  1. Re: Star Frontiers I agree in principle with the Charges never recovers it just doesnt seem quit right...BUT, there is only 1 injection with a standard pack..so the charge would be 1. The problem I have is that normal Limitation Charges are how many uses PER DAY it can be used..so a charge of 1 means the character gets 1 per day...its never gone..every day it reconstitutes itself for a never ending supply..one injection per day...even if I bump the lim on the time table..eventually..it comes back. I want the injection to be used up and make the character have to do something in game to replenish his supply, and thus..the Charges never recover limitation. What do you think? Am I missing a rule about Charges someplace?
  2. Staydose STAYDOSE: Staydose puts a character to sleep for 24 hours, slows down his heartbeat and breathing, and helps stop bleeding. If a character's BODY has been reduced to O or less, a Staydose injection will stop bleeding and can be given to keep the character alive until he is taken to a hospital. Game Information: Major Transformation, 4d6 (Turns target into sleep-like suspended animated state, Heals back in 24 hours or stimdose injection); Continuous (+1) (120 Active Points); OAF (-1), No Range (-1/2), Limited Target (Living beings)(-1/4), 1 Charge which Never Recovers (-4), Side Effect (see text;-0). Total Cost 18 points. Still not sure about the 1 charge which never recovers
  3. Stimdose STIMDOSE: A Stimdose injection stops bleeding and prevents shock and includes stimulants and immunoboosters to accelerate the body’s natural healing process for 3 hours. However, not only does this make the person receiving the dose extremely hungry and lethargic (the character must rest for 6 hours once the dose effect has worn off), it can have adverse mental effects if used too often. Each dose after the first a character received during a 24-hour period, the GM should roll 3d6. On an 11-, the character loses ½ d6 INT for 6d6 hours. For each use beyond the second, increase the roll by 2 (13-, 15- and so on). A Stimdose injection will not raise a character's current number of BODY or STUN points above his original score. A Stimdose will not revive a character whose BODY has been reduced to 0 or less. It will revive a character that was knocked unconscious by a doze grenade, but will not restore any BODY or STUN points to the character. Game Information: Simplified Healing 2d6 (20 Active Points); OAF (-1), 1 Charge which Never Recovers (-4), Side Effect (see text;-0). Total Cost 3 points. Not sure about the 1 Charge which Never Recovers...
  4. Re: Star Frontiers Seeker Missiles Does anyone have a write up for seeker missles? This is what I have been using but I'm not sure I have covered all the bases. The game assumes 1 hex = 10,000 km by the way and I hope this editor keeps the vehicle layouts right..if not just work with it. Seeker missiles. LTD / RA: 0 / DMG 15d6+1 RKA AP Seeker missiles are placed the same way mines are; the launching player can put them in a hex before a battle begins, or a ship that carries seekers can drop them at any time. Once a seeker missile is placed, it will not move until it is activated. The player that places a seeker can active it at the beginning of his phase on any turn. Immediately after it is activated, the seeker will move two hexes toward the closest ship. On the next phase, the seeker will move four hexes toward the closest ship. It will continue accelerating at the rate of two hexes per turn, and can make an unlimited number of facing changes to keep itself aimed at the nearest ship. Note that the seeker may change targets many times, because a different ship may be closest to it at the beginning of each phase. The seeker cannot tell the difference between friendly and enemy ships, and will always fly toward the closest ship. If two or more ships are an equal distance from the seeker, players should roll a die to determine which ship the missile will aim at. A seeker detonates as soon as it enters a hex containing a ship, or a ship enters the hex containing the activated seeker. If the hex contains more than one ship, the seeker will attack the largest. If the two largest ships are the same size, players should roll a side to determine which ship the missile attacks. On the end of the phase that a seeker moves 12 hexes, it will automatically detonate. If there is no ship within range at that time, the explosion will do no damage. Seekers will not be attracted to planets, moons, asteroids, or space stations. 5. That's a nice start. I do have a question for you. In your game, how often do you award experience and how much XP do you usually award? Going by the standard xp rules it seems to me that will will take a truely LONG time to gain enough xp to mimic some of the classes and abilitied in Forgotten Realms, especially for spellcasters to start to create magic items.
  6. I think I'm going to give up using the NK's look and feel for building spaceships and just go native with HERO's format. The NK system just doesnt convert well. I do want to maintain the NK's look and feel for spaceship combat so I'm going to stick with the original Star Hero format but instead of using THR (thrust) I'm going to limit ships flying movement to Megascale 1" equal's 10,000Kms for normal flight and 1 FTL/Day Jump Speed. Once I work out the narrative I will post here for your review...
