NuSoardGraphite
Re: A new take on "Deadly Blow" When it comes to Hand Killing Attack, adding 1 or 2 DC's of Base Damage is more than enough, trust me. With CSL's, STR and martial maneuvers, they'll be hitting their maximums. Take a Two handed sword. Normal base damage is 6 DC (2D6K) but adding the normal 3DC's of Deadly blow increases that to 9 DC (3D6K) with a maximum of 18 DC! (6D6K!). In a heroic level fantasy game, such a weapon would kill just about everything. Allowing a 1 or 2 DC increase will give warrior types enough boost to take their favored weapons damage into the stratosphere without getting too unbalancing (with a mere +1DC increase, the maximum damage of a Two handed sword increases to 14 DC or 4 1/2D6K)
Greg
Re: A new take on "Deadly Blow" I just thought of another question that maybe someone could answer. Is there a reason Deadly Blow is built as an OIF instead of an OAF. Being that swords, etc... are all built as OAFs.
Markdoc
Re: A new take on "Deadly Blow" Because once your OAF is taken away it's "bye-bye power" til you get it back somehow. For things that harder to remove, we use OIF (weapon of opportunity) since you can readily get a new one. So if you have a power that requires you have your special family heirloom sword, that's OAF, because it can be taken away. If on the other hand you have a power that requires any sword it's classed as OIF, simply since if it's taken away you can knock over a guard and use his, or run off to Bob's Used Swords and get a new one, or carry two swords, etc etc. cheers, Mark
Roy_The_Ruthles
Re: A new take on "Deadly Blow" my game even defines OAF as just swords, and OIF as "anything of opportunity that would deal damage" so deady blow would work (with OIF) with a knife or a sword, but not a spoon. On the other hand, we're not allowed to buy Deadly blow unless it's very limited (like only vs. trolls to be a better monster slayer)
Greg
Re: A new take on "Deadly Blow" My one player who has taken it so far essentially took "spear master" and can use it only with spears, paticularly the specific style of spear he uses for his martial arst (can't remember the name). It sounds like it'd still be built with OIF since he could use any spear of that style whereas the spear itself is OAF in reference to itself.
