who the character was? I'll try and grab his write up later but it would help me if I just knew 'who' he was.

    Thanks in advance,

    La Rose

  6. Seeing how Thanksgiving is about eleven days away now, and after watching my favorite movie. I feel the urge to do a write up for my favorite hero of all time. And I want to see who others adore and admire. So lets see how many people can try and take a hero of theres, whether in comic books, movies, or other that they realy enjoyed and do write ups for them.

I just finished watching my one of my most favorite movies of all times and equally my most favorite hero. Hudson Hawk as played by Bruce Willis in the movie so named after him. The character is smooth, witty, great at what he does, and suffers from a streak of unluck. What else could one ask for? I am going to hop on HD3 and make a real hero out of him and post it. And I want to see everyone else's aswell. So lets drudge up all those fond memories and start punching those numbers in, so that we can all give thanks to our most favorite heroes of all times!

And on a side note to all that, has anyone ever tied to play there hero in a RPGame? Did it work well or did it just not have the feel you wanted? Was it a great homage or just a sorry imitation? Lets hear your experience with the characters aswell, and even why they are to you what they are.

  7. Re: Munchkin Build Contest?

    Drain PRE instead.

Buy your own PRE to campaign limits, and scare the pee out of them. Literally. (Zero-PRE people can't do anything without making a PRE roll every phase.)

except for pre attacks you get either your EGO or PRE to resist. Which ever is higher. So you would need to take both down at once. You could always just drain INT. Once they hit 0, they can't really do much. And it is hard to imagine what somone with negative INT is capable of.

  8. Re: Munchkin Build Contest?

there is always the One pip body killing, Autofire out to 1280 times with penitrating x10, No range, area of affect, megascale to the size of earth. You could in one shot blow away the entire world. You just have to remember to buy total life support, imortality and 1point of x10 hardened resistanant PD. Seems like a good idea to me.

  9. Re: A Pattern Savant

Some of these ideas bring me back to the second season of Dark Angel. There was another breed of adapted children that was alter to be able to accuratly predict anything. It was a strange ability. But he used it to amazing effect. If I think about it when I get home, I'll see if I cant find it on the net.

  10. Re: Where is Hero?

I've been on the opposite end of the ray and its no picnick here either. It turns out the opposite of money is time. So while I am doing well money wise I haven't the time to even perform a zero phase action. :-(

Speaking as someone who has been on both ends of the specturm. I much prefer No time to No money. After all you will eventually be able to 'free up time.' It is much harder to 'free up money.' Well unless you intend to commit some felonies. :sneaky:

  11. Re: Logic v Balance

Going on the idea that She could reasonably change powers on her turn to slam into the target. Also assuming that any accumulated velocity(speed + direction) is maintained in doing so. Once she changes, she would(base mostly on how 'big' she gets) be suffering from major drag forces that she wouldn't have had time to get use to. Ie, if she was falling she would slowly be introduce to wind resistance, based on her overall surface area, but not in this case. So it is more than reasonable to allow her continue with the attack but at the sever -16 OCV ('freefall' 0 OCV and the -16 from velocity). If by chance she rolls a crit hit, the stunt works. But otherwise she willl just simply take a major hit from: Increased drag, and movethough impact with the Earth.

And on a simular note, I have never seen anyone who can preform a successful movethough on the Earth. Well not that isn't near cosmic levels.

  12. Re: Surviving fall from orbit

I would require some LS as well LS:High Pressure/Vacuum (for the bends)

I don't think you would worry about 'the bends' in the case. Becuase it is the result of moving from high preasure, where Nitrogen and other gases compress into your body, to areas of low preasure to quickly. Cuasing the aformentioned Nitrogen to rapidly reform into its gas state and, essentially 'boil' out.

And as a side note to the minus 70 degrees C survival idea. If you want to know what it would be like to survive that temp, here is how to simulate it. Fill your fridge full of Dry Ice till it adjust temp and stand in there(w/ some form of air supply, otherwise you will suffocate). Dry ice is about -80C. If you can still feel your toes and fingers after 10minutes, you might be able to survive the atmospheric temp.

