  1. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Our daughter Faith turned 4 today. Well, technically yesterday as I type this. April 15th. Kara gets a kick out of her birthdate being so appropriate to my profession. The girls and their uncle, Kara's younger brother, 3 months younger than the twins, had a good time and got a good sugar buzz on the chocolate cake with the chocolate fudge icing. Clean up took awhile, but it was worth it. Times like this, it's good to be a mom.
  2. Re: Answers & Questions Q: What were Mightybec's first words? A: No, dear, you can't play with the electric knife.
  3. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I know why the Reputation feature has limits on how often you can give reputation and how often you can give it to the same person, but it can be very frustrating sometimes. Can I help it if the same people keep making noteworthy posts?
  4. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I'm sorry I ever kiddingly threatened anyone. I'm sorry I ever played along when people start acting like they were scared. I'm sorry that I can't have any kind of baseball bat or Bat Symbol in my avatar because people can't drop the bat fu crap, no matter how many times it's brought to their attention that it bothers someone. What do I have to do to get people to drop it once and for all? Can anyone tell me?
  5. Re: A Thread for Random Musings The girls are napping. Kara came in from work and immediately laid down for a nap. Finally. Non-sick mom gets a break. Time for a Guinness.
  6. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I think Dr. Anomaly's found a different way to pad post count. lol
  7. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Four little girls all having the flu at the same time isn't anybody's idea of fun. Especially when it's obvious your wife isn't feeling that well, either.
  8. Re: Answers & Questions Q: So, are we all ready for a sane, rational discussion on politics? A: I don't think that's a very good idea at this time.
  9. Re: Answers & Questions Q: What would most of the NGD regulars like to switch for Mightybec's drink on occasion? A: There is no way I'm drinking a cabbage margarita.
  10. Re: A Thread for Random Musings As we're getting older, Kara and I are finding out that our definition of friendship varies from what other people call friendship.
  11. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I've noticed that, over all, the drivers I find to be the worst and rudest are women. Why do they put their make up on in the car while driving or when they're at a red light? The lighting's terrible for it, anyway. Never mind that they always get upset when you give a small blast of the horn when they don't notice the light turned green. Just put it on at home and be done with it. The endless jabbering on the cell phone while they're the slowest car on the highway, despite being in the fast lane, also grates. They also don't pay attention to the other lanes and just change lanes when they feel like it. Never mind that there might be another car there. I've seen a couple hang up and immediately start dialing up someone else. Forget the fact that they're in a moving vehicle and should be looking at the damned road! Heaven forbid I hit my turn signal to announce an impending lane change. To most women I've seen, that's an automatic reflex to speed up so I can't get in front of them. I hate to say it, but the stereotype of women drivers is a stereotype for a reason.
  12. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I believe that we now have a way to chastise the people who reply in this thread, thanks to the new "Reputation" feature. lol I'm not sure I really care for the feature, though. The jury's still out on it.
  13. Q: What has Mightybec heard from more women than any man in history? A: Accounting is fun, dammit! Crap! I really need to stop playing this game when Tim and Mightybec are on.
  14. So, there I was, having a rotten morning at work after being out since last Tuesday. No surprise, of course. Things had been going downhill since the moment I'd walked in the door. People were being very careful of me, since it was pretty obvious that I was in no mood for any crap. Then I get this call right before lunch. It's Kara's boss. She's calling to apologize for Kara's recent overtime and the fact that she was sending Kara home tonight with a lot of new procedures that needed to be learned. She then proceeded to tell me how much having Kara in the office meant to her and everyone else. Both on a professional level for her ability, willingness to help out and her work ethic, and on a personal level for her always upbeat manner, the smile she always had on her face and the way she dealt with everyone. The admiration was obvious in her voice and I don't think she's that good an actress. I'll be damned if I didn't have a smile on my face for the rest of the day.
  15. I get very tired of some people having a double standard when they "debate" on these boards.
  16. When I went out to get a light lunch, I stopped at the used CD store to see if I could find a decent Otis Redding CD to upgrade my cassette tape. I found The Very Best of Otis Redding for five dollars. I'm listening to the CD now and that is five dollars very well spent.
  17. Actually, I assumed he meant Clea, Dr. Strange's disciple/lover. What do you know? I must've actually been listening to one or two of Kara's rambling about comics.
  18. I wish someone at Kara's place of work would buy a clue. She has to work late again. Seems some people in other divisions dropped the ball and she's the only one who can fix it. Lack of seniority is a bad thing, especially when combined with good skills and a strong work ethic.
  19. Being really hungry, but afraid to eat because you know you won't keep it down really sucks.
  20. Yeah, I'm changing my avatar a lot. There's two reasons. 1) I'm trying to get away from the whole bat business for awhile, so people will drop the old gag that was bothering some people. 2) I'm sick with the flu and bored out of my mind.
  21. Q: What makes Ned Beatty quake in fear? A: But, I didn't mean to run over him. He leapt in front of my moped.
  22. In perusing the political threads, I've noticed that several people (not naming affiliations, since it doesn't matter) have a tendency to accuse others of cheap shots. This is always against the opposition, of course. Yet, these same people will refuse to acknowledge when someone points out that people that are arguing on the same side as them are using the same tactics. Or they'll justify it by saying the other side did it first. People will also take a superior tone, basically saying that the people opposing them aren't smart enough or mature enough to argue against them. Of course, they can't see where that attitude would tend to be off putting. Unless it's used on them. If people want to claim the moral high road, I wish they'd try taking it first.
