This NPC should make the players cringe.  Big, strong, AND can use magic.  Add the good intelligence and the fact that he can plan ahead should make for a well rounded NPC.  If you really want to make him a SERIOUS threat, add a tribe of Goblyns, a few Ogres, and a Troll or two and you have a enemy that needs a small army to put down!
