  1. As a computer expert himself, Vigilwould NEVER have made that devil's bargan. If I had data I wanted ANYONE to have, it would be burned onto a CD and handed over that way. NO ONE accesses Vigil's computer but Vigil!

As far as the team base goes, well, Vigil didn't trust the people running the team either. So before getting undressed to take a shower, he always ran the hot water long enough to steam up all the mirrors completely... as well as any hidden camera lenses. Other than that, he was never seen outside of costume when circumstances forced him to live at the base.

(Yes, Vigil was more than a bit paranoid. But when you're a villian secretly trying to reform - and even the team doesn't know - paranoia is a way of life.

  2. Re: Golden Age Resources: Superweapons of WW II

If you could take out a lock or two that might shut it down for a while. But then maybe that's why they cancelled the op.

The idea was, if you blow out the locks, most of the water in Gatun Lake would drain out, and it would take years to refill it to a level navigatable for oceangoing ships.

Beast: I'm not 100% sure, but I'd bet that at the very least there were torpedo nets around the entrance to the Canal. And I'm pretty sure the path from deep water to the first set of locks is not a straight line.

  3. Re: The War on Christmas

Vigil would ignore it. Humans and metahumans are very nearly at war, and if it comes to blows the body count will reflect that. We've got bigger issues to deal with.

If he trips over them, he'll stay out of the fight and hitch a ride on top of one of their escape vehicles, then tell the authorities where to find them. But he's certainly not going to waste time dealing with petty thieves.

  4. Re: Wishful Thinking...

Not really his style' date=' especially the part about letting someone turn the sky purple with green polka dots...[/quote']

What does he care what color the sky is, so long as he gets whatever price he's charging for the wishes? I imagine souls are still a hot commodity, befuddled or not.

  5. Re: Wishful Thinking...

My real self: Expect a monkey's paw deal coming for them' date=' when they wake up next day. (especially considering who posted this scenario :sneaky: )[/quote']

Yep. Marcus' ultrauberbadguy is doubtless behind this. And as a Satan analouge, he's doubtless going to charge a hefty price for those wishes

  6. Re: So You Wake Up In The Hospital

Another possibility that could be interesting is that the PCs wake up in a mental hospital. Whatever caused the zombie outbreak also somehow cured them. Admittedly' date=' this could make for a 'twitchier' bunch of heroes.[/quote']

Yeah, they're not paranoid anymore; everyone really IS out to get them (and eat their brains). :D

  7. Re: How do GMs out there handle late arrivals

I have the new player start out a bit behind the others, but within shouting distance so he won't be a liability. In the above example, vets with 75+75+100xp would be joined by an experienced 75+75+50-75 'xp' character.

Of course, I'd also insist the new character be created at 75+75, and then add those 50-75 points to that base in similar proportions to the xp spending of the vets. They don't get to make a 150+75 character.

  8. Re: PRE Drain

I haven't made the PRE attack yet, just the PRE drain.

and I was hoping to avoid the Invisible Power Effect.

So is "creepy" a sight based sense? Gloomy maybe, but creepy?

Use 'Change Environment' for a creepy room... and give the teacher an extra 1d6 to her PRE attack for appropriate setting. You get the same effect either way.

  9. Re: Mystical tests of character?

If you can gimmick your way around the test*, it's no longer a test. You can assume that any technique listed outside of "One of you has to take a walk" will be disallowed (Handwaved) away. This is not a test of engineering skill, or medical skill, or self control, it is a test of character.

*(which, given that it's Star Trek, is almost a given)

10 person-days of air, 12 person-days til rescue? Sounds like the lifeboat is pretty well messed up. In the 20th century nuclear submarines mananged to carry over a hundred people for three MONTHS without resupplying the air.

But given the conditions of the test, there are still five days before the decision MUST be made. Plenty of time to explore other options. And a cantidate that didn't explore them and either take the walk or execute the civilian IMMEDIATELY, would not be a good Starfleet cantidate either way.

  10. Re: Mystical tests of character?

Neither' date=' of course. Air isn't the only consideration. So is food... :eg:[/quote']

Six days without food is completely survivable without resorting to extreme measures. Rationing 5 days of food to last six days... is routine in most undeveloped nations.

Likewise, going 24 hours without water isn't that big a deal in a controled cimate.

It's that missing 24 hours of O2 that is the issue. And even that can be dealt with.

The interesting test I saw on Star Trek was when Deanna was up for her command test.

  11. Re: "Neat" Pictures

Yes they burn the wound close.

    CES

Lucas never says. But judging from the blood on the floor of the cantina after Ben chops the arm off the one dude, I'd say it's partial cauterization at best. Major blood vessels would still bleed.

Which means unless a force choke is coming up real quick, Vader might be screwed.

  12. Re: Attractiveness - Comeliness Vs. Striking Appearance

In our group, we split the difference.

Players are expected to go along with the rolls for character interaction, unless it is vitally important to the character that they not do so. So if the character concept is 'cold fish', no amout of persuasion is going to get him to hug someone in public. If the character concept is 'gay', no seduction roll by a woman is likely to succeed. If the character concept is 'rich b*****d,' no amount of conversation is going to convince him to donate to your charity. If he is 'loyal to the king unto death' then no amount of interrogation will get him to tell where the secret door into the king's bedchamber is.

But just because you're a 'rich b*****d' doesn't mean you can't be conned into spending money on a get rich scheme...

Mind control, of course, is another thing entirely.

  13. Re: Evil

You've just described both political parties.

Yep. And we keep voting for them.

We have the government we deserve. It's not good and better, it's evil and worse.
