Re: in the spirit of christmas!
Wow, that's breath-taking. Like an engraving, but coloured. Exquisite detail. So many images of grief, loss and mourning -- and in the pouring rain, no less -- it makes the tear-ducts burn just looking at it.
What's the story behind the image?
The character pierced by his own staff is called Thor's Assassin, who is, despite the name, a hero. This scene is his first ever defeat.
TA is a remarkably well rounded-out character, who's past involved a decent into madness and the murder of his patron (Thor, hense the name). This scene is at the end of a climactic encouncer with another player's character.
I chose the pose deliberately so that TA would almost look relaxed, despite the violence done to him with his own staff. His aura of invincibility (ala the old gunfighter, forever challenged) gone. The weight of guilt over his past, lifted in defeat.
There's still a wee bit of tidying up to do - detailing on the armour and such like, but I actually like the mood of this one

This is a very small version of a recent commission...

Re: The November Nine
'cause he looks like a ballerino?BTW-Non traditional superheroes are da bombe. Shows that the world still has creativity. Who needs a thousand Super-Man clones (other than DC)? Give me a bouty butterfly chick any day.
The description of Moore and Leach's Marvelman as being built more like a ballerina than a bodybuilder always appealed to me, so I chose to echo that here (along with a significant nod to Miller and Varney's Dark Knight cover), since Rune appeared in his screen shots to be a slightly built, if powerful, hero.

Many thanks to lemming for the forum-foo
Last one. Thanks to all those who entered their characters for consideration, and my apologies to all those whose characters weren't chosen. It was difficult to choose just nine, and had I the time, I'd have loved to have done more.
I also think that this pic highlights why I don't do traditional supers very often...

Re: The November Nine
Kinda makes me think of Go-Anna from the Megellan webcomic. Is that a toothpick or a fag in her mouth? It's a Kiseru Pipe, but I don't know why...

Each character selected will be done in the same format, and posted in both straight line-art and the painted version. Should the character's creator want a full-sized high-resolution jpeg of the artwork, please PM me with contact details and I'll be happy to send you the file.

Re: in the spirit of christmas!
Done a while ago, but just published now, is Angry Gnome Comics' Short Stack issue 5, which, alongside some very fine work, also has a short story with art by me.
Quite exciting in a geeky comic-fan way

As with all of these, this is very much a personal interrpetation - trying to get under the skin of the character.

Re: The November Nine
I like the Old One tattoo on her arm. Can't remember if that was in Haven's description of the character or not, but it's a nice touch. Also, the slight camera angle gives a nice feeling of topsy-turvy without going overboard.
It's not in Haven's original description, but I figured if anyone needed to carry an Elder Sign around, it'd be her...

Either Canada or back to the Desert. Snake Gulch is fun, and from there you can move onto Stronghold and Area 51.

Re: in the spirit of christmas!
Are you on the right track? Yeah' date=' I'd say so.[/quote']Very dark and verboding. Thanks! I like how the styles shaping up, but I think it's probably limited in its application
very impressive who is she?I think she's called the Grey Huntress.and she is hot...She's Hot and Grey! Grey Huntress is one of those who straddle the hero / vigilante line (which is really why I stole her for this test pic)
Finished colour version. At least as finished as any of these quick test pics gets! Comments and criticism very welcome!
Grey Huntress was created by The Shades of Grey ( http://the-shades-of-gray.deviantart.com/ )

Re: in the spirit of christmas!
Another quickie sketch, once again, with the character blatently stolen - this one was created by Shades of Grey (http://the-shades-of-gray.deviantart.com/)
Very much a work in progress, with only the linework really complete, and some playing around on the face. Normally I hide this kind of playing about on my hard drive, safe from anyone, but with these I'm after feedback, so I know if I'm on the right track or not.

Re: in the spirit of christmas!
That is fantastic! With one exception, the legs just don't seem to be right. Even if she wears some kind of pants they need more depth and highlights.Otherwise brilliant!
Cooool pics' date=' Doc D, but I'm afraid Legatus is right about the legs on Feral Kat. She's teh awesome, elsewise. [/quote']...it may be that i just forgot about them, and posted before going out ...

Re: in the spirit of christmas!
teh sexeh!I think the b&w looks great for her. Very noir-ish.
Ta! I kept with the noir look for the 'coloured' version too
Did you base the looks of Bombshell on a certain person? She looks so familiar. Any celeb?Justr generic woman, but who knows where my sub-conscious was looking...
for a second i thought it was based on VICTORIA PRATTI don't know who that it, and I'm scared to google a woman's after the last time I tried it
A coloured version of Katfood25's (http://katfood25.deviantart.com/) character, Feral Kat.
These quickies are really more for me to try out different things - in this case, painted fully in photoshop, which I normally never do, and to that end, I'm sneakilly raiding various forums and stealing their characters. This one's from the City of Heroes boards.
(I really like how her upper right arm came out, but not sure about the rest)

Happy birthday to my brother-in-law. Not a superhero, but is married to my sister, and that definately counts as being a hero
