They're supposed to be meditated on to help achieve enlightenment. They are supposed to be answered, but this is no "right" answer. It would take a more complete explanation of the nature of Buddhism to really get into the hows and whys of a Koan answer. The pun is explained, I'm happy with that. A common sound heard in Zen monasteries: the desperate plea of, "Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!" ("Un-ask the question!" is the translation I'm familiar with.)
