Guest dr. strangelove
Re: Weberverse HERO I read the first HH novels. On basilisk station" was great, but after a fe wmore I got tired of weber beating me over the head with his political views. "CONSERVATUVE GOOD! LIBERAL BAD! CAPITALISM GOOD! SOCIALISM BAD!" over and over and over and over and over.... It seems endemic in weber's books, the conservative capitalist faction is always the good guy and the liberal socialist faction is always the bad guy. I also find the idea of hereditary monarchies ridiculous in today's world without extending them into the far future. I quit reading weber altogether when I just couldn't stand being beaten over the head with his political views in every fraking book he writes. I think you got that backwards : Manticore Conservative Association(http://honorverse.wikia.com/wiki/Manticore_Conservative_Association) Manticore Liberal Party(http://honorverse.wikia.com/wiki/Manticore_Liberal_Party) It's the Manticore Crown Loyalist Party and the Manticore Centrist Party that seem to never be wrong. How about the people's republic of haven? Also, another thing about weber's work that drove me away from his was his heroes are simply too good to be believable, while his villains are too evil to be believable. With weber it's absolute good on one side and absolute evil on the other. I mean, does HH ever use the bathroom? I don't know, as perfect as she's portrayed I can't imagine her having any unpleasant biological necessities. it's like that scene in the parody "brady bunch" movie that implied the bradys didn't have a bathroom in their house. If she ever does use the bathroom, one can only imagine the scent of lilacs or roses filling the stall when she does. The villains in the HH universe are equally one dimensional. In one story a 'pirate' crew boarded a freighter, robbed it, then chained the captain to a wall, raped and murdered her crew in front of her, then left, leaving an airlock open so the captain would slowly die of slow decompression. Mwuhahahahaw! Ghawd, why not have them eat a few babies while you're at it, weber? Reading Weber's writing is like watching fox news: A completely black and white universe where conservative = absolute perfect good and liberal = absolute pure evil. He followed this trend in other novels, like his 'starfire" ones, which is why I pass on weber novels. Allistair reynolds is as good on science as weber and knows how to make believable characters too.

Must have happened aftee I quit reading weber. Did someone finally force him to realize his stereotypes were getting tiresome? BTW, did the havenites become capitalists and conservatives when they became good guys? Also, did he ever learn that people are not pure good or pure evil? Escafarc
Re: Weberverse HERO They returned to being a constitutional republic. Starting in the 2nd book(Honor of the Queen) DW started showing that not all of Haven(Alfredo Yu for one) was "evil".
Escafarc
Re: Weberverse HERO And back to OP ships would use the Optional Realistic Space Acceleration Rules (Star Hero 6E page 219) and have Flight 36,000 to 72,000 meters/Turn.
