  1. Re: Solo adventures.

Do you mean just you and the GM? Or trying to play by yourself? :)

Just you and GM I can recommend the old Viper's Nest scenario and The Island of Doctor Destroyer. Although you may need to be a bit more than 350pts for the last one solo.

Or just use one of the many random plot generators and go with that.

  2. Re: CHA: Kai Sun - Fist of Heaven

If the MP is your 'martial arts'' date=' why have it with extra time? Would this make you act last on your phase?[/quote']

Well, the character does have normal MA as well, and uses those often.

The MP is special moves and what not.

As far as going last, the way we play it is that Full Phase means I can do the slot on my phase, but nothing more, and it goes off on my DEX. This is in accordance with the rules under Extra Time - Full phase, 5ER, p291.

  3. Re: CHA: Kai Sun - Fist of Heaven

Im curious how much damage you expect these low cost advantaged HAs to do when combined with str and MA.

By the rules they can do up to 8D6 most times, 6D6 for the righteous fury slot, and lots for the Power Strike slot (14D6 Offensive Strike or Haymaker, 18D6 if GM lets me combine both). For the sake of ease the GM and I have agreed that MA maneuvers don't add to or combine with the advantaged HAs.

The game is a pretty low powered one too, so I was trying to limit myself :) Other variations/build came out doing a LOT more damage.

  4. If you want the Damage Shield to affect an area, you have to buy the appropriate Area Of Effect Advantage for it -- the DS and your STR are separate things.

Do I therefore also have to purchase personal immunity on the damage shield or be affected by it? Or can the hex be defined as starting at the edge of my hex (it is, after all, meant to represent large and blobby fists).

    Thanks again

  5. Hi Steve - hope you are recovered from your oral adventures,

    The question is this:

I have a character with an Offensive Damage Shield.

This character also has STR that effects a hex.

Will the offensive damage shield work as normal

    or

do I have to purchase the area effect advantage on it as well

    or

do I purchase the area effect advantage but only on the Offensive component of the damage shield?

    Thanks

  6. Re: Superhero Comics & D&D Alignments

    I aim to please:D

    Seriously though...

The thread I started about CSL vs Martial arts got me thinking, especially when specific examples formthe comics were used to support various points of views.

Rather than specific alignments, how about what range of alignments have characters in the comics displayed? For example, I reckon the Punisher has ranged from Lawful Evil to Chaotic something (good maybe), depending on the writer/story, your POV about what constitutes good actions, and how you define the lawful/chaotic personal/society oppositions.

    What do you think?

  7. Re: Superhero Comics & D&D Alignments

Isn't there also provision for a character that holds to a strict personal (rather than societal) code to be Lawful? As in monks and such. Therefore Batman sould be Lawful Good alignment.

    Hmmm... neutral.... Deadshot?

The biggest problem with comics as a genre for this type of discussion is that they're oppositional in nature (e.g. Good vs Evil). Neutral characters tend to be rarer.

    Also:

    LG: Nightwing

    NG: The Flash (Wally West)

    CG: Green Arrow

LN: The Parliament of Trees? Swamp Thing?

    N: Sandman/Morpheus/Dream

CN: The Creeper? (with tendency to good)

    LE: Darkseid

NE: Marvel Editorial Staff (No Secret ID for Spidey????)

CE: DC Editorial Staff (Infinite Crisis????)

  8. Re: Another Clarification: Narrative meaning of combat Phase.

To steal an idea from D20/D&D (I can't believe I said that):

I like the thought that those phases are where you take effective action. Sure, you might be doing a lot more other stuff, but when it comes down to it, a SPD 3 character will have 3 effective actions over the course of a turn. They might fire more often, but they really only have 3 real chances to hit.

We also played at one stage that a turn was effectively a minute, so that if PCs who weren't around when a combat started get told "You are five minutes away" that means 5 combat turns, not 25.

  9. Re: Shoot First, Ask later

As others have said, it depends on the genre conventions you want to play out.

I tend to prefer that to say everyone effectively has a held action and when the combat starts, everyone rolls for that first phase. Oh yeah, and I prefer to start at Segment 1 of the Speed Chart. So the benefits are that the players may get the drop on the villain if they beat the initial roll, and they get an extra pahse to do stuff inthe first turn of combat.

Surely that's worth listening to a blowhard talk about how great he is and how you can't possibly blah blah blah..? :)

  10. Re: Question about STUN and BODY

We also used to play it pretty harsh in street level and gritty fantasy genres and apply the same penalties to DEX (i.e. You lose 3 BODY, you lose 3 DEX).

The reasoning was that you get slower, less agile and less able at combat the more hurt you are.

Made players think twice about starting fights :)

  11. Re: more PRE related powers

A good idea' date=' but keep in mind the effects won't occue outside the 1" Radius, so it's a no go from across the room or across the street.[/quote']

    Well actually:

5ER p138 Under Self Only in Change Enviroment Power Description:

"...A character may take this Limitation (together with No Range (-½)) to define a form of Change Environment that only applies its combat effects with respect to attempts to affect or perceive him. The Limitation means the Change Environment doesn’t cover an area, only his person. For example, a character might have a “Stealth Suit” that imposes a -4 Sight PER Roll penalty on attempts to see him..."

So the effects occur whenever someone tries to percieve the character.

My rules fu is strong :D

Also if I recall there was something in the orignial character description about being forgettable? Why not just add negative INT modifiers to the change environment for events surrounding the character or something like that...

Comes to about 40 pts (39 points methinks)

  12. Re: more PRE related powers

Just thought it could also be done using a Change Environment:

Always the Wallflower: Change Environment 1" radius, -4 to Hearing Group PER Rolls, -4 to Sight Group PER Rolls, Multiple Combat Effects, Personal Immunity (+1/4), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Persistent (+1/2) (70 Active Points); No Range (-1/2), Always On (-1/2), Limited Power Self Only (-1/2)

    28pts

  13. Re: I don't have the ultimate brick

All the remaining ideas that come to mind are incredibly disgusting. But remember to get leaping. It's as good as a ranged attack any day.

How about a simple yell? If the brick is about muscles, and vocal cords and breathing are about muscles.... he could yell really loudly. Stun folks that way. A bit like Howler from Wildcards if you want to amp it up.

  14. Re: The Defilers

Thank you - always liked Ghost Rider...

You could upgrade the hell cycle so that it actually has a damaging trail (ala Ultimate Speedster Trail effect)... so that not only does he hit you, but his bike's fire burns you too.

  15. Re: Sure signs that your player doesn't want to be in your 350 pt champions game.

"So, can I get a Multiform that has up to 900 points in it?"

Me: "Are you f***ing kidding me?"

"I'll take the Disads to make up the difference."

Actually it is possible to have a 1000pt multiform if the GM allows you to buy extra points on top of disads. And you don't have to take extra disads.:)

Although your base form would not be very useful.

  16. Re: PRE (or lack there of) question

If she is really easily ignored, then how about Invisibility req PRE roll? But

yeah, if she has no charisma and no one likes her at all, then a low PRE (offensive anyway) is pretty justified.

The question though is why play someone that no one will listen to - not even PCs if they are roleplaying the stat.

  17. Re: PRE (or lack there of) question

PRE can also represent 'likeableness'. Is she likeable? If so then 5 is a bit low IMHO. If she isn't good at persuasion then don't buy the skill. Or buy extra PRE limited to not for PRE attacks or something like that.

As far as the defense goes it really depends on the range in your campaign. If 30 PRE is going to stop her being affected by PRE attacks, then that should do. If PRE is generally higher in your game then your defensive PRE needs to be higher.
