AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word Ah. I don't think there were any child predators around where I grew up, but there were always stories of kids being picked up in a mysterious van. I never learned if there was any truth to such tales, because I never heard firsthand stories; just rumor and conjecture from parents. Cancer
Re: The Last Word Mom occasionally hinted at the concept of child predators, but we were brought up so paranoid and suspicious that there was little chance of us accepting anything even from people we knew reasonably well. That doesn't stop by-force abduction of course, but that's rare.

Cancer
Re: The Last Word Anyway, while I'm not unconcerned about such types now, with my kids at 10.5 and 12 there's a different sort of nightmare looming over my horizon. AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word Quite true. I'm suspicious of anyone who claims to be normal. They're either lying, or living in a vortex of extreme boredom.
Cancer
Re: The Last Word On the contrary, there is such a thing as normal. It's just that everyday use of the term, in particular with regard to people, is inconsistent with the formal definition.

AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word Many numbers, in fact: height, weight, length, test scores, probably some form of ID number . . . Put together, all of those are perfectly unique, though you may share any one number with a lot of other people.

Cancer
Re: The Last Word Six billion' date=' last I checked.[/quote'] Probably too low. How many cylinders in that manifold? Infinitely many.
AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word Probably too low. There are more than six billion people on Earth, now? I'm sure that number's gone up marginally since we reached that mark, but much higher than that? Or is that just the population of the US? I always forget. Well, about half the people who have ever lived are alive now, and I guess 6e+9 (Americans call that 6 billion) is the right ball park for the number alive now. DAmn! The gas milage must suck. Yes, but think of the power....
