Re: hit location

This is probably a matter of how fast you want to play it out.

Having the attacker roll the to-hit and the location at the same time plays faster. Having the defender be forced to make a descision on an aborted action first might help prevent meta-gaming.

Try out both and see which is more comfortable in play. I'm leaning on having the attacker roll as many of their needed dice as possible all at once.

Something like picking up seven dice - greens are to-hit, whites are location, and the pink one is damage. Roll them all and move on.

If under that situation I wanted to prevent a defender from basing the abort choice on knowing the damage I'd have them declare it -BEFORE- the to-hit roll, like this:

If the monkey hits, I'm going to abort to a block. Then when the monkey hits he has to abort, even though he sees a damage roll of 1.

Re: hit location

If you're playing it by the book, it should be something like this:

GM- "The villain is going to attack you with XX attack."

Player- choses to abort to Block or Dodge

GM- If Dodging, the target number to hit is altered and attack dice are rolled. If Blocking is successful, then NO attack dice are rolled. If Block was not successful then target number to hit is altered and attack dice are rolled.

Of course Blocking and Dodging are only two of the many things you can do.

And yes, if you're rolling to hit then you can roll location at the same time - it wouldn't hurt and might speed up rolling a bit.

Re: hit location

I usually call for the Hit Location roll after the initial attack roll, but before damage roll. Using 6 dice at the same time as suggested above for both the attack roll and the Hit location is a great time saver (just make sure you have different color dice to differentiate)

Of course, as mentioned above, any attempts to Block or Dodge must be stated before the attack roll is made.
