  1. Re: When caught in a time paradox, what happens?

Ok, time for truths here (is that possible in a time paradox?).

Here's what I (and all my other temporal selves) do "When caught in a time paradox..." and these are not neccessarilly in order...

    1. Vomit

    2. Beat the GM with a heavy object

    3. Finish eating the Chinese food we ordered

    4. Beat the GM with a heavy object

    5. Quote Monty Python or Star (Trek, Wars, Hero...etc)

    6. Ask the GM if this temporal stuff is his final answer

  2. Re: When caught in a time paradox, what happens?

Well now don't count out miniscule details as insignificant. Sometimes these things matter somewhere down the road. In timeline "A" Bob puts his keys in the left dresser and in "B" they're in the right dresser...if either Bob forgets where he put his car keys it may or may not make any difference.

    Sometimes it does:

Bob-A remembers where the keys are and gets to work with time to spare. Bob-B forgets and has to take the bus and shows up late. Dr. X happens to be attacking in both universes at the same time...Bob-A, having gotten to work on time is accidentally run over by an ice-cream truck and can not change into his secret ID of Captain Hero-Guy...Dr. X takes over the world. Bob-B arrives at the plant late but just in-time to step behind the bus and utter his secret magic word and become Captain Hero-Guy...and hands Dr. X his ass.

It also might come down to something as simple as a name. As comedian George Carlin once asked, "Would Hitler have been taken as seriously if his first name had been 'Skip'? Skip Hitler?"

Of course there is the theory that if you went back in time and killed Hitler (this is the most common scenario) that one of several things may happen. One possibility is that you come back to the present and Hitler never existed (which leads to other temporal problems). Another is that you kill Hitler before he's born or comes to any real power and that upon coming back to the present you find someone else in the text books in place of Hitler or even worse is you find out that the "replacement Hitler" made Hitler look like Suzanne Sommers in a coma and this person's managed to take over the world (and create other temporal issues).

Since I am not a fan of temporal "stuff" I am now going to stop this rant (it stopped being a post 10 minutes ago). No one need suffer my ramblings on this topic more than is necessary. I'm going to take an aspirin and lie down now.

  3. Re: Firefly HERO Website Up

Really nice work. The sepia toned pictures are a nice touch. Perhaps you could do wanted posters for some of the crew as an added touch. After borrowing all my friend's copies of Firefly, I will definately be getting a set of my own for the Holidays.

  4. Re: Chemical Weapons ala Steve Perry's Matador series..

So does this mean someone else has thought of doing a Matador-HERO besides myself? As an aside, you could probably do spetstods as a Multi-Power. I know there was at least one dart/projectile weapon in Gadgets&Gear that with a little tweaking could be a spetstod. You could also give the Spetstod MP the Side Effect disad (A failed "Spetstod use" roll means theres a chance you've shot yourself or a team-mate.)

  5. Re: Why would Dwarves Trade with Humans

I agree with the other responses (food, cloth, etc...), but I also think that "news" would also be a commodity. If the Dwarves are trading for stuff they might like to know the climate of the world around them. Its good to know whose "in charge", or who is blaming who for what. I don't think the Dwarves would care for serious details though. Think of it like this...if you lived in almost total solitude you'd still like to know if Bush or Kerry (or dare I say Nader) won the election. Whose in charge does affect prices whether you're for or against them.

  6. Re: Other Super Hero RPGs as Sources

If I were to run a SuperHero game I wouldn't mind incorporating Freedom City, Millennium City and Empire City into one campaign. Empire City is NYC, Millennium City is Detroit. Make Freedom City the LA or Seattle of the campaign world.

Trying to merge the histories would be difficult.

I have to agree with rayoman...although I'd try and throw in San Angelo, that was a well thought out campaign city.

  7. Re: SF Novels for Star Hero?

Santiago wasn't too bad. The author of Santiago recently released the sequel...The Return of Santiago. I haven't read that one yet...I'm still too busy reading my tome..."The Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 1-?"

If you drop the Starfleet aspect from "The Best and Brightest" and the "S.C.E." series, you might have something worthwhile as well.

  8. Re: What cities could Batman call home?

For a CU city it really has to be Hudson City' date=' and more correctly the [i']Justice not Law[/i] Hudson City. there should be superhumans, they should be rare or very low-level but they need to be a viable threat.

As for a real world city I'd say Chicago is your best choice. There's just no way he could operate in Manhattan without getting caught, particularly with the car, it's an island after all.

I agree, even in the Batmobile traffic in NYC is horrible...I should know, I live there (in NYC, not the Batmobile...although I sometimes wish my car was the Batmobile...)

