  1. Re: shrinking characters

I've played a character with body-morphing powers, including shrinking, growth, and stretching in the same multipower. His name was Bingo the Clowno. Unfortunately I only played him in a short-term game, and a convention game. The Shrinking was used to sneak up on an enemy before switching to growth and getting one attack on them from surprise.

As a GM, I've written up, but never used a character with shrinking. I _have_ used one villain that was permanently an inch tall though. He was more of a mastermind than a direct combatant, but when he had to engage in combat, he had a toy plane he flew around in.

  2. Re: Here's the scenario

Mr. Blackwings, having seen him, lets him run away. But then he will simply have all the crows in the city eventually wear him down wherever he may run. ( Unless he manages to get inside someplace a murder of crows cannot follow )

Of my PCs, he is the only one whose usual modus operandi is well suited to the task. N-Ray with scads of telescopic vision and rapid ( see through the eyes of all crows ), and his main attack powers being Line of Sight, Area of Effect, Indirect ( And low dice with reduced penetration. )

  3. Re: Cat Up a Tree

Bingo the Clowno would reach up, extending his extendo-arms to grab the cat and bring it down. He would then proceed to struggle with the cat, roll about flailing helplessly as the cat refuses to remove its claws from his rubbery-hands. They would tumble around on the ground with a great deal of hissing ( from the cat ) and ouching ( from Bingo ), until the dust clears, Bingo is tied up in his own limbs, and the cat is cleaning its hind legs.

  4. Re: What power ideas/concepts do you get from these code names?

I'm working on a villain team from an unusual inspiration and I hoped to get some suggestions for possible powers and concepts from their future codenames.

    Code Red

    Pitch Black

    Livewire

    Throwback

    White Out

    Voltage

    Supernova

    Revolution

    Ultraviolet

Code Red: Highly-trained almost-normal, former special forces, lots of weapons. Danger sense.

Pitch Black: Slightly elastic demi-brick with a sticky tar-like body.

Livewire: Datacenter technician who in an accident during an electrical storm was fused to the massive bundles of wires. Computo/electrokinetic with a body made of wires.

Throwback: Similar to Beast, an agile bestial demi-brick. Genetic researcher whose body ( but not mind, of course ) 'devolved' during an experiment-gone-wrong.

White Out: Ice and snow powers, can create great blizzards.

Voltage: While Livewire can control electronics and, through them manifest some electrical powers, Voltage can manifest pure electricity from nothing. Powerful EB.

Supernova: Brick with explosive hand attacks.

    Revolution: Spinning speedster.

Ultraviolet: Solid-light energy projector, similar to Green Lantern.

  5. Re: Tactile Metal Control powers

Given that this is a touch range power, as described, the simplest and most flexible method would simply be 3d6 HKA only vs. Metal. Assuming the GM will allow it, this brick character would be doing 6d6 killing against metal foci and metal characters ( safe assumption the brick has at least 45 STR ), and their normal hand attack damage against everyone/thing else.

  6. Re: Help me Populate a Cirque de Hero!

    Another take on the Clowns.

Duplicating gadgeteer, where each duplicate is a different clown with a different gadget. One carries a stack of pies, one has the perenial lapel flower, one has a horn, one juggles on a unicycle, and the main one has to control and focus them all purely with pantomime and mimicry.

  7. Re: Need another name for Juggernaut...

I thought about those for the list I gave earlier' date=' but didn't include them amongst others, as I was assuming he wanted an unstoppable force style name vs. an immovable object style name.[/quote']

And those four sound rather more... heroic... than a Juggernaut-type name ought.

  8. Re: Kill, jail, or rehabilitate, what happens to your villains?

The way I tend to run things as GM is the villains that the PCs _WANT_ to kill and have the opportunity to try to kill, tend to be those that are inherently unkillable due to their powers or nature. Those the PCs might want to kill and _are_ killable, also have some of the best evasion possible and are perfectly willing to flee when things turn against them. Those that are killable and don't have phenomenal methods of escape are generally those who are just in it for the cash, and thus aren't gleefully firebombing daycare centers or the like.

If I make a villain that breaks with type, being both killable, murderous, and without nefarious escape plans, I don't expect them to last more than one plotline with the PCs.

Historically, all three have happened to villains at one point or another depending on the PCs, the particular villain and circumstances. I should note that my world doesn't have generic 'power supressors', requiring something specific to be created and tailored based on a given villains power set, often giving time for the villain to escape before something is created for them. But often they just sit there until broken out by someone who isn't incarcerated.

