  1. Re: Running for a Villain Team

First thing you need to do is let the players know that they have to play together as a team. Their characters need to have a reason(s) to work together. But I'd suggest letting the players come up with those reasons. Are they henching for Doc Destroyer? Are they trying to escape from Stronghold and need one another? Are they friends? Is there a big crime that they canonly pull off with each other? They have a common enemy like the Champions? Obviously moderate the idea(s) if you feel the need but try to make it something the players want. If they can't come up with reasons to get along it'll make your life a misery as a GM. And everyone needs to remember that "villain" doesn't have to mean psychopath. The villain is just one the wrong side of the law for some reason.

Which begs the question: why are the PCs on the wrong side of the law? They just grew up bad? They're the victim of circumstances? They grew up on the wrong side of the tracks? Doc. Destroyer has their family held hostage and unless the PC does as the Doc wants they're dead?

I think once both these questions are answered you'll all have a much easier time coming up with plot lines for them.

    Cheers.

  2. Re: New story idea...

    Cool idea.

Just this evening a mate told me about The Invisibles. Odd coincidence, but it sounds like a similar sort of thing. Extra dimensional/extra temporal bad guys secretly rule the world and the heroes are fighting against them.

I see a lot of weirdness, extra dimensional chases, confused chains of causality. As well as good old fashioned conspiracy theory stuff. Sounds like fun.

  3. Re: The Collapse Of Dark Realm

Knight Rider: She would have had trouble with the whole adventure, not being the type to believe in magic. "What is with all this magic crap? This can't be real. But, regardless, going through that portal can't be worse than staying in what is soon going to be the wrong side of the event horizon. I wonder if my tachyon scanner can get any readings from a magical (I mean really, magic? Are we sure it aint just strange alien technology?) portal?"

Dark Star (yeah not very original, my first supers character from when I was about 15 and first got a copy of the the old FASERIP Marvel game.) Actually got his powers from being thrown into the Dark Dimension by a magi-tech accident. He'd suspect the Dark Realm is just a small part of the Dark Dimension he remembers and that the collpase would send him back to what he calls the Dark Dimension. And there's NO WAY IN HELL he's going back there. So, lacking any dimesnional movement powers of his own, he'd be on the tail of those shadowings faster than a cheetah on catnip. He'd rather freeze in outer space, at least that'd be quick.

  4. Re: Real Costs for spells and how you handle them?

I've just started a FH game and I'm going with a MP. Since the player playing the wizard is new to the game I designed her character. I've insisted that all the spells in the MP be thematically linked. She's a curse chucker. Her spell list is only 6 spells long at the moment, and all of them take 2-3 uses to be effective. She is, if anything, a bit underpowered. But she has the potential to become very scary indeed. I can't see this character being done any other way to be honest.

  5. Re: A Super powered Nation

Knight Rider: Are you insane? Give out super powers randomly to people? You think that would work? 10/10 for science, 0/10 for human nature. Have you considered maybe recruiting a small team of good people, people with records of helping others? That might work better, dufus. Now get out of here, contact me later and I can help you pick your people. I don't trust you to do it yourself. Oh and I'll keep the bomb.

  6. Re: A super school

Would like to suggest trying to find a copy of the old Teenagers From Outer Space game. Granted TFOS is more like Archie Comics in tone (if Archie had super powers and an alien girl friend.) But full of fun ideas to milk.

  7. Re: A Cerebro on the Cheap

So I'm guessing that what you want is extra oomph for existing powers.

Just buy the extra dice (or skill levels or naked advantages or what ever) with the Foci limitations suggested above (bulky, immobile, fragile, etc. etc.)

so for example: +6d6 Telepathy (OIF, Fragile, Bulky, RSR: Systems Operation, Only usable to boost existing telepathy) + Naked Advantage Megascale on up to 60 Active Points (or whatever the character's telepathy comes to when bosted by the machine) (OIF, Fragile, Bulky, RSR: Systems Operation.)

is this the sort of thing you had in mind?

  8. Re: Does your campaign world have a S.H.I.E.L.D.?

I'm using UNTIL and PRIMUS. So far my campaign hasn't gotten that far so neither has had much impact. Of the 2 PRIMUS will almost certainly end up playing the bigger role. I've got the UNTIL book and a friend of mine has old copy of the PRIMUS one which I can borrow. End of the day these are both big organisations and I don't have the time to write up something like that, even assuming I'd do anywhere near as good a job, which I wouldn't. I do of course put my own spin on things.

  9. Re: Cosmic Centurions

They have to be a volunteer. It's their self-sacrifice that impresses the Source after all.

Am going to assume that the original home of the Silver Centurion is standard Champions Universe, early 21st century. That could make him an UNTIL agent. Stationed on GATEWAY. As to nationality... their country of origin should be fairly inconsequential now, they have a much wider view of the universe and all the species that inhabit it. The petty tribalism of Earth seems silly to them in light of the vastness of the universe. And as a contrast with their new role as guardian of the whole world they could come one of the more famously nationalistic countries.

