New Disad:POWER BY Association.

This may be an old article and an old idea but I've been purusing the books for ideas for new disads and I came upon some from Palladium Books' superhero RPG HEROES UNLIMITED, a assortment of new Pcyhological Limitations that can be linke with your PC's Origin.

It's Called Power by association and I'm gonna list some down below.

POPEYE Syndrome:Hero gains super powers by eating [he believes] a kind of food[Like POPEYE, ] digests the food and ZOWIE! Instant powerhouse.

Daylight syndrome: Believes that his powers come from daylight and that he'll lose his powers at night.

Nightime syndrome: Vice versa only the hero loses his by dawn.

Magic Words: Hero believes his power will activate by saying magic words, the more original the better.

POWER Objects Hero believes that his object gives him powers[an amulet,a stuffed toy,a baby blanket]

I know it sounds corny but think about it, some of the lesser known supers may have these origins or just the disads.

Here's the phantom's Challenge, create a PC with this Pcyh Lim in his disads

and include an origin story that details how he gained the disad along with his powers.

;)

When you say that these are psych lims, you are saying that the reason for the powers only working at certain times is purely psychological and that the character can actually access the powers at any time if can he can overcome the psychological block. Is that really what you mean to say?

Yes and No,

These lims are from a character creation section called "The Crazy hero"

HE can´t overcome the psychological block so to speak because he believes that his/her powers come from that association.

Most of thier abilites manifested while eating a particular food( POPEYE Syndrome) Out at night or the daytime(Daytime/Nightime Complex),holding a favored object(Magic Object syndrome) exposure to sunlight(Solar Syndrome),

or shouting some unfamilliar words ala Captian Marvel or Miracleman(Power Words) IF he´s convinced or shown that he has powers despite the limitation then he CAN overcome the block and buy it off, but old habits can die hard and he´ll be difficult to convince if his belief is very strong.

Re: New Disad:POWER BY Association.

I've got a character who believes all his powers come from a focus (when they don't).

You can build it as a PsychLim or a PhysLim. 6 of one...the points are the same.

So what kind of object wre we talking about? A childhood object/toy,

an old relic? be specific dude I wanna know. it's the objects that make a crazy hero.;)

Even though Psychological in source, the effect might be better off built as a Physical Disadvantage; "character cannot try to use powers until trigger condition has been fulfilled".

Re: New Disad:POWER BY Association.

With an crazy hero there are three words:

NOT AN OPTION!

depends on his skewed POV and the ton of faith he has Plus the power Must be based on the Disad, that's why we called this lim POWER BY ASSOCIATION!

besides this is not a limitation but a disadvantage which can take some points off your character and make him more human and less godlike.
