Lycanthropy

Something's bugging me.

In the Bestiary, the Transform power that allows a lycanthrope to transform a victim into another werebeasty is bought Persistent (+1/2).

Why? I'm trying to figure out what Persistent means here. It's not a Damage Shield, so the only thing I can think of is that this means that you could use the fangs of an unconscious werethingie to infect someone.

That does sound weird. Is it continuous?

Re: Lycanthropy

Let's say I'm a werewolf and I bite you. I've just attacked you with a continuous Transform, which means I don't have to keep making attack rolls for the Transform to continue to effect you. Let's say the attack ISN'T persistant, just continuous. If I go to sleep, the Transform stops. If I get STUNNED or KO'd the Transform stops. Persistant means it keeps effecting you even if the attacker is KO'd sleeping killed or what have you.

That was my guess. If Continuous was included, it would make for a darn effective attack.

Re: Lycanthropy

It's persistent because it's always on. It's just making the transformation part of the chemistry of the creature rather then a conscious attack. Every time the creature bites you he is infecting you even though he's not actually trying to activate and use the transform.

That doth make sense. Thank you.

Re: Lycanthropy

In the grand scheme of things always on is "uncontrolled."

yeah... but the always on disad removes the "when the gm says so" aspect...

I think the point of the build was to have a way of handling without GM's intervention. Thus always on was chosen rather then uncontrolled.

Re: Lycanthropy

I think uncontroled might be a better advantage here...

As the others pointed out, Uncontrolled bring in GM fiat.

Not to mention Uncontrolled doesn't mean it's always there, it means it may or may not be there. Persistant (with or without Always On) means the Power is active regardless.

Not really... the character can turn it off at will when it is persistent...

Page 275 of 5ER says "A Persistent Power costs 0 END to maintain, and remains turned on until the character consciously decides to turn it off"

Yes.

But once on, the character needs take no further action to use the Power - it's on. Which is the crux of what I meant, which I wasn't very clear about.
