What's the big deal?

Re: What's the big deal?

This is a good point' date=' but from the sfx POV I'd be inclined to say that you don't shrink or get (much) lighter unless the str drain was designed with that in mind. So, sfx: you are draining the power, but the limitation doesn't go away necessarily.[/quote'] If all you are Draining is STR, nobody shrinks. If you are Draining Growth, characters with Growth shrink. I'd still like to see a descent write up of a "shrink ray" though, that drains STR and makes the target's smaller (but not really weaker, proportionately, because their reduced mass is light enough to be handled by their reduced STR).

This leads me to an interesting question. Megalith has STR of 30 and 30 points of Hero standard growth. He is big, so has 60 strength when he is drained of 20 strength. He shrinks back down to normal size. What is his current strength?

He's have 10 STR if he turned off his Groth after getting Drained of 20 points of STR.

Any of the crusty old gamers familiar with Superworld from Chaosium. They had a SIZE stat and Growth and Shrinking worked like a dream. Same Basic Role-Playing System as most other Chaosium games also, so it was a piece of cake to import in Chthulu nasties and even Runequest critters.

Re: What's the big deal?

One of the problems with current Hero growth is that it is another hidden template: it assumes that you are a certain shape and just ge bigger. If you turn into a tyrannosaur' date=' you may be big, but you have really short arms. Being big does not necessarily mean you have a lot of reach.[/quote']

I wouldn't model a Tyrannosaur with Growth, at all.

But it does beg the question... what if you're a growing/shrinking tyrannosaur, your reach may not increase all that much as you grow...

Yes Hero does assume a certain shape, they even put it on the front of the Main Rulebook as proof.
