Re: Heat absorption
How much potency does his heat absorption have? Instead of _just_ cooling off hot things, how about cooling off room-temperature things since they still have Heat, being above 0 Degrees Kelvin...
Or to put it another way, Energy Blast NND ( safe env: Cold ), 0 End + linked END Aid.

Re: Bring in the clones
If the clone is never active at the same time as you are alive, it is not, in any way, duplication.
Just a triggered, ranged Regeneration+Resurrection with one recoverable charge ( Charge takes extra time to recover, for however long it takes to make a new clone ).

Re: Would you play a game with pre-generated characters?
I have no issue with pre-gens.
I have no issue playing random characters either.
I pretty-much consider pre-gens to be random characters that are guaranteed not to suck.
As long as I can choose the pre-gen for a personality I could best play, create the personality myself, or there is some other thing letting me really connect with the character, then it is all good.

Re: Thoughts about Vibora bay
Since Cryptic stated several times that anything that impacted gameplay would be free or capable of being earned in-game, I am horribly disappointed.
So much so that if I were a monthly subscriber, I would have canceled my subscription. But since I bought a Lifetime Subscription, I have no choice but to deal with it. At least if there is _some_ free content added later, it will be effortless for me to return and check it out.
In the meantime, I'm playing City of Heroes more.

Re: My Players looted the room
The best way, I've found, to warn new players about this essential gameplay difference, is to remind them that they cannot actually keep anything they loot unless they spend points on it.
Or just flat out say, "You are superheroes. That's not the genre we're playing in."
Or did everyone make a Catwoman type vigilante? In which case it is Roleplaying and totally in character.

Re: Homage to Thor
5d6 Line, or 18d6 Penetrating hand to hand attack... ( 12d6 from STR, +6d6 HtH, Penetrating on the HtH applies to the STR damage too )

Re: Waking up with not-so-super powers
The power to project wind at 150mph in a three foot cone in front of you.
You could be Leaf-blower Man!

Re: Son's first character
Is there a reason you went with an EC for his attacks rather than a Multipower? I'm not sure what type of campaign he's in and this may be by design, but are you aware that with a 10 STR and Offensive Strike Martial Manuver can take him out? Anyone with a 6d6 Physical Attack, and this character has very little chance for survival. 6d6 Averages 21 STUN per hit. Take out the 8 PD and that's 14 STUN per hit. Compare that to your 10 CON and every hit CON stuns him.Again this may be standard in the campaign world, so it's no problem, but if you look at the "typical" 5th ed character in the Champions game world, these don't match up very well.
I would hazard to guess that the defenses were simply overlooked. An EC is necessary for this character, as almost all of the powers in the EC except for the attacks can be used simultaneously. And the three 'attack powers' would waste points by being moved into a Multipower. Granted if an OIHID is added, or a few more points are added to the character for another slot, the Multipower would become much more worthwhile.

Re: Son's first character
Forgot to buy defenses.
I'd drop one of the two attacks to start, and put in a 27ED 27PD Force Field, Protects Carried, 1/2 End. 80 Active Points, 4 END
And the character would still be very fragile with only 6 DCV, 10 CON and BOD. It would be very worthwhile to put something like Only in Heroic ID on the powers and elemental control. Then you can afford both attacks, force field, as well as some more stats.

Re: The Silver Age
I suppose an important question is, is the game just set during the 'silver age', or is it intended to have a silver age tone?
You can easily have a rusty iron, bronze age, or modern amalgam style game set in '66.

Re: New players, gm, UMA Charge and 34d6 damage
I don't necessarily agree. It's a feature of some superhero sub-genres' date=' but not all. And there are differences between a villain escaping from gaol, or a villain coming back after his body was never recovered from that blazing chemical fire. But a baddie defeated fair and square to just pop back up again? That runs the risk of creating an air of futility about the game, that nothing the players do will ever make any difference to the campaign world.[/quote']Are villains being executed, or knocked out and arrested?
Does the setting have people with resurrection powers either mystic, or scientific?
Cloneing the villain is not a cop-out if the setting has been established as having that as an option.
Running a game without full knowledge and understanding of the rules is a perfect method of gaining a knowledge and understanding of the rules as long as your players are willing to allow for the changes and adjustments that come from the process. I first picked up Hero with 5th edition. And to help myself learn the rules, I ran a cosmic level game, starting with 700 points after disads. It was complex, hair-pulling, fun, and highly educational. I recommend it. It taught me many things to never allow in a game...
It definitely sounds like an error in adding up the dice. 18d6 + 30"/5 d6 is nowhere near 34d6.

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...
I'm horrible at remembering to write down quotes. Only if someone mentions that it should be written down does anything generally get noted...
Valour - Sentient emotion made manifest.
Dr. Mystic - Dr. Strange style mystic styled after the Venture Brothers' Dr. Orpheus.
Caius - Earth elementalist detective.
Sephiroth - Qabbalistic magus.
Me, the GM.
Discussing how to deal with a someone whose help they need that they just learned is a criminal of some special talent.
Dr. Mystic: We could citizen's arrest him, or we could just "hero" him... ... ... into the ground.
Caius: I like how "hero" has been verbed...
Caius: You could tell him that if he is deceitful, he will be "heroed".
Resting up for an early morning to come...
Caius: I'm going to go take a dirt nap.
Fighting a dangerous criminal who happens to be a 90+ year old little lady with a walker and a mumu who mystically controls yarn and knits mind-controlling clothing.
Valour: "Good, we won't be accused of attacking a little old lady because her yarn is attacking the stones."
Me, OOC: "It's a tuque. It tuque over his mind."

