Braintrade

This works best with a superhero with a team, or at least with numerous other superheroes in his/her town. Obviously if you're the only hero in your city, it probably doesn't apply...

A super villain, gifted with more luck than competence, ends up stealing a device with psychic energy manipulation properties. Your hero arrives on the scene, but he/she is not the only one as other superheroes also close in. In a panic, the villain hurls the object between you and it explodes!

You wake up, but not in your own body! Your mind has been transfered into the body of one of the other superheroes!

Feel free to roll to see the results:

1- Your character's mind is now in the body of the NPC/PC he/she is most attracted to romantically.

2- Your character's mind is now in the body of the NPC/PC who fits the opposing role niche (Leader in Rebel's body, joker in brooding angst guy's body, etc)

3- Your character's mind is now in the body of the NPC/PC you enjoy picking on most (even if meant playfully)

4- Your character's mind is now in the body of the NPC/PC who seemed to enjoy picking on YOU most (even if meant playfully)

5- Your character's mind is now in the body of the NPC/PC who's powers or power source is the most different from yours.

6- Your character's mind is now in the body of a DNPC who got too close. Doh!

Feel free to assume an even swap, or, for true confusion, make a few rolls for each PC/NPC in the group and see who gets what where huh? ;)

What's your character's reaction to his/her predicament? and WWYCD?

Re: Braintrade

Been there, done that. For my group, this isn't a WWYCD but WDYCD: "What Did Your Character Do?"

A technological villain group used a ray to have the heroes minds switch with each other. Now, this episode was done twice, once each for two different hero groups.

The more experienced group was bewildered but quickly figured out what had happened, none too please. They also realized they needed to find the machine raygun that had done it asap. Since the first group has been working with each other for years, they had a pretty good idea of how powerful, agile, strong, etc., they each were although they spent some time getting adjusted to their new strengths and weaknesses.

The second group weren't much less experienced but they didn't know each other's strengths and weaknesses that much. Some panicked, others didn't. The funny part started when someone who was agile and avoided getting hit got switched with someone with mega-powerarmor and asked: "Hey, how strong am I?" to their own body (who know had the mega-powerarmor user in it).

All in all, don't use this as a WWYCD... use it as an episode to throw at your group! You'll enjoy it as GM and the players will get a rare glimpse into how someone else's character plays out. Everyone will have a fun time, if not mildly confusing.

Re: Braintrade

My Character is a Female Superman-type in an all-male group so no matter who she got switched with she'd learn more about the male body than most unmarried Golden Age Ladies know. The toughest switch would be with the Time Traveller character from the Future as she'd have no idea how to use his devices or plane. The mystic Dr. Hyperion would also be tough as she knows nothing about magic. American Eagle is most similar power-wise but she'd have to rethink the flight and get used to those wings.