  9. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

*sighs* They just did. And even in that avatar a failed Sanity check would have cost them d100 SAN. Did it faze them in the slightest? No. Apart from Rondale's habit of rubbing himself against machine guns' date=' and even that didn't last. The party is no longer 'The Travelling Library' anymore, they're the bloody Untouchables.[/quote']

Help them succeed then. =-D Give them more knowledge.

And with more Mythos lore, their maximum sanity keeps going down and down...

  10. Re: Back to Normal ?

    Bingo would cry.

And nothing is sadder than a crying clown.

And then he would use his skills as the world's greatest clown detective to find out exactly what happened and restore the universe to the way it ought to be.

Arc Angel doesn't have powers, just powered wings and a special body harness. He would make new ones and then go about finding out what happened.

Mr. Blackwings would be both dismayed and overjoyed. Overjoyed that perhaps Hugin and Munin are finally done with him and will allow him to die. Dismayed that he is probably being messed with by some villain, and being blind without being able to see through the eyes of crows, would have considerable trouble tracking down the culprit.

  11. Re: Looking for playability criticisms

Ah' date=' but see here's the problem. If you allow people to be invisible to the mental group, and just add INvisibility to sight, no one will ever play a mentalist again.[/quote']

Depends on the mentalist. Also depends on if you allow the mentalist an attack roll using a 'non-targeting sense'.

  12. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

But You are a paragon of gaming...mere mortals find that onerous (I used to commute 1 hour each way for gaming' date=' thats likely my limit though...)[/quote']

Well, I once had to commute one hour each way to pick up a player for a game at my own house that I was running.

    ( She was hawt. )

  13. Re: Have you ever built the same character more than once?

This is *exactly* the situation I'm in' date=' and wondering if I have to do anything about it. Heck, with some of them, I could just use the same writeup twice with different names. So... your advice is just go with the flow and not worry about it?[/quote']

Pretty much, yeah. If you want to differentiate them, tweak each one a little. Have one be in a team, and the other be a loner. Or give one about 25 more xp and call them the more experienced villain of the two.

  14. Re: Have you ever built the same character more than once?

With PCs, no. Even if I had two characters with similar power sets ( not yet ), they would have different enough backgrounds, personalities, details and play styles to keep them well seperated.

With NPCs/Villains, I accept redundancy and even embrace it. With at least 5,000 superpowered NPCs in the world, there is bound to be a great deal of overlap. ( Assuming the prototypical 1 in 1,000,000 distribution ) It allows rivalries and teamups between villains of similar builds. A group of the world's 'living flame' types could make for an interesting encounter. Though in all honesty, when just sitting down to fill out the NPCs of my world, I start with figuring out things that I am missing and going from there. But sometimes a name pops out at me demanding a certain concept/power set which is already represented.

  15. Re: Have we ever seen the Hawken again?

That particular race/culture/location was not carried over into the Fifth Edition Champions Universe' date=' nor is it part of the Sixth Edition. However, there is an official humanoid avian race, called (pragmatically enough) the [i']Birdpeople[/i], who dwell on a mist-shrouded island/city called Thaar in the Indian Ocean.

"Birdpeople"? Should have called them Garuda.

  16. Re: Pcs and the presidency

This discussion makes me want to run a Super Sentai game with the PCs as the executive branch of the government.

Super Executive Team Hyper Task Force Go!

Advised by the Joint Chiefs, the President, VP, Secretary of State and Chief of Staff fight against injustice and threats to the United States from out of its borders, and out of this dimension! When they combine their forces, the can call on the powers of the White House, which transforms into a gigantic mecha which fires lasers from the marble columns.

Needless to say, it would be rather silly.

  17. Re: Icons - The Costume and Superpowers Store

love.gif Where do I sign up? (I'm assuming superwomen my own age might look as appealing?)

If they're playing an RPG how about Icons and Infamy©?

How about Icons and Iconoclasts? Iconoclasts would be a decent name for such a store for those on the 'rougher' end of the moral spectrum.

  18. Re: Mentor Wanted

My hero is still getting beat up by the Qulaar, and I;m trying to figure out how to deal with it. Kaishaku is a Level 3 (untrained) Dual Blade user who's having trouble with Bugkeeprs in the Rescue the Vivilians quest (I think it has a different name, but that's what I recall).

Is there a way for a hero with no ranged attacks to deal with these problems?

Pick up a garbage can/bench/whatever you are strong enough to pick up, lead with that, then run up and beat them until they fall down.

And don't forget to block when they get one of those symbols above their head.