  13. Re: How many points does a person have?

Well after hearing the arguments back and forth. And taking into account what 'I' know of my player party and reading though HH. I decided to create 7 simple 10pt characters that had unique skill sets and stats. Each seemed reasonable to fit the character concepts, such as 'cop,' 'ex-con,' 'Librarian,' 'Singer,' 'GOD.' Okay I'm joking about the last one. But I managed to get them all to fit and be rather balanced to eachother. Although you can't see much variance in stats (they all range from 7 on the lowest, to one 13 on the highest) they have a wide veriety of skills that help define them. I think it will work out well this way, and I don't have to deal with the issue of "well I'm built on more points than Joe!" Nor do I have to deal with the issue of killing my friends or them feeling personally insulted by it.

Just wanted to let you all know what it was I decided after boning(ha ha! Skeletons, get it? Its a HH game, okay I understand my humor needs work. But my Horor is still top of my food chain!) up on other peoples experiences.

    La Rose

    Thank you for you help.

PS. I find that for building 'norms' in hero, 10 pts is a good standard. Zero base and 10pts from disads.

  14. Re: Munchkin powers on legal active point costs

+75 PRE. Guarantees +30 PRE against pretty much everything and PRE attacks don't have to roll to hit.

Also it is a "Free Action." It doesn't have the limitations that a "zero phase" have. Zero phase can only be done on your turn and only once per power/ability. Free actions can be off turn and done as many times as you desire.

    La Rose

  15. Re: Munchkin powers on legal active point costs

Teleportation 1", Position Shift, x2 Increased Mass, Uncontrolled (+1/2), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Continuous (+1), Usable As Attack (+1) (48 Active Points); Must Pass Through Intervening Space (-1/4)

The above power is ment to be use on an opponent to cuase them to "teleport" where they are but face down. It will cuase the target to be prone to any attacks coming at him.

Possible rationals for this power would be:

The Judo Master: So keen to tossing his oppents town before him, he doesn't even give it a second thought. The appropriate Defenses would be FF(special F/X, ie cant touch your opponent), Massive size difference, and the oponent is also of "black belt" level.

Tricky Teleporter: This person is capable of forcing his powers on to others that he simply teleports them where they are but in a face down position. The appropriate defenses would be FF(like above) and the Teleportation power.

I would also recomend a limitation such as "must remain in contact with subject" to better rationalize the Conitinus advantage for the Judo Master. Also might not be a bad idea for the Tricky Teleporter.

  16. Re: To Create a Sin

    Hey there everyone.

My final "chapter" of the campaign I've been running for the past three years is coming up soon and I'm in some serious need of some help.

The main villians are a group of pure evil, sent from hell its self to destroy all of man kind, and bring souls the the "darker side" of life.

This groups name; The Deadly Seven.

Each villian has traits based off the sins in which they were created.

    For example:

~The character Lust doesn't have a lot of STR but her COM and Ego are high. Her combat style is to confuse the enemy into thinking what they see before them is someone they lust after, an NPC or even another player, while the rest of the Deadly Seven (D7) attack full force.

~Envy steals characteristics from the enemys that he finds most useful. "What I want, I Take" So large ammounts of Drains and such. Makes himself strong while the enemy suffers.

    My problem is this.

After days and days of trying to come up with something, I've yet to come up with a character design for the sin Greed. Seeing how Greed is mostly to do with greed in the form of money, or even the trickey of authority, its hard to make a character around it. (Wikipedia didn't help much either)

    I'm completely stumped.

What kind of powers would you throw on a character like that? I'm intrested in knowing what you all think and HOPEFULLY some of you can help me get the ball rolling.

Any and all help would be so awesome.

    ~Thanks

    ~~DR

Now when it comes to me I would see Greed and Envy in opposite rolls then you have them. Greed I see as being the more, as you said, "what I want, I Take." While Evny is probably the mastermind. Mostly becuase it is easy to rationalize all the seven sins to ultimately be envy. And I would seperate them into Active Sins and sinful states of being. Greed/Glutony/Lust are the active incarnations of Envy. While Wrath/Pride/Sloth are the states of being one settles into becuase of Envy.

