Wanderer
Leaving aside for a moment the heated question of whether revolutionary superhumans that use their power to force societal change are heroes or scum, let's see a peripheral question: What would happen if such superhuman lose their struggle and are brought in chains before the status quo enforcers: they have engaged in resistence, maybe armed rebellion, against the government, destruction of property, maybe harming or killing of law enforcement or military or government personnel, or civilians like executives of polluting corporations ? What they can realistically expect ? Summary execution, life sentence, indefinite "hot sleep", prison term in a specially-built structure, capital sentence, interdimensional exile or super-science confinement, brainwashing, community service -or involuntarily servitude in the armed forces- with a mininuke in their brains ? Lets' assume no viable super-science method of permanently stripping a super of its dangerous powers exists, except keeping the super in eternal heavy sedation, killing, or brainwashing him. In more classical comic book conditions, what may the top tier of criminal supers like Firewing, Graviter, Holocaust , Viperia expect if caught ? Evil Toki
Re: Super-sentencing Well in classical comic book conditions they can expect to escape when the writer deems it important enough to use them again
Magmarock
Re: Super-sentencing What they can realistically expect ? [/quote'] What you are asking about is the end result. And the end result would greatly depend on what authority is holding the trial and sentencing (assuming they even do that much). Before punishment is ever considered, you must determine who will do the punishing and what their laws/rules and beliefs/values are. The USA will certainly handle their criminals differently than the UN or Argentina or Iran will. Same with an intergalactic federation. Or a native tribe in Africa, Australia or Peru. How about narrowing the discussion parameters a bit? Mags
Derek Hiemforth
Re: Super-sentencing According to what you've described, they are incredibly dangerous criminals found guilty of treason and murder. Under those conditions, in the United States, and assuming a "real-world" reaction (as opposed to a comic book reaction), I think they could likely expect execution. Well when you play for the big shots, you may expect to pay the highest price if you fail. Then a character undetaking this would likely try to fall on the filed of battle if all is lost. Doug McCrae
Re: Super-sentencing In the real world, execution. Even if they'd only got as far as property destruction in the current political climate they might be looked on as terrorists. In a Millarverse the same would happen to them as happens to the Authority after they were beaten by Seth - bizarre, imaginative torture, humiliation and headfuckage. Bound to be a bit of ass raping thrown in too.