  7. Knight Hawks to Hero conversion Based on the above post this is what I've come up with for vehicle SIZE conversions for the KH's base ships: Hull Size: (1) DIMENSIONS*: 10 / 2 Volume(m3): 31.42 Area(m): 69 Vehicle Size: 7 Hull Size: (2) DIMENSIONS*: 30 / 5 Volume(m3): 589.05 Area(m): 511 Vehicle Size: 10 Hull Size: (3) DIMENSIONS*: 50 / 8 Volume(m3): 2513.27 Area(m): 1357 Vehicle Size: 13 Hull Size: (4) DIMENSIONS*: 75 / 12 Volume(m3): 8,482.30 Area(m): 3,054 Vehicle Size: 15 Hull Size: (5) DIMENSIONS*: 100 / 15 Volume(m3): 17,671.46 Area(m): 5,066 Vehicle Size: 16 Hull Size: (6) DIMENSIONS*: 130 / 20 Volume(m3): 40,840.70 Area(m): 8,769 Vehicle Size: 17 Hull Size: (7) DIMENSIONS*: 150 / 25 Volume(m3): 73,631.08 Area(m): 12,763 Vehicle Size: 18 Hull Size: (8) DIMENSIONS*: 180 / 30 Volume(m3): 127,234.50 Area(m): 18,378 Vehicle Size: 19 Hull Size: (9) DIMENSIONS*: 210 / 35 Volume(m3): 202,043.68 Area(m): 25,015 Vehicle Size: 20 Hull Size: (10) DIMENSIONS*: 240 / 40 Volume(m3): 301,592.89 Area(m): 32,673 Vehicle Size: 21 Hull Size: (11) DIMENSIONS*: 270 / 45 Volume(m3): 429,416.45 Area(m): 41,351 Vehicle Size: 22 Hull Size: (12) DIMENSIONS*: 300 / 50 Volume(m3): 589,048.62 Area(m): 51,051 Vehicle Size: 22 Hull Size: (13) DIMENSIONS*: 340 / 55 Volume(m3): 807,782.01 Area(m): 63,499 Vehicle Size: 23 Hull Size: (14) DIMENSIONS*: 380 / 60 Volume(m3): 1,074,424.70 Area(m): 77,283 Vehicle Size: 24 Hull Size: (15) DIMENSIONS*: 420 / 70 Volume(m3): 1,616,349.40 Area(m): 100,060 Vehicle Size: 24 Hull Size: (16) DIMENSIONS*: 450 / 75 Volume(m3): 1,988,039.10 Area(m): 114,864 Vehicle Size: 25 Hull Size: (17) DIMENSIONS*: 475 / 80 Volume(m3): 2,387,610.40 Area(m): 129,434 Vehicle Size: 25 Hull Size: (18) DIMENSIONS*: 500 / 85 Volume(m3): 2,837,250.90 Area(m): 144,867 Vehicle Size: 26 Hull Size: (19) DIMENSIONS*: 540 / 90 Volume(m3): 3,435,331.60 Area(m): 165,405 Vehicle Size: 26 Hull Size: (20) DIMENSIONS*: 600 / 100 Volume(m3): 4,712,389.00 Area(m): 204,204 Vehicle Size: 27 Have I missed something? The Hero system does not handle vehicle dimensions very well..especially if you trying to figure out hex size based on metric volumes. I ultimately went with the 3 square root of the area factored in by the volume for a rough estimate of hex area. Not a fun exercise at all.

  25. SPACESHIP CONTRUCTION QUESTION I've been working on converting the Star Frontiers Knight Hawks ships into the Hero Format and I've run into a number of snaggs that I want to present a major one to you all for your input.. The first one is converting the Knight Hawks "Hull Size Types" into the appropriate Star Hero Vehicle SIZE characteristic. In KH we get a non-linear, arbitrarily assigned, ship length and diameter size given in meters. Since the KH ships are roughly cylinder in shape and are not very large compaired to other Space Opera genre ships...should I simply calculate the Volume of the cylinder, convert that to hexes to find a close match on the Expanded Vehicle Size Table? This seems to make the look and feel of the KH ships much larger in Hero than they were in Star Frontiers. I also looked into calculating the Area of the Cylinder, but this has the same effect as the Volume calculation. Or would you recomend I simple go by the Length of the KH vehicles to match with the appropriate Hero length? This method does not take into account the diamter/volume of the cylinders in KH ships, making them smaller than the look and feel in Star Frontiers. What do you think?
