  1. Re: [New Product] Champions Complete

Has Viper been done for 6th edition yet? If it hasn't' date=' that'd be a nice sourcebook to see, along with the usual suspects.[/quote']

Nope. I wouldn't mind doing a revision sometime, but I have a lot on my plate and not much energy for it at the moment.

Still I'm curious whether the nine years between now and the last supplement will make Hero fans more receptive to a revision, or will three books in twenty years (assuming a 2013 publication date) be too much.

  2. Re: [New Product] Champions Complete

The solution to power variance is probably to define some campaign types and suggest variation for each. The problem is, some folks seem to get off on being smug and self-righteous about what's written on the main sheet, and completely ignore any tailoring advice, or the fact that the author offers tailoring advice in the first place.*

That said, I think we can offer better advice, by defining the baseline scores for a recommended campaign in the front, how many turns/attacks that villain is expected to last (if not outright win), and how to adjust the character for campaign levels and numbers of characters.

    eg.

Assuming a base of four PCs with an average of 10d6 attacks, 5 SPD, and 25 DEF for "medium" campaign.

    ----------

Master-class villains (such as Firewing, Dr. Destroyer, etc.), should have -8 DEF for light campaigns (40 active point attacks), +8 DEF for medium-heavy campaigns (60 active point attacks), +15 DEF for heavy campaigns (70 active point attacks), and +25 DEF (or +15 DEF and 1/2 Damage Reduction) for super-heavy campaigns (80 active point campaigns).

Their OCV and DCV should, except where inappropriate to the concept, never be lower than the highest base OCV and DCV of the team, and never higher than two above the highest base OCV and DCV, unless one character has a OCV or DCV well above the rest of his team.

For every member of the team above 4, add +20 STUN to the villain's base STUN, except when inappropriate to their concept.

    -----------

This could be defined at the start of the volume, saving some space in the writeups. Hopefully, that section would actually get read and acknowledged. But with this arrangement, we can better define what campaign the villain's expected to exist in, and offer more usable advice for the GM. We could also poll our player base to determine what campaign power levels the base writeups should aim for.

*The easiest way to piss off a writer is to ignore what he writes when it doesn't fit into your agenda.

  3. Re: Battle of Detroit

Thanks. Gargoyle popped into my head' date=' but then I thought that was a villain. Just now I realized my brain was crossed up between Gargoyle and Gremlin, who looks a little similar, but more spiky. I was thinking, can't be Gargoyle, that's a villain. Not that I'm that up on the first team, I mostly know them from the comics and vague memories of the older rulebooks.[/quote']

Gremlin drank the same serum that Gargoyle drank to give him his powers, so the two have a connected origin.

  4. Re: Battle of Detroit

Who's the winged guy (person?) on the first Champions team? I got all the rest' date=' but I don't remember that one.[/quote']

    Mark Williams' character, Gargoyle.

I'm glad you enjoyed it and I thank you all for your kind words.

    Thank *you*, Psigar.

  5. Re: [New Product] Champions Complete

And here I just noted in another thread how I simply wasn't going to pay $110 dollars to have the two part 6th edition and Champions.

And hey, how's my little buddy Bennie? Haven't seen you in a long, long time. Back in Canada?

(and yes, keeping the mask on)

    ;-)

Yep, back in Canada, I've been back for about twelve years now. I've had some ups and downs, many considerable. I'm surviving, and occasionally, a little better than that, in large part due to friends.

  6. Re: [New Product] Champions Complete

Okay' date=' everybody who's been saying this is the kind of product they and their game groups have been wanting for years... time to pony up![/quote']

Amen. Let's take that stingy gamer stereotype ans break it into pieces.

  7. Re: [LoH] Run Info

We will do Project Awakening next Thursday at 630 PM Server/Pacific. That is a L23 lair, so you have a week's time to get a character ready for that level. Hope to see you there!

  8. Re: Gestalt: Architects of Change: Preview

    Anymore updates Scott?

I had gotten back to work on it recently, but a broken finger has curtailed my writing. I'm facing either surgery or therapy; if I go the surgery route, it'll delay me for a month, if I choose the therapy route, I won't have a hand in a sling and will probably start up again a little sooner. The timeline updte will definitely need a rewrite.

Glad you folks are still interested.

  9. Re: Curious about your view on the current state of CO. (Anybody still play regularly

I was happily grinding away at the various adventures' date=' but I started getting bored by it. There's been no real role-playing except the casual conversations I've had in Club Caprice. I'd been hoping for more, but it hasn't panned out.[/quote']

Caprice tends to be very... idiosyncratic... in its RP. Any special type or theme that you're looking for? Traditional hero, light RP, mercs? I could look for a group that might fit.

  10. Re: Curious about your view on the current state of CO. (Anybody still play regularly

I'm still playing regularly (though a couple of health related issues have slowed me down lately). The RP community I've connected with is pretty good (I'm particularly enjoying Sprawler's occasional "one different published Champions villain per day" event) and I do enjoy the alerts.

However, I share a lot of Scott's concerns, and the region blocking baffles, saddens, and infuriates me. I hope we can get some further development for the game, and I hope the community hasn't become so addicted to the easy xp of Dockside Black Fang that they'll reject it even when it does come.

  11. Re: Warlord: CO Style

I like the "W" in crosshairs on Warlord's armor's gun arm. That makes a fine symbol/trademark for him.

Been a lot of requests over at the CO forums for tech-based villains, and a few specifically for the Warlord. Ideally the War Machine will also be on board.

Hopefully this heralds the start of bringing more PnP villains into the game. All we need now is a proper intro for Mechanon.

A ten man Gravitar fight was recently on Test, so there's more in the offering.

The Shadow Army was part of the Alert, but not the rest of the War Machine. I'm hoping that will change.