As to their original role, how about a scientist who saw the meteor coming but no-one believed them when they said it was changing course. It seems the meteor was being used a a weapon (mass driver style) by some hostile alien power. The hostile aliens are in fact trying to destroy Earth because their sorcerer-soothsayers have foreseen that it shall be the birthplace of their greatest enemy. Cue: "Oops, our attempts to avoid the future have in fact simply brought to pass." (Don't ya hate it when that happens?)

Really liking the ideas coming out in this thread. Very Silver Age Defenders of the Galaxy.

  10. Re: battle Wear vs. Town Wear

Of course, all of this is kind of moot if the GM is running a constant campaign of breaking-and-entering at the inns and footpads in the alleys...if the cities are a battleground and leaving your stuff behind locked doors is essentially abandoning it to looters, then the PCs are justified in wearing their full kit at all times. If that's against the local law, well screw it. If it's against local custom, WTF are the locals thinking walking around unarmed when their home town is so damn dangerous? If the GM wants to occasionally catch the PCs off guard, then he needs to cut them lots of slack most of the time.

This sums it up nicely for me.

If the GM wants the PCs to act in a civilised manner then the PCs had better be given some civilisation to do it in.

  11. Re: What can you do with five points?

5How about making yourself be pretty?

I'm a Super model!: Sight Group Images 1" radius, +/-4 to PER Rolls, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (33 Active Points); Extra Time (6 Hours, Only to Activate, Beauty regime; -1 3/4), Limited Power Power loses about half of its effectiveness (Only to look like a beautiful version of yourself; -1), IAF Fragile (Makep up so cunningly applied no one realises you're wearing any. But it's easy to wipe off when they do.; -3/4), No Range (-1/2), Incantations (Requires Incantations throughout; Must jabber on about beauty regimes the whole time. Or bitch about other models.; -1/2), Side Effects (Must always pose for photographers; -1/4), Requires A Beauty Regime Roll (Active Point penalty to Skill Roll is -1 per 20 Active Points; -1/4), Concentration (1/2 DCV; Only while applying make up; -1/4)

  12. Re: What can you do with five points?

Ooh, I dunno about that rabbit's foot, dsatow.

It's OAF for starters. Wont' be long until the pit boss has your man thrown out in the street. Plus 3d6 luck a second after you need it is not gonna help with the turning of the cards.

    How about:

    Rabbit's Foot

2d6 Luck, IAF (Rabbit's Foot. Hey, no-one actually believes they work.) -1/2; Incantations (Gambling cliches like: Pappa needs a brand new pair of spats!) -1/4; Activation Roll -1/4.

Actually if you really want to push your lucky rabbit's foot you could keep upping that Activation Roll. Push your real world luck in hopes of upping your character's game world luck. :nonp: But I don't want to think about that too hard.

  13. Re: My Players looted the room

Thanks Bolo. Right back at ya. :-)

I suppose we should remember the first rule of GMing: no encounter plan survices contact with the PCs.

I do have a happy ending though. The next sesson was played and the Heores actually used their brains and thought things through without going psycho and killing and looting. They even caught the bad guy and didn't cause an international incident.

  14. Re: My Players looted the room

Ah some food for thought there guys. Yes, I shall have to have a word with them about what is genre appropriate and what is not.

Some more details, just for laughs you understand:

They didn't get to keep the loot as they used it to pay the people smuggler who got them out of Hong Kong. Did I mention: they did this in Hong Kong where they are foreign nationals? So now the Chinese police would like to question them, although as yet there is only circumstantial evidence linking them to the crime. These guys also work for PRIMUS some of the time. Their handler there is going to be very annoyed when the State Dept. pass on a politely worded complaint from China. All in all they SHOULD know better.

And no, they are not just scraping by. I allow them to have any sort of normal equipment that the characters can afford and is not restricted in some way. So the millionaire has his i-phone with international roaming and flash suits and luxury car and eats out at the best resteraunts etc. They all have internet access and laptops if they want them. But a gun costs character points (unless it's just a one-off 'pick up the dropped weapon' situation.)

Now, I must admit we are deep in the rusty iron age in this game. None of my PCs are (and this is a massive understatement) particularly moral types. I'm cool with that. It's more the stupidity (repercussions? why should there be repercussions? we're super heroes) and the DnD-ness of it. Mostly the DnD-ness of it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy DnD. (am I allowed to say that here?) It's just a different style of game. So yes, I think today we shall start the session today with a chat about what is genre appropriate and what sort of repercussions actions will have. Make sure we're all in the same ball park.

cheers folks. As I said at the top mostly I just needed to vent. I mean it is actually pretty funny. And has given me a a few plot seeds to work with.

  15. Re: My Players looted the room

We once added a bunch of DnD players to a Champions game and right after they KOed the villains they are tried to loot the bodies, so we pointed out Spandex doesn't have pockets. But we still had a laugh.

LOL! That's funny. I might mention that to my players, in a ****-stirring sort of way.

  16. Re: Moving Violation

Knight Rider: would use the suite of hi-tech scanners built into her power armour to look for any unusual radiation/energy signatures. Then she'd take the data to her scintist sister, since Knight Rider no idea how to read the scanner's data.
