help wanted creating DOSPA liaison

Hi all,

Forgot to let you know that it'll be a Dark Champions campaign set in Gotham City, New Jersey, yes, Batman's a main charactor, and that the liaison lives in the Batcave with Batman's support staff. Lady Arcane, a mage Batman knows, set up a gateway that connects the Batcave to Eagle Air Force Base (where the Batcopter and Batjet are), the Gotham Navy Yard on Tricorner Island (where the Batboat is), Lady Arcane's house itself, which isn't accessable to the heroes, and a building in a world where all life died out in 1969. They use the building for additional living space.

Opps, before I forget, the staff is a mother and daughter team. The mother is a highly-skilled nurse and the daughter is a techie ninja who prefers to design, build and repair equipment instead of hunting crooks.

Also, Batman lets an NPC team, the Slayer and her associates use the Batcave. That's right, folks. The Hellmouth is near Gotham City. Why else would its crime rate be so high?

Yours,

Mark Rand

Hi all,

Here's more stuff that I forgot to mension. The game isn't in the Champions Universe. Jonathan Hayes is the President and the general public knows of no ETs on Earth. As far as Batman goes, we're using the Batman animated timeline. While the heroes can't enter Lady Arcane's house, the support staff, liaison(s) and the Slayer and her team can.

Since we're not in the Champions Universe, there can be more than one liaison. The DOSPA liaison is an agency case officer and his wife is a nurse who served as a nurse working with an emergency helicopter team. An intelligence agency has sent as a liaison team a married couple. He's a regular agent. She's an expert at black bag jobs. The FBI and PRIMUS have liaisons, too, but I havn't come up with them, let. I'll let you know when I do and I hope to here from some of you, soon.

Yours,

Mark Rand

Hi all,

A belated thank you to Hermit for posting to this thread. I'm giving serious thought to droping DOSPA from my universe and letting PRIMUS assign a liaison.

There may be other changes, too. However, I'm still not sure.

Sorry I didn't post more, but DOPSA is kind of 'new' to me as well, and other than telling you to rip off the examples in published projects I'm not sure what to advise.

As for a background, perhaps the guy , while normal himself, had a hero in the family tree? Either his father, grandfather (or mother, grandmother) was a super hero decades ago before dying or retiring?

Hi all,

Sorry to take so long to reply. Good idea, Hermit. The Golden Age Shadowcat just became his maternal grandmother and his wife's still a nurse.

In other news, the intelligence agency sent only one liaison. She's the black-bag ops specialist. The FBI and PRIMUS have sent regular agents.

Why do they do this? Simple. It's politics, and the fact that the agency bigwigs don't trust each other.

Also, Batman's techie/ninja engineer was the only staff until the liaisons came.

Mark Rand

Hi all,

I've made changes, again. The campaign will be set in Millennium City with my team replacing the original iconic Champions.

We're not in the Champions Universe. This one has Immortals (as In "Highlander"), the Stargate (as in "Stargate SG-1") and vampires and Slayers (as in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer").

The public is aware that Immortals exist. Since the world has superheroes, the Society of Watchers felt that the world was ready to know that Immortals exist and has had some chronicles published.

The Stargate's existance isn't public knowledge, yet. When the public finds out about it, I suspect that PRIMUS, UNTIL, the police, the FBI and local heroes will offer their aid in protecting it and DOSPA, the United Nations, NASA and the State Department will insist on sending liaisons there.

The existance of vampires and the Slayer is known to only a few intelligence and law enforcement agencies.

Yours,

Mark Rand

Hi all,

Yeah, Hermit, I have my hands full, and I'm loving it. Besides my two heroes, Guardian and Sorceress, not to mension Chloe, Sorceress's black cat familiar, I have a Primus liaison, who's based on Shelley's Beth Davies, an intelligence agent, based on the Wild Hunt's Emma Morrow Wilson, and a silver avenger, wjo looks like Maria Chow and is, more or less, Treey Kestler with ninja training and Matye Sanchez's love of extreme sports.

As far as the Hellmouth and Stargate go, they are, at least, 15-miles apart.

Clear skies,

Mark Rand

Hi all,

Just wondering what the DOSPA's reaction would be to Immortals, the Stargate and the Slayer (and the Hellmouth). Also, how would to, if they're included, the MIB (from the movies) and the goings on in Perfection (from the Tremors movies and tv series). The liaison would, I think, mirror the agency opinions.

Hi all,

It's been over a month since anyone replied to this thread, and I was the last to do so.

I' ve finally decided to do a Batman campaign in a version of the Champions Universe where, as far as the public knows, there are no aliens on Earth and various agencies assign liaisons to superhero teams. Wondering who would defend Gotham if something happened to him or his partner, Batgirl, Batman has created the Bat Team.

Would the DOSPA liaison work out of the Batcave or the Federal Building?

Would he be a bureaucrat, former member of the military, a member of the law enforcement community assigned to the DOSPA, or a member of the intelligence community assigned to the DOSPA?

Assuming he works out of the Batcave, would he bring family members, other DOSPA or military or intelligence experts with him? If so, what would be their skills?

As always, comment is invited.

Yours,

Mark Rand

Hi all,

The day after I wrote the above post, I began to wonder if I made the right decision in sticking with Gotham City. I then decided on a way to figure where I should have my campaign, let fate do it. The campaign location will also decide where Prefection Valley, from "Tremors" is. Is it in the Nevada Rockies, the New Jersey Appalachian Mountains or the Pennsylvania Appalachin Mountains.

I'll roll 4D6 and post the results here. If the result is 10-. it's Gotham City. If it's 18+, the campaign'll be in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where I am right now. Las Vegas gets the other numbers. Ready? Here we go.

The first die is a 5. The second die is a 1. The total is 6. All cities are still in play. The third die is 5. The total is 11. Gotham City is no longer in play. The last number is 1. The total is 12. The dice have spoken. The campaign's in Las Vegas and Perfection Valley's in the Nevada Rockies.

It'll be a blast.

Hi all,

When I rolled the dice to determine the campaign city the last time, I forgot San Angelo, California (published by Gold Rush Games) and Washington, D.C. Since no combination of six-sided dice will generate a group of numbers that can be divided into five equal parts, a ten-sided die, left over from my D&D days, will be used.

Gotham City, New Jersey - 1, 2

Las Vegas, Nevada - 3, 4

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - 5, 6

San Angelo, California - 7, 8

Washington, D.C. - 9, 0

I have the die. Here is the roll. It's a 2. Gotham City, New Jersey is chosen.

Look for a thread, starting soon, about the Bat Team, the Batcave and the Gotham area.

Hi all,

Good questions from ChuckB. Since we're taking Gotham from the "Batman: the Animated Adventures" and placing it in an alternate version of the CU, there is no Smallville. Dr. Bellows retired from the military in 1982 and passed away in 1987. I'm not sure if Xena is still alive.

My version of the CU has John Collingsworth as the President of the United States. As far as the public knows, no other planets have life on them and people think of magic wielders (sp) as being colorful energy projectors.

Because of politics, and the fact that agencies don't trust each other, the DOSPA isn't the only federal agency to send liaisons to superhero teams.

Batman doesn't like the government liaisons, but has forced himself to put up with them.
