Re: Help I Missed Something Obvious

HA and HKA get "Add STR" for free. EB and RKA get "Ranged" for free.

If you really wanted to, you could buy a bow as HKA and apply the Ranged Advantage to it.

You could also intuit that "Add STR" is a +1/2 Advantage and just apply that to a RKA if your GM allowed it.

There used to be an advantage in 4th Edition called "Can be thrown" which was a +1/4 if I recall and was useful for Daggers and such -- it kind of bundled up Ranged with Lockout, and Range Based On Strength into a easy and handy modifier, IIRC. You could take a similar approach if you cared to for Bows.

Also, I don't have my books w/ me (at work) but I seem to recall strength adding to bows being printed somewhere; perhaps Fantasy HERO. On the other hand, it might just be that more powerful bows have a higher STR Minimum so that only stronger characters can use them with the indirect effect that they do more damage thanx to their being stronger not by adding their STR directly but by virtue of being able to use a more powerful bow with a higher base damage.

Ghost Angel is the ultimate rules lawyer (in a good way); you might want to hit him up...

Re: Help I Missed Something Obvious

Fantasy Hero p170 for a discussion of Bows and STR. (Equipment Guide p12 has the same information)

You recall correctly - Higher STR Min bows simply do more damage - they go up in increments of One Damage Class for every few points of STR Min added.

The 4E "Can Be Thrown" Advantage was turned into "Ranged, Based On STR" Advantage in 5E, still worth +1/4 (5ER p267)

Thanks for the compliment, alas I cannot rep you for it.