Greed & Glutony & Lust: In the active forms you covet what others have and desire it for yourself. If you envy the wealth of another then you seek to own like him. If you wish to consume without need or worry like another, then you envy there glutony. Lustful passion is more than a phisical desire but a emotional draw to that which is out of your grasp. It isn't wanting the girl, it is wanting to be the guy the girl is with(or vice versa). So Envy is in this sense, the person that owns all, consumes everything, and is the consort/master of lust(and I mean the incarnation not just the sin).

Now there are three states of being when it comes to envy. And by "states of being" I am refering to your exceptance of who you are.

1.) Wrath is the anguish you feel when you can't achive what you deisre. It is the disappointment in yourself at your inadequaties compare to others. So you seek to destroy what you envy, to remove your pain and hatred. Or even the loss of what you did have and no longer have. You envy yourself that way.

2.) Pride is the twist of Wrath. It is the self assurence and confidence you feel when you achive what everyone else has. But the desire to keep it and never be less than others is what really drives them. The desire not to envy others anymore. So you hold to yourself all your accomplishments and things, for they define you.

3.) Sloth is the Twist of Pride. It is the feeling of acceptance that comes with knowing you can't keep up with others. It is learning that you will always be less and therefor never doing anything to alter it. But becuase you don't balance it with a little envy, so as to keep to a minimual standard you fall prey to sloth. You allow yourself to live in squaller and discontent.

Now I find myself seeing ENVY as being a pridefull persona. He has achieve all that one can and will do everything to keep it. That is why he does as his masters tell him. All the while ploting to overthough even them and become sole ruller of Hell. Also I can easily forsee the incarnation of Greed as being the one that in the end betreys Envy. He seeks the power that Envy has and will achive it at all cost, but untill now, untill he ran into the player party, he just couldn't grasp it. But he could turn on everyone and help the heros who are about to fail and slay the weakened Envy and usurp his power. With the change in the command stucture the PC managed to catch there breathe intime to slay Greed, the only remaining incarnation of evil.

But that is my Personal views on the Seven Deadly Sins and there relations to eachother.

  17. Re: How many points does a person have?

The perfect' date=' the ultimate number of points is obviously 42.[/quote']

:thumbup:hmmm... I do believe your right on the money there. I do think I will do it with 42pts. But thanks again to everyone.

Now my next question is. Although I like the people I am giong to propose this to, and think it should run smoothly. Have anyone of you had experience witht this? Are there any common issues you have(in game, after the character build) with players? Are there any pitfalls that I should look out for?

  18. Re: How many points does a person have?

Unless you are really exceptional it is hard to justify more than 25 points plus 25 points of disadvantages. In fact that is being generous since normal every day people are more usually built on 0 plus a few points from disadvantages. If any of your group happen to be real-life commandos, Olympic athletes, or the like you could get into the 50 + 50 disadvantages range.

One of the funnest games I ever ran was with normal people (0 + 25 points of disadvantages) going up against zombie hordes. Few points does not mean that the game has to be boring.

I certainly agree with you on everything. But as a side note Dr. Anomoly use to have a build of himself that his old player group helped him make. He costed, I think 120ish points. And although there could be a little trimming it seemed very reasonable. Granted I know others that I could probably build on less than 0 points as well just to be generous.

And yes a low power campaign can be serious fun.

  19. Hello everyone,

Every once and a while I get the notion to run a campaign with my friends where they play, well themselves. I usually do this with the intent to move them from themselves into being something extraordnary. Something like the Old DnD show. Well anyway my question is for those out there that have tried something to this effect before with there friends. How many points did they build themselves on? I was curious about this aspect, and wanted to settle it for myself namely, before bringing it to anyone. How many points? At first I thought about not worry about points and have them do there right ups with no bounds (other than realism)afterall not everyone is created equal :nonp:. And then just as the game progressed maintain equallity after the build*(ie same value toys and exp, just like a normal game). Has anyone tried this? Have there been any revelations on how best to go about this that I might want to know ahead of time? Anyway I was just curious what others have done out there, and what seems to of worked.

    Thank you
