Base Points: 200Experience Required: 415Total Experience Available: 415Experience Unspent: 0Total Character Cost: 790

Height: 1.84 m Hair: Dark Brown
Weight: 80.00 kg Eyes: Gray
Appearance: Ohlenschlager is an extremely handsome man who always appears impeccably dressed in designer labels. His eyes are hard, however, and there is a sense of cold remoteness in his demeanor. He appears alone, even amongst crowds and never seeks out companions.

As The Sun, Ohlenschlager wears a black leather costume with mask to simultaneously obscure his identity and to bring fear into the hearts of his opponents.

Personality: Ohlenschlager is discrete and immaculate in everything he does. He laughs when appropriate, but is mostly reserved and flawless. He avoids relationships of all kinds and is most at ease alone in a gallery or far above the world. As a member of Tarot's Major Arcana, The Sun embodies an unalterable loyalty which is rarely matched amongst his peers.Quote:"The light always reveals the artist's divergence. Discover the source of that light, and you will isolate the genius within."Background: Mogens Ohlenschlager first met Delphine Lacam at the Sorbonne and she soon introduced the young Dane into the world of Tarot. Ohlenschlager's control over the electromagnetic spectrum had raised interest in the secretive organization and with the help of Lacam he was soon recruited for a short, but lucrative, assignment. Ohlenschlager successfully infiltrated a military installation outside of Kiel in Germany on Lacam's orders. He was nineteen, impressionable and keen to impress the beautiful French professor with his nascent metahuman abilities. Once in the installation, Lacam's real purpose became clear. The security forces confronted Ohlenschlager and he was forced to push his powers to their peak in order to avoid capture. He leveled most of the installation and walked away pulsing with light, right into the arms of Lacam. She whisked him away to Switzerland and then to New York City where he continued to develop his control over the magnetic spectrum.

Seven years later Ohlenschlager had returned to Denmark and began his career as an art fraud specialist. He still worked for Lacam and, indirectly, for Tarot and was beginning to accrue a formidable reputation in the organization. His powers were developing at an impressive rate and their was talk about offering Ohlenschlager a greater role in Tarot.

It was the Emperor himself who approached Ohlenschlager to become The Sun. Delphine Lacam, who had always been Ohlenschlager's contact, had mysteriously disappeared. Ohlenschlager has never questioned the Emperor on anything, and remains one of the most dedicated of the Major Arcana to the Tarot philosophy.

Ohlenschlager is an expert in European Art and is the CEO of the University of Copenhagen, being responsible for entrepreneurial decisions and the search for lucrative funding and sponsorship.

Powers/Tactics: The Sun has control over the electromagnetic spectrum, able to generate heat, light, x-rays and electricity. By manipulating the gravitational and magnetic fields of the planet he is able to increase his strength and control objects over great distances. He is able to warp light around himself to become invisible and is able to generate intense force fields around himself.

In the presence of the sun's light, Ohlenschlager's powers are intensified and he becomes almost impervious to injury.

Campaign Use: The Sun is a high-powered villain in the Global Guardians Universe. He's intended to oppose entire teams, occasionally backed up with Tarot agents.

Re: GGU NPCs For Review

Cool Character. Don't really have criticisms but I have comments of the sort of "the way I would do this" variety.

I tend to have characters buy the +1/4 advantage affects desolid unless they have a cosmic/extradimensional/magic sfx.

The character sounds like he might be hard to look at when he wants to be. You could reflect that with DCV Skill Levels with the limitation not versus opponents with Sight Group Flash Defense or a Change Environment power.

Good work as usual.

Re: GGU NPCs For Review

Good character... I agree with Fireg0lem's idea about recovery instead of endurance, although either is workable. Also, you have the Blinding Flare attack set as hearing group (I know, just a typo) :)

I found it amusing that a man with sun powers dresses in black (with mask) to bring fear into the hearts of his opponents... his powers would tend to kind of defeat the intent. Also makes me think an alternate name for him would be Sunspot... heh!

Thanks for the heads up. And I agree. Recovery other than Endurance.

Cool! :)

The next NPC up for commentary will most likely be posted tomorrow. I'd be interested to see what you think of her.