Re: My First Hero System Character: Bluebird
Is it? Can you link powers in frameworks to powers in the same framework? Is that new, because I'm pretty sure you couldn't do that in 5th. (Also, which Blast? The compound one or the single one on the line above?)
I think she needs to move either the Blast or the Entangle outside the multipower to make "Linked" legal.
You can link powers in a framework to powers in the same framework _IF_ both powers are in the same slot. I don't have my book in front of me to cite page #'s though.

Re: My First Hero System Character: Bluebird
I'm still working on the skill level concept. From what I can see, it saves 1 point and gives more benefits, so you're probably right about using it.When I imagine an ice bond entangle, I'm stuck on what Mr. Freeze does in BtAS. His cold gun hits a person with ice, which gradually builds up freezing them in place. I've always imagined that must do concussive force damage at the same time as entangling. Your conception, though, works perfectly well for imagining a non-blast entangle.
I wouldn't give up on the Entangling Blast, but one of the main 'issues' and balancing factors of Multipowers is the difficulty in putting compound powers in one and having all powers in the slot be effective.
Other possibilities of an Entangling Blast on 75 active points:
7d6 Blast + 4d6 Entangle 4 PD/4 ED. This is still enough to slow down most non-bricks and still have a chance to do damage.
7d6 Blast + 2d6 Entangle 3 PD/3 ED Does not protect against some attacks ( Cold ), so if they don't break out before your next action, you can keep blasting them and stacking on more Body worth of entangle ( Though the 3 PD/ED stay the same )

Re: My First Hero System Character: Bluebird
Regarding the Entangling Ice Blast, a 4d6 Blast will almost never do damage to anyone, including agents. Max on the dice is 24, with an average of 14 stun. To at least make most people feel it, I would recommend changing it to a 'Blast 3d6 Penetrating' which should still fit in the multipower, and will, on average, sneak 3 stun through any target that doesn't have hardened defenses ( or whatever the 6e version is called ).

Re: I'm building a gold dragon on 350 points
UpdateI lowered his strength to 50 to make room for other bricks to be stronger than him.
The game has a 12d6 limit.
I've made the armor ablative when body gets past it's defense
that's six points down from 25.'
Sunset now has 10 points left to spend
any ideas?
It would be easy to give him 10 points of Mental Defense as an 'Ancient and Inscrutable Mind', or 10 points of Power Defense from being an 'Ancient Magical Creature', or 5 points in each.

Re: Susano's Song-Based DC NPCs
Here's a song with an interesting character as subject matter...
Black Wings by Tom Waits
(Tom Waits/K. Brennan)
Take an eye for an eye
Take a tooth for a tooth
Just like they say in the Bible
Never leave a trace or forget a face
Of any man at the table
When the moon is a cold chiseled dagger
Sharp enough to draw blood from a stone
He rides through your dreams on a coach
And horses and the fence posts
In the midnight look like bones
Well they've stopped trying to hold him
With mortar, stone and chain
He broke out of every prison
Boots mount the staircase
The door is flung back open
He's not there for he has risen
He's not there for he has risen
Well he once killed a man with a guitar string
He's been seen at the table with kings
Well he once saved a baby from drowning
There are those who say beneath his coat there are wings
Some say they fear him
Others admire him
Because he steals his promise
One look in his eye
Everyone denies
Ever having met him
Ever having met him
He can turn himself into a stranger
Well they broke a lot of canes on his hide
he was born away in a cornfield
A fever beats in his head like a drum inside
Some say they fear him
Others admire him
Because he steals his promise
One look in his eye
Everyone denies
Ever having met him
Ever having met him

Re: Time related powers
For Frozen in Time, I think EDM Usable as Attack, with a defined fairly short distance into the future, a minute or less, being prefered. Add a limitation similar to Visible, if its usable on yourself, so that everyone knows you're there and going to reenter the timestream at some point. For added fun, add Physical Manifestation and Sticky, so that those trying to interact with the targets frozen in time are also stuck in time until the destination moment.
To step outside of time, I like a nice basic 360 degree rapid telescopic N-Ray for sight, plus enough teleport (Must pass through intervening space) to get to the limit of your time outside time.
If you want to be able to move things when stepped outside of time, then you should figure out what the most common uses of this would be and model those. Missile Deflection+Reflection, AoE Telekinesis, AoE Selective Entangles based on available materials, etc.

Re: I'm building a gold dragon on 350 points
Does the dragon really need a megahex of space (1000km) to fly? Because that would be worth at lot more than -1/2. I'm guessing you meant "Radius 1 Area" - a hex and all the hexes around it.Also, what does "swimming + freeaction" in the Multipower mean?
I agree on the "12' long dragon" disadvantage being worth the full 20, but I'm not sure that "gold scales" merit a second Distinctive Feature beyond already being a dragon. It is easier to identify - which only matters if there are other dragons in the setting - but at least they shouldn't have the "extreme reaction" component, unless somehow people react more extremely to a gold-scaled dragon than to other dragons.
I think the "swimming + freeaction" is supposed to be Environmental Movement: Underwater.
Perhaps instead it should just by the appropriate environmental movement, and get a -1/4 Not Usable Underwater on the whole breath weapon multipower, bringing it from 75 to only 60 real points.

Re: Lame or awesome?
Funny you should use that example. I'm creating a character with the ability to summon packs or rats. They provide him such powers as Tunneling, Clairsentience, and Armor. (How creepy would a cloak of rats be?)I've got something similar, except its Crows ( and related birds ).
Lame: I can see through the eyes of crows, and direct them.
Awesome: I can simultaneously see every outdoor location in the city through the eyes of crows (+20 telescopic, 360deg, N-Ray, x1000 rapid). And in combat whole murders of crows will follow my commands. ( CE, or AoE EB )

Re: Teen superhumans but no adult ones
Makes me think of putting together a world where people only get superpowers during puberty, and then it wears off between the ages of 18-25 about the time they stop growing.
