DataPacRat
AreaKs and CityKs are easy to come up with - you can just throw darts at a map. However, CultureKs are a bit harder to define. Does 'Western Civilization' fit as a CuK? 'Chinese'? 'India'? 'Muslim'? 'High-Society'? 'Business'? 'Online Culture'? 'Underworld'? 'Street Gang'? Is there a list handy of CuKs for the current-day real Earth?
Dust Raven
Re: Present-Day CultureKnowledges? I don't know of any "handy lists" out there specifically for Culture Knowledges, but all of those you mentioned sound reasonable, so long as both the player and GM agree on the breadth of each. ghost-angel
Re: Present-Day CultureKnowledges? Any suffitiently different culture really. CuK: Russian would get you some idioms and expressions for various areas, superstitions and all sorts of little tweaks. Culture Shock is still a very real phenomenon despite the Western World's homoginization of everything.
Vondy
Re: Present-Day CultureKnowledges? I would simply define it based on specificity. The more specific the knowledge is the more useful it is within that specific sector, and the less useful it would be outside of it. For instance, a character with: CuK: Asian Cultures, would have a general idea of the cultural morays in Asia in general terms and how these cultures interact on a macroscopic level, but would not necessarily be able to garner any specific data on inter-chinese ethnic dynamics. He'd know China has 40+ ethnic sub-groups, but not what they are or how they interelate. Someone with CuK: Chinese Culture, however, would have a much better knowlege of these interelations, but he might be sketchy on other asian cultures at best, and not be able to give a detailed explanation of the more obscure customs and traditions of various ethnic sub-groups. And someone with CuK: Chinese Ethic Sub-Grouping would be able to tell you all the obscure tribal and ethnic details, but could only discuss other Chinese ethnic groups in more general terms. Using something I know as a breakdown (though the list is far from complete), with three levels of specificity: Jewish Culture -Ashkenazi Culture --Hungarish Subulture --Litvish Subculture --French Ashkenazi Subculture -Sephardic Culture --Temani Subculture --Moroccan Subculture --Syrian-Iraq Subculture --Marrano Subculture -Ethiopian Culture --Falasha Murah Subculture -Hassidic Culture --Chabad Subculture --Breslov Subculture -Secular Jewish Culture
