Arac-4105
Re: How a team fits in its world (team types) One I'm surprised hasn't come up is The Spandex Social Club: The heroes from around the country or the world gather together because they're the only ones with powers. They have unique problems only other powered heroes could understand, and work/relax together just for the social aspect.
Egyptoid
Re: How a team fits in its world (team types) 1) in my old JLA campaign there was an island off the gulf coast called Sanctuarie that was a no-powers zone. any metahuman could go there and mingle and hide. it was neutral ground. 2) in my current marvel campaign the groups heirarchy is like this: AVENGERS: front line "army", good PR. THUNDERBOLTS: second line "special forces". not much PR. STRIKE FORCE THETA: expendable "dirty dozen" types. better not be any PR. SF:T are the PCs of course. They get the "latrine-material" jobs the Avengers don't want or can't be seen doing.
BlackSword
Re: How a team fits in its world (team types) The Legacy Team - They were the first super-heroes. Sure some of the newer heroes have more power, or flashier powers and kewl costumes, but these are the heroes who have been there and done that. While they have seen some of their friends pass from this mortal coil, they have also seen the children and legacies of the great heroes rise to take their place. Their job is not just to stand as reminders of the past, but to also help train the next generation of heroes in the ideals of their predacessors. Example (if you have to ask ): JSA

Example (if you have to ask ): JSA A follow-up to the Legacy Team or any other team type is The Last Team: They are the only super powered survivors of a catalysmic event that involved almost every hero (and Villian) on the planet. Think about Marvel Zombies as a example. (Not the zombies, the surviving (still human) heroes/villians)

The Freak Team A team comprised of the wierd and frightening. Despite their outward appearances they strike out on missions of good - Doom Patrol
