Steve Long
Re: The turakian age If you mean, what are their cultural or historical analogs, the answer is: I didn't have any in mind.
Bismark
Re: The turakian age Here are a couple that may 'fit the bill' for you: Sirrenic Empire = Byzantine Empire (try 9-10th century AD version) Hargeshite Empire of Vashkor = Sassanian Persia (with a few post-Islamic period bits added from the Samanid dynasty period). They work pretty well for my campaign...
Lord Liaden
Re: The turakian age The Sirrenic Empire nods toward the Roman Empire in some of its superficial trappings. It's organized into "provinces" rather than duchies/counties etc. Its army is known as "the Sirrenic Legions," and the elite unit guarding the Imperial family are called the "Eagle Guard." In fact the "Blood Eagle" is the symbol of the Empire. Slavery is also a prominent feature of its society and economy. OTOH it's a much more ethnically and culturally homogenous entity than the Roman Empire. (While Besruhan seems reminiscent of Republican Rome with a big dose of the labyrinthine politics of the Byzantine Empire.) I tend to think of the Hargeshite Empire of Vashkor as something of a cross between the Arab Caliphate and the Soviet Union. Like the former it's an entity created out of dedication to spreading a particular faith, by force when necessary. It also has something of a Middle Eastern feel, even including an analogue to the Great Arabian Desert. But like the Soviet Union it's a totalitarian state, with an enormous standing army, a vast internal spy network keeping the populace in check, and nominally-independent satellite states which ultimately answer to Vashkor's demands, or pay the price.