Height: 1.63 m Hair: Brown
Weight: 42.00 kg Eyes: Brown
Appearance: While "in costume", Cheesecake wears a very tight, very revealing dress that she uses to her advantage against men. It is red with yellow highlights. She wears a red domino mask and red ballet slippers. From past descriptions of her exploits, it is known that she never wears underwear... Cheesecake herself is a dyed platinum blonde. Her physical appearance is flawless, and she could easily get work as a model. It is believed that her appearance was changed when she gained her abilities, as pre-kidnapping pictures of her show her to be an attractive, but certainly not astonishingly beautiful, young woman.Personality: Cheesecake takes great delight in toying with, seducing, sleeping with, and mostly humiliating men. She considers them toys to do with as she pleases, and has often strung a particularly good looking man along, using him for sexual services until she tires of him, then burning out his brain and leaving his body in an alley. In combat, she prefers to stay out of the direct fight, but won't hesitate to turn a group of male heroes against themselves, usually with a casually quipped "You guys aren't going to fight over little old me, now, are you?" which is precisely what she wants them to do.Quote:"Well... aren't you a big, strong man... I was wondering if you could do me a favor..."Background: Jennifer Mauden was once one of thousands of actors and dancers who lived in New York City, hoping to "make it" on Broadway. She appeared in the chorus of several shows, but was never cast in a speaking part. Her inability to fulfill her dreams of stardom eventually made her fall in with a circle of fellow actors whose main interests eventually stopped being auditioning and became getting high on heroin.

Her life probably would have ended in an overdose had her connection, a small time drug dealer named Leon, not sold her and some others of her fellow addicts to Brainchild. The mastermind needed a group of henchmen to keep the superheroes busy while he worked on his grand scheme to take over the national crime scene. After kidnapping the group, he injected all fourteen of them with an experimental formula he devised to empower normal humans. Only six survived.

After mental conditioning from Brain Child, Cheesecake and her surviving friends were dubbed "The Vandolls", and let loose to cause havoc, as a cover for Brain Child's other activities. When he no longer needed their "services", he cut them loose and left them for the authorities. They've been on their own ever since.

Powers/Tactics: Cheesecake constantly exudes a cloud of pheromones into the air around her. These pheromones weaken the wills of men (adult male humans) who breathe them, allowing her to control their actions, alter their perceptions, and destroy their synapses.Campaign Use: Cheesecake is an active member of the Vandolls supervillain team.

all slots Must Be Sexually Attracted to Cheesecake (-1/2)

*snicker*

Ummm... anyway, very good character. Only thing constructive I can come up with to say is... Are her pheramones so powerful that she just cannot smell anything other than herself (the flash defense)? If that is the case, then could you instead give her a little 5 point disadvantage of no sense of smell and use the points from the flash defense for something else? Just a thought...

Re: GGU NPCs For Review

I see the mental powers are cumulative, but there's no multiple on the cum?

Is it an intentionally weak effect? Wouldn't get more than one level on most normals...

I left it at baseline intentionally, then waited for commentary. What would you suggest her multiple be?

The Sun

My honest opinion is that there doesn't seem to be enough plot hooks for the character. I believe members of the Major Arcane should be almost loaded down with plot hooks. He seems a little vanilla.

Cheesecake

Great character.

She wears a domino mask, also black. Lastly, she wears black tennis shoes (usually with white ankle socks).Personality: Knockout comes close to being the classic, stereotypical bully. Where she differs is that she merely hates those she considers weaker... and unlike most real bullies, she doesn't back down if stood up to. Knockout is protective of women, and pretty much assumes that all men are rapists, unfaithful, and horrid. (This comes from her time as a hooker.) She is loyal to Penny Ante, but is sometimes distant towards the other members of the Vandolls. She particularly dislikes Cheesecake.

She shares her greatest loathing for Vindicator, whom she wants to seriously hurt before killing.

Quote:"Time to bleed, lambchop..."Background: Teri O'Brien was once one of thousands of actors and dancers who lived in New York City, hoping to "make it" on Broadway. Unlike most others with this dream, however, she rarely ever did anything about it. Rather, she seemed content to simply hang out with those who did. She eventually fell into a heroin habit. To keep herself in narcotics, she became a part time prostitute in the employ of her connection, a small time drug dealer named Leon.

