I love the lurking face of (questionable) authority in the background, brooding over them, all in shades of grey...and the brightly sepia-tinted images in the foreground. The Champions themselves look so luminous and clear, so capable and untouched by the increasingly murky issues and ugly politics to come.

 

The trio look very much like a group united, singled out -- almost spotlighted -- amid the grey all around them. I love that look, like 1960s angels or paladins, heroes of a bygone era.

 

And the ominous face in the background reminds me very much of the episode called...was it Interrogation?

 

(And by the bye, was The Champions ever broadcast in colour? Back then, my family only had a black and white television, so I don't know.)

You're very welcome - was a lot of fun to do! I think that The Champions was a colour production, but my memories if it are in black and white too.

Loved Sapphire & Steel growing up - still have nightmares about the faceless children. As for endings you may have forgotten about Blakes7:)

I'll NEVER forget Blake! I've actually resisted re-watching it in case it taints my memories

I do think however, that being stuck for eternity in a grotty old cafe is worse than going down quickly in a blaze of blaster fire

Another British show that would be a good basis - if a little odd - for a game setting could well be Sapphire and Steel ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sapphire_and_Steel and http://www.clivebanks.co.uk/Sapphire%20and%20Steel%20Intro.htm ).

Very odd set up, with odder adventures and perhaps the most downbeat series ending ever.

All my pics are done in Illustrator, so they're vector based, meaning they can go as big / high-res as you want without and loss of resolution. The versions I post here are simply jpeg exports.

I've taken a few liberties, obviously, having dressed WildCard up a bit - it is a big awards ceremony afterall, but I hope it takes some of that 'second place sting' away for you Aylwin. This is a 2-birds-with-one-stone pic. Firstly I fancied drawing a more conventional super-hero than I usually do, and secondly, I've agreed to provide one of the prizes for Steamtank's brilliant Tournament of Champions over on the Champions Online forums, and looking at what folks have done as prizes for the first two, I had vague feelings of panic...

The idea behind it was simply to see if my style works in a narrative format, and I think the jury's still out on whether it does or not.

No progress on these for a while I'm afraid, as I'm currently working on the art for a very small strip, that's to be published by a very small independent publisher.
