Mark Rand
In the mid-1990s, a massive earthquake struck San Francisco, California, leveling all but the bridges that cross the bay. By the end of 2004, Bay City had risen from the ashes of San Francisco. The bay, which is still called San Francisco Bay, is home to a frequently-seen mermaid with brown hair, blue eyes, and golden scales covering her tail and breasts. She's friendly, a brilliant conversationalist, and has rescued a number of drowning people and stranded boaters. According to police, she resembles Paula Gray, a coed who was killed by a mad scientist, then thrown into the bay.
Mark Rand
Re: Bay City Like the San Francisco Bay Area, the area around Bay City abounds with lighthouses. Farallon Islands Lighthouse...20-miles west of the bay, not open to the public Point Bonita Lighthouse...north side of the bay, some buildings are open to the public Mile Rocks Lighthouse...2-miles SW of the Golden Gate Bridge, not open to the public Alcatraz Island Lighthouse...open to the public during tours Yerba Buena Island (Goat Island) Lighthouse...open to the public during tours East Brother Lighthouse...a bed and breakfast, tower not open to the public Roe Island Lighthouse...screw-pile lighthouse, open, by special arrangement, to the public Mare Island Lighthouse...on a navel shipyard not open to the public Edit: corrections in italics
Mark Rand
Re: Bay City In truth, Bay City isn't my creation. Steve Long and several other brilliant people created it for the Champions: New Millennium series. I'm just an admirer of their genus. Mark Rand
Re: Bay City Bay City started out as the Bay Area Cities Emergency Relief Council. Eventually, every community from San Francisco to Palo Alto was a member. Then, in 1995, the unthinkable happened. A 7.4-magnitude quake, that lasted for 57-seconds, struck the area, wrecking havoc. Eventually, they realized that making the area a giant metropolis would be a good idea and articles of incorporation were drawn up. Bay City now includes Berkeley and Oakland. The Altamont Motorsports Park, located in Alameda County, was also destroyed by the quake. It was replaced by Alameda County Speedway, which is a duplicate of the old Vaca Valley Raceway. Currently, it features a dragstrip, a 1.25-mile oval, and a 2.1-mile road course. Plans are in the works to add a 0.5-mile oval, a karting track, and a figure 8 course to the facility. Plans are also in the works for an annual vintage car race that will be held on the old 3.0-mile Golden Gate Park street circuit.
Mark Rand
Re: Bay City Bay City isn't in the Champions Universe. The United States Guard replaces both PRIMUS and the DOSPA. The Lodge replaces the Trimegistus Council. The Brotherhood Arcane replaces The Circle of the Scarlet Moon. At the start of the Millennium, mystical energies created The Pit, an opening, 100-yards in diameter, in McLaren Park. There are always at least six members of The Guard watching it. The Bay Area is home to many occult practitioners. Not all of them are associated with either The Lodge or The Brotherhood Arcane. On the side of good are three witches that an evil mage once called "The Lady of the Lake and her two under priestesses." The woman referred to as The Lady of the Lake can, at will, summon either the sword Excalibur, or a reasonable facsimile thereof. All three women are capable of wielding it. Oh, attached in a public domain image of the Bay Area earthquake faults that I found in the Wikipedia.

Anyone know what series these ladies are from? If so, post your guess here. To make things more interesting, each day I'll post one of the show's tag lines. Steve Long
Re: Bay City I can't claim much credit for creating Bay City. I added some details in the C:TNM books I wrote (or co-wrote), but the original creation was by Bruce Harlick and the others who conceived of the C:TNM universe. But I enjoyed getting to play around in their sandbox.
Mark Rand
Re: Bay City MythBusters is taped in Bay City. The hosts are Adam John Savage and James Earl "Jamie" Hyneman. The build team consists of Salvatore "Tory" Belleci, Kari Elizabeth Byron, and Scottie Chapman. M5 electronics guru Christine Chamberlain and stuntwoman Jessica Masters are among the contributers. Mark Rand
Re: Bay City In the campaign, American Gladiators is taped in Bay City, near Stanford University, instead of Los Angeles because the company that owns the show is based in Bay City. After the owners of Alameda County Speedway announced that they preferred to have only professional racing there, Palo Alto Raceway was built, using Denver's Second Creek Raceway as its model. The track owner and his wife are big supporters of amateur motorsports and the Girl Scouts.

Mark Rand
Re: Bay City Palo Alto Raceway is actually in the Menlo Park area, near the Dumbulton Bridge. They wanted to call it Menlo Park Raceway, but that name was already taken, by a 5/8-mile, limestone-surfaced, track for standardbred horses. Both tracks have Toyota, Holiday Inn, and Beth's (a local diner-style restaurant chain) as official sponsors. Today's tag line is, "Their mother always told them they were special." Mark Rand
Re: Bay City the disapearance of san francisco in the first post No. The earthquake occurred in January of 1995. The Charmed Ones were empowered in 1998.
Mark Rand
Re: Bay City We know that the Charmed Ones are in Bay City. The heroes will first encounter them while tracking a bad guy who likes to go to bars and clubs that have good music. Among those visited are Danny's (a jazz club), Zorba's (a Greek bar complete with belly dancers), and P3 (Piper's club). Now, for tonight's tag line, which is also the next to the last, "The Power of Three Will Set You Free."
Mark Rand
Re: Bay City I've made a couple of minor changes to my layout of Bay City. First, American Gladiators is taped at Bay City University's Peterson Center instead of near the Stanford University campus. Panther and Lace have admitted that they are employees of Bay City University's Instructional Resources department. Altamont Motorsports Park wasn't destroyed. Instead, the local racers aren't impressed with it. They prefer Alameda County Raceway, which is based on Denver's now defunct Second Creek Raceway. With that in mind, my friends, I present the last tag line. "Once lucky, Twice smart, Three times Charmed." If no correct answer has been received by Wednesday morning, I'll reveal the solution then. Mark Rand
Re: Bay City Here's some information about Bay City University. It's colors are blue and gold and its mascot is the panther (as in mountain lion). It's long axis is east and west. The instructional resources department, which includes distance education, is on the lower levels of the Theatre Arts and Communications Science building. The Team Defender house on the original layout is now the chancellor's official residence. The current chancellor, however, hasn't moved in. Instead, he, his wife, a civil engineer employed by the county, and their three Siamese cats live in a nearby apartment building. Surrounding the main part of the campus are the various health professions schools, Mercy General Hospital, the athletic buildings, which includes the Peterson Center, and the Wells Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science.