Her life probably would have ended in an overdose had her connection, a small time drug dealer named Leon, not sold her and some others of her fellow addicts to Brainchild. The mastermind needed a group of henchmen to keep the superheroes busy while he worked on his grand scheme to take over the New York crime scene. After kidnapping the group, he injected all fourteen of them with an experimental formula he devised to empower normal humans. Only six survived.

After mental conditioning from Brain Child, Knockout and her surviving friends were dubbed "The Vandolls", and let loose to cause havoc as a cover for Brain Child's other activities. When he no longer needed their "services", he cut them loose and left them for the authorities. They've been on their own ever since.

In the last several years, Knockout has had several dustups with the Global Guardian called Vindicator. Vindicator has indicated to Knockout that they were sisters and that she, Vindicator, wants to help Knockout "get out of the life". Knockout thinks she's crazy, refusing to believe anything Vindicator has to say.

Powers/Tactics: Knockout seems to be an incarnation of the classical "amazon" image. She is tall, muscular without being grotesque, and beautiful. Knockout is incredibly strong and hard to hurt. She is an unskilled hand-to-hand combatant (having spurned Penny Ante's offer to teach her), feeling that her incredible strength is enough. Just in case its not, she carries a .44 Magnum revolver, which she is not hesitant to use.Campaign Use: Knockout is a member of the Vandolls, a villain team in the Global Guardians Universe.

Re: GGU NPCs For Review

Personality: Ohlenschlager is discrete and immaculate in everything he does. He laughs when appropriate, but is mostly reserved and flawless. He avoids relationships of all kinds and is most at ease alone in a gallery or far above the world. As a member of Tarot's Major Arcana, The Sun embodies an unalterable loyalty which is rarely matched amongst his peers.

I guess that what I'm missing here is a sense of the character's motivation. What has made him a member of Tarot? Why doesn't he question the Emperor? What about him earns him the loyalty he seems to receive. I get why Tarot might want him, but I don't get much about the core of his being. As a GM, I'd have difficulty running him, not knowing what he wants or needs.

Re: GGU NPCs For Review

At first reading, Cheesecake and Knockout seem just fine (although Cheesecake's power level seems pretty high). I've got no worries. Knockout doesn't seem very vanilla to me for the kind of role she will probably play in a campaign. Were she a PC, she'd probably need to be more well-rounded. But as an NPC member of a team, she's probably just fine.

Re: GGU NPCs For Review

I see some potential to turn the direction of the Cheesecake and Knockout concept on its ear.

Cheesecake could very well be able to establish a host of followers. Perhaps, she uses that 15 intelligence to build a permanent base of support? Perhaps, she finds a super man who is a reliable stand-by, a henchman, of extraordinary utility? - sort of like the Executioner to the Enchantress

Knockout hates men but what if she loves one man - a man who embodies everything that contradicts her previous experiences and what she wants to believe is the truth concerning men? Of course, she would be in denial.

What if that man was a superhero? :eg:

and/or

What if that man was the henchman of Cheesecake? :sneaky:

Re: GGU NPCs For Review

Do Cheesecake's (Gotta love that name) powers affect Lesbian or bisexual women as well?[/Quote]

Sure. That's why he wrote it as "Must Be Sexually Attracted to Cheesecake" instead of "Men Only." And presumably, it wouldn't work on anyone who's not attracted to women.

Should she have a minor ohysical limitation:Reduced Sense of smell/taste? and a distinctive feature detectable by enhanced smell?

I think that this was covered above.

It does occur to me that she definitely could do with a pair of Distinctive Features Disadvantages--the smell one from the Pheremones (this would only be distinctive to a select group) that was mentioned above, plus I think she'd be a good candidate for Distinctive Features: Unearthly Beauty.

Ah, so something like "The Sun's loyalty to Tarot stems from the fact that the criminal organization has made him very rich, and very comfortable, and he enjoys the fruits of both. In addition, he enjoys the respect he receives in the supervillain community by merely mentioning who he works for."

Oh, and FYI, Rob: I see the color blue as one of many shades of either black or gray. I had to quote this message (and thus see it as black letters on white) to be able to read it.

Yeah, that should help clear things up. I'll try to keep away from blue messages here in the future.

I may well give her the scent DF, but the other... she's not an unearthly beauty to you if you're not affected by the Pheremones.
