  1. From the description you gave of what happens to him when he fights, it definitely sounds like he DOES go Enraged. Enraged doesn't affect your mental abilities noticeably (you get mad, not stupid), you don't attack your allies, though you'll tear into your opponents with everything you've got. It also ensures all your levels go to OCV.

(I've tried to explain this to people in D&D games over and over. Barbarian Rage is NOT Barbarian Stupidity! That's another class feature.):D

    So, were it I ...

Enraged: In Combat, set modifiers as appropriate, possibly with a GM 'gift' that enables him to make an Ego roll as complimentary to his Enraged check. (I.E. An 8- Enraged to start, make an Ego Roll by 3, it becomes an 11-) This simulates the ability to both will yourself to go berserk, as well as just losing control of yourself.

Extra Strength, Extra Constitution, Extra Levels, and maybe even Damage Reduction STUN only, only when Enraged (-1/4 or -1/2). I'd let the STR and CON 'factor through' to PD, ED, REC, END, and STUN, myself.

  2. Maybe, but you have to wonder if ulterior motives were involved when the mentalist's player bounces up and down in her chair, waving her arms and chanting, "I CAN HELP! I CAN HELP!" when the topic comes up ...

    ;)

  3. Argh ... trying to respond to this and my cats keep tromping over the bloody keyboard. >"< *mew*

Anyway, yeah, I've done this. Some moderately flaky villain in an old game had agents called 'The Men In Bowlers', a set of finely dressed proper British gentlemen who carried umbrellas, and spoke like John Cleese. Of course, those umbrellas were hidden radiation guns that did 4d6 AP EKA. Got caught VERY flat footed and was VERY glad that character regenerated.

  4. Closest we've ever come in most of my game is the team Mentalist teaching Mental Defense to the rest of the team by repeatedly blasting them with Ego Attacks until they go mercifully numb. :)

    *ZAP!*

    "Did that hurt?" "Yes."

    *Zap*

    "Did that hurt?" "Yes."

    *Zap*

    "Did that hurt?" "Yes."

    *ZAP!*

    "Did that hurt? ... Hello?"

  5. Actually, there was a whole team called the Destruction Company in High-Tech; Power Tool, Live Wire, Chainsaw, Blowtorch (I think?), Countdown and Jackhammer.

Does anybody else think Bulldozer should get a tag-team partner named Piledriver?:D

  6. Oh, man ... this looks like a fun one.:D

I'd be tempted to give him a partner with an impossibly low DEX, who is a total klutz, thusly creating the team of:

    Thud And Blunder.

Though, if you want something that starts with M, I'd be tempted to suggest 'Moron', with a negative INT.

  7. "You have earned something few mortals ever have, hero. You have earned the undying enmity of Doctor Destroyer ... I could slay you here, and now with but an errant thought, and a wave of my mighty hand ... but I shall not. For you shall serve as an example to all fools who would dare oppose Destroyer. Such a pedestrian act is beneath the dignity of Destroyer ... go now, but let your nights be sleepless as the realization seeps into your pathetic brain. The realization that your fate is now in the hands of Doctor Destroyer, and all the world shall bear witness to your folly."

In short, yeah, Dr. D COULD just float down and wipe you off the face of the planet in 2 segments, but a megalomaniac like him wouldn't do something so ... dull. It'd have to be a big production number, humilating him, belittling him, and rendering him utterly helpless until the coup de grace. Heck, with a little psychology applied, the heroes could probably trick Destroyer into letting them go! ("Go ahead, kill me ... anything's better than suffering this humiliation!" "You'd like that, wouldn't you?")

One thing I do for characters, fairly often, is the idea of the "Campaign Hunted". It works best when the PCs are a member of a group that's been around a while, but with rotating membership or 'branch offices', like the X-Men/Force/Factor. Otherwise, I use it for frequently-occuring-Campaign-Villains who are going to be in the Heroes' hair from day one anyway, just because they're heroes. (VIPER springs to mind.)

    Cybernetic reflex boosters?

    Early warning systems?

    Target trackers in the HUD?

I believe, during the Secret Wars, Iron Man made reference to his 'new radar system and in-flight dodging computers' or something similar. It's all technobabble, but so long as it sounds good ... ;)

  9. Darn it, where's my book ...

In the 'overview of powers' section, where it goes over powers by type, under Adjustment powers, isn't there an Advantage for Adjustment Powers that lets them affect Adders and Advantages? Isn't that pretty much perfect for adding the Double Knockback? Like that with another Aid to boost the damage output (rather than linking an EB, which would apply against defenses separately), and you're in business.

  10. I've seen a Dex war, yes. High-powered 4e game (260 point characters with 18d6 max attacks:eek: ), and one 'speedster' had a 44 DEX (campaign max was 45). I put speedster in quotes because his combat move was only 10" (noncombat was another story). The war was started because, on every segment he acted (SPD 7), the GM would call out the Segment Number, and the player would say, every time,

"I get to go first, because I have a 44 Dex."

Thus prompting someone else to create a Dex 45 flier for the express purpose of saying 'Wanna bet?'. :P

As far as Wolverine goes, I'd put him a full CV behind Spider-Man, maybe two. About on par with Captain America, Dex-wise, but not as many CSLs. Despite his bluster, he's not as good as Cap in a fight. I think last time I modelled them, Spidey was a 33, Cap a 29, and Wolverine a 26 Dex.

  11. This was in an old Marvel Superheroes Game (the better-than-people-give-it-credit-for SAGA system, with the Fate Deck rather than dice). At any rate, a buddy of mine was playing a character with Phasing, and I had Teleport and Invisibility. We were the espionage squad. The GM had a very ... linear way of doing things (both running games and playing), so was completely unable to come up with any way to stop us.

Anyway, we're investigating a Sentinel outpost in the middle of the Nevada desert. Through some sneaky manipulations and sabotage, we managed to get all the human troops into their barracks (surprise inspections), and seal the barracks doors, locking them in. We then sent the Sentinels on a wild goose chase, and opened the gates for the rest of our teammates.

A couple of minutes later, I looked at my friend, looked around, looked back to him, and said, "You know what this means, don't you? All Their Base Really ARE Belong To Us."

  12. Y'know, somehow something looks wrong with that construction, but darned if I can put my finger on what it is. It's like it shouldn't work, but it does.

I'd imagine that's similar to the construction someone like Mr. Fantastic would use when he goes really flexible and can ooze under doors ... hmm, maybe that's it, with that construction, he could technically squeeze through small openings.

  13. Heh ... to think, when I clicked on this thread title, I thought it was referring to the speedster from the Freedom Force PC game.:) Someday, I gotta convert those characters to Hero5.

But yes, this does look like a really nifty way to simulate hyper-speed.

  14. Take Highway 63 north for about 90 miles, and you'll find Kirksville, the town about which my old psychology professor said this:

"If they ever gave the United States an enema, Kirksville is where they'd put the tube."

    I never could argue that.:D

  15. If you mean an 'ultimate vehicle' book of some sort, I don't have one or access to one ... I'm on FREd and CKC, with a borrowed Champions genre book. *sigh* I just got a new job, though, so maybe ...

If you mean vehicle rules in FREd or Champs, can I get a page number reference? I haven't seen that before ...

  16. My impulse is to simply stay, "Steve." :)

However, if there's one thing I've learned over the course of my life, it's that even if you 'know' the shipping date for a gaming supplement of any sort, there's no way of actually being certain. Production errors, births, deaths, inclement weather, natural disasters, illnesses, and alien invasions all mess up shipping schedules.
