SKJAM!
Re: Needed: Quirks from TV/Movies/Comics One quirk seen frequently in manga/anime is the character who has a verbal tic such that they end most sentences with a particular phrase or nonsense sound de gozaru. It's effective for making them stand out, but can quickly become tiresome nyo. It's best not to stick it on to each and every sentence, yanowhaddimean? Alverant
Re: Needed: Quirks from TV/Movies/Comics I think that verbal tic is just the translators trying to fill up space. Because of the language difference, a sentence in English can be shorter than the original Japanese. So these nonsense sounds at the end of sentences is just so there's not silence while the mouth is still moving. Another reason is anime has more segments where no one says anything (usually during the stock footage) and we're more used to seeing the characters talk almost all the time. So they fill in the silent time with one-liners.
SKJAM!
Re: Needed: Quirks from TV/Movies/Comics Nope, these are all in the original Japanese. Sometimes they're translated directed, sometimes loosely translated, sometimes just ignored. For example, Kenshin's habitual "de gozaru" at the end of sentences is often rendered in English as "that it is."
AliceTheOwl
Re: Needed: Quirks from TV/Movies/Comics It DOES serve a purpose, though. It marks him as speaking in polite, humble sentences. Now Chichiri's no da . . . THAT was just odd.
Brother Jim
Re: Needed: Quirks from TV/Movies/Comics And considering the type of "porn" they'd be looking at (cheesecake with a side of T&A)' date=' I doubt it would be all that bad if we did. I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that the really icky-bad smut in Japan is mostly read by [i']sarariman[/i] - salarymen - and are only occasionally seen by your typical teenager. Much like reading your dad's Playboy as a kid. if my memory is correct, they (kids) had access to the "icky" porn in the book stores. i just have no idea if they could buy it. ask oddhat, i think i remember him mentioning that he lived in japan before (it might not have been him though, memory is failing on this.).