And if Batman found a parking space (a truly superheroic thing in Manhattan), the poor yutz would probably come back to find a ticket and a bunch guys having lunch on the hood of the Batmobile.

  9. Re: Need help with Israeli version of Capt. America

I like it. Although the name could be different. Before I continue let me raise the "I'm a Jew too..." flag. Perhaps "Jewish Star" or "Hammer of Israel"..."The Hebrew Hammer" is out unless of course you're doing the Jewish Thor. Just a spelling catch here, you say "...David has trained in the use of the shield in both ofencive and defencive methods..." It's "offensive" and "defensive".

I started working on a Punisher-type called "The Rabbi"...of course that's when my gaming group splintered. I so want to test my powers of guilt.

  10. Re: Trek Hero PDF available

For those wondering about the fate of the FASA Trek version' date=' I've added a FASATrek.pdf file to the Trek HERO page, which I've [i']started[/i] added FASA Klingon, Romulan, and Orion information, after doing some cleanup work on the file.

Mmmmm....FASA-Trek. Downloaded it, and aside from some formatting issues (I would think Eodin is aware of some of them) I'm enjoying it. Maybe even a little more than (dare I say it?) TNG and Trek-Hero? I've always enjoyed the FASA-Trek-verse, it was always flexible.

  11. Re: Why do folks that dislike Hero hang out here?

Because where else are they going to tell HERO players how great the ten other game systems they bought over the years (but never really found what they were looking for) are compared to HERO?

Where else are they going to complain that HERO is a terrible system because when they tried playing it (10 years ago) and the GM told them that he didn't want yet another Batman character they were morally crushed?

Keith "Dammit Bones, I've got over 430 DNPCs up there!" Curtis

Slot 2 I think requires the incatation be continuous. After all he is coversing them to death.

  13. You also make a good point that Scotty or Spock would "fiddle" (a technical term) with the controls to get more information. You could say they have +5 skill levels with Systems Op rolls. For both those characters that might make sense since neither one seemed to have a problem using other consoles. Maybe that could be the "Starfleet Crosstraining Package"? That could also explain why Ensign Jones couldn't find space (that stuff between planets and stars?) right outside the starship if his life depended on it.

Ah...Ensign Jones' is a red-shirt and will die in this episode anyway. Usually by the second time Kirk says his full name a red-shirt gets killed. How would that work...DRAIN BODY +3D6 Continuous, Incantaitions ("I'm Captain James T. Kirk...") ?

May I add a "Hell Yes!!" to that?

  15. I didn't even know there was a V.1.0 of Hero Helper. mmmm...helper-goodness. Perhaps another option or two for the champions character creator...like a sharpshooter. Perhaps the ability to combine certain qualities...a brick martial artist and his buddy the energy projecting speedster?

On the whole I kind of like it the way it is...although some of the color schemes could be changed.

  16. Let me clarify. I was neither bitching about the amount of money NASA has spent nor was I wishing them to fail (all the time anyways). I don't know how much it costs to put a probe on Mars or the moon (or somewhere in Utah for that matter...not an attack on Utah)...nor do I really care. As for them "...not carrying the 2..." , it just proves that even rocket scientists and master mathematicians make mistakes. It makes me feel good that nobody on this planet is perfect/infalable (on Mars is another story....), that's all really.

And I'm not all that impressed with the pictures from Mars as my imagination has given me much more interessting images (and not just the landscape...oh those naughty Martian women...I hope they're women...)

  17. After a few failed attempts...sure...go NASA. I like to see failure from groups like NASA once and awhile, it proves they're not above the rest of us. I think it was hillarious that the first probe missed Mars because someone really did forget to carry the "2". The second time, they didn't forget to carry the "2", but they forgot to convert to (or was it from) feet to meters. I guess milking the public for extra money allowed them to pay for the extra mathematicians to check each others work.

    I honestly doubt it.

What extra security would the SGC have? Would they have arrangements with PRIMUS or Batman?

PRIMUS or BATMAN might be asked to go through the gate to help out an SGC-Team...of course under strict military guidlines/guidance. Or perhaps an invading Goa'uld or other offworlder would escape to Gotham where they'd become BATMAN'S problem.

Would they have their own superhero team?

If they did it would be of either super-patriotic types and/or military volunteers. On occasion they might have to deal with PRIMUS and/or BATMAN.

That's bad idea (with me anyways) because I probably would wind up accidentally (or maybe on purpose) killing my younger self (I annoy even myself sometimes)... Of course if I managed to not injure/kill my younger self, things would be the same becuase I don't listen to anyone else...why would my own advice be taken differently?
