Cancer
Re: The Last Word Not only is it a place, but for me it's a place with a heavy emotional loading.
AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word Well, considering the context I know it in is built to carry heavy loads, that seems appropriate, somehow.
Cancer
Re: The Last Word Heh, forgot about the car-mount carrier stuff. Well, it's good that there's something positive with the name.
AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word Yeah, my work sells the stuff (as well as Thule, which no one knows how to pronounce), so it's what I think of when I hear "Yakima."

lemming
Re: The Last Word Yakima is a PLACE? This is like when I found Patagonia on a map. My cousin used to live there. I visited once. I'm much more impressed with the racks. And the company is also involved with the Kinetic Sculpture race in Eureka, so I knew of them there. Cancer
Re: The Last Word I'm much more impressed with the [Yakima] racks [than the place]. Quite correctly so. If the Zombie Plague were to start there, it would also end there. No brains to feed on.
AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word "Thule" is pronounced as written. You LIE! It's "TOO-lee". My cousin used to live there. I visited once. I'm much more impressed with the racks. And the company is also involved with the Kinetic Sculpture race in Eureka, so I knew of them there. That third sentence made me do a double-take, then I remembered I'd mentioned Yakima as a rack company. So that wasn't a commentary on the bountiful busts of the fair state of Washington? Cancer
Re: The Last Word I tend not to associate the term "rack" in that sense with the term "company" in that sense either, so your interpretation of Lemming's comment slipped past me completely. Cancer
Re: The Last Word I have. I think I do more needle-thread work at my house than my wife does. Of course, most of that is repairing buttons and holes in pockets.
AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word I won't be sewing in anger. That way lies tears and heartache. I have a hard enough time doing it when I'm calm and happy. No, I will be determinedly ignoring instructions that make no sense (I didn't do that on Saturday, and wound up swearing at inert fabric for three hours), and convincing myself all that work will be worth it when I look like someone else entirely for a few hours this Saturday. Cancer
Re: The Last Word Apparently the momcat & one kitten have already been adopted from the shelter after my wife returned them all late Friday afternoon. We have adopted one (and she'll be given to my sister-in-law when the latter returns from her vacation) and one other is still with us while recovering from some repair work. That leaves four kittens still out there.
