Did I Mention the Contest....

I'd like some additional serious entries for the New York Hero

for the USA 50 project. So I'm opening up a contest.

The Best Entries will have a picture, character sheet, and a reasonably fleshed out bio.

The idea is to produce a reasonably complete character sheet for a hero to represent New York on an all-American supers team.

Here's one of the better characters: Colorado

But even your character idea is just a one-liner, please submit it.

If you can't do a picture, we can work around that.

The best part is the concept, which should show out the theme of New York

Here's some inspirations Pix Thread

the USA 50 Thread and welcome page

The Original New York Invite...

the picture doesn't have to be in the DCU style, but it should be original.

Prize consists of:

1. The winning entry appearing in the USA 50 project, in whatever final form that may take.

2. The creator's name {or handle} being credited with praise alongside same.

3. Truck-Loads of Reputation Points on the Hero Boards.

4. Fifty Dollars, in the form of an E-Bay gift certificate, to be awarded in early December in time for the holidays.

Entries will be accepted until the last hour of the last day of November.

All entries will be posted online, and then:

A poll, of private voting, shall be conducted from Dec.2nd to Dec 9th.

Then the winner shall be added to the USA 50 project page,

and they'll have the E-Bay credits within 3 days after that.

Please post any questions or comments here.

I reserve the right to be final judge on any questions or issues in the contest, subject of course to any additional input or ideas of Steve and the Moderators, whom I thank in advance for hosting all this...

the contest is from me, and isn't sponsored by Hero Games except indirectly, the money comes from the Egyptoid.

Please post any entries (links or attachments are fine) in the Hero for New York Thread.

In the name of the City, County, and State of New York, I declare this contest open...

Re: I Can't Be Reasoned With and I Can't Be Stopped

Here is a fist entry for the New York hero. With this character I thought I would play on the cities reputation for irresponsible parents and kids who roam the streets at night. it may take a minute to get there but hopefully you like it. She's a bit on the expseivie side but I don't think there was ever a point limit established.

Background/History:

First wife of Adam? Bringer of plague? Seducer of the innocent? Taker of unwanted children? It is hard to remember all the details. Mortals forget the intimate details of their lives can we not be the same in this regard? Some call me goddess others demon. Perhaps both are right.

From the beginning my purpose was clear. Punish those mothers unfit to rear offspring; to end the suffering of these children and punish the patents. Over the centuries my skill at testing and tormenting the cruel and unfit has been raised to the level of art. Never had I questioned my purpose or my goal. That is, until I was cast from the mortal realm into the shadows and into myth.

For years I watched from the aether bond not to interfere silently observing. What I witnessed was the manipulations of those I once called brethren. Working their schemes, twisting, warping righteous men into monsters, elegant devices of murder were born and humanity learned, some would say perfected, the art of torture.

Faithful women, good women pushed to the edges of society to fall if only in the hopes to save their family. These were the women I once would torment. Now bound in the realm outside I was powerless to intervene, to aid. I watched as my art was twisted, made ugly as millions of parents were stripped of their children and slain outright. I watched and a weight rent my soul.

Finally, after four centuries a burgeoning mage was foolish enough to call be back. A petty man unskilled in his craft he sought revenge on his former lover, to hurt her, to make her pine and to torture herself over his loss. I was able to offer him this final request. The suffering he endured before he expired was clear on to those who found him. Those that found him could not enter the home and when this former lover saw him she cried. Bound by his foolish request I waited days before consoling her. I’m sure this would have satisfied the mage.

For the first time since the beginning of my memories I found myself with a new sense of purpose. In his blood I made a promise to protect those women and their child who can no longer protect themselves. It is how I found myself bound once again, drawn to the sin. Five cities within one, islands of suffering and decadence both in the extreme, this and known as New York. It is here I am drawn most of all. It is here where pain is unchecked and my will may serve the most good. So it is here I make my new home. I am Lilith, protector of woman, child and state

Re: I Can't Be Reasoned With and I Can't Be Stopped

Lady Liberty-Freedom Incarnate.

Literally the avatar of liberty and of the statue itself. She can fly, but only in the state of New York, she can turn into a metallic form with a huge damage reduction, She can grow up to the size of the actual statue, and she can increase her density the same. When she is fighting a slave-trader, she suddenly gets much more powerful.

Re: I Can't Be Reasoned With and I Can't Be Stopped

One more, born from an underrated quote from an underrated movie.

"That phone call I got, it came from outside high walls and fancy gates; it comes from a place you know about maybe from the movies. But I come from out there, and everybody out there knows, everybody lies: cops lie, newspapers lie, parent's lyin'. The one thing you can count on - word on the street... yeah, that's solid."

Gaia, Mother Goddess has born many a child, good and evil. The Street is born of the City. From Ur, to Rome to New York, the City has resided infusing those who lived within her boarders to grow strong. Yet, the City had long ago grown too large. No longer could the City weed out the evil and corruption that plagued her body.

Collecting the bile and the hate the City shaped it gave it form and breathed life into its body. This dark offspring was named the Street, embodiment of all that which plagues its mother. The City cursed her spawn that it would forever reflect the sin that still dwelled within her. With this curse she made a promise. Purge the darkness from your mother’s body, end the suffering caused by the evil within you and be freed from your torments.

This is the legend of the Street, spirit of the City’s darkness. In the alleyways they whisper that the Street is the key to the City. Gangs, mafia all are torn between fear of this monster born of their crimes and the promise of power locked within it. Some are foolish, believing that the Street is only a myth. There are too many who have learned the truth. The Street is alive, it breaths and it watches over the City.

Quote: "I know all your secrets. I know all the lies."

The Street

Re: I Can't Be Reasoned With and I Can't Be Stopped

i thought it would be good to create a hero who wasn't from New york city but represented some other part of the state after all there is a whole lot more to new york state than just the big apple. so i present

CAPTAIN NIAGARA (or possibly BIG THUNDER)

Lewis Greene was born in Niagara Falls NY in 1970 to Hamilton and jean Greene.

Hamilton worked at the local chemical works and eth family lived in the low cost housing in the neighbourhood of Love canal and attended the 99th street school both these locations would soon become infamous as the site of massive toxic dumping and the first superfund cleanup.

The aftermath of Love canal would make Niagara falls one of the hot beds of spontaneous super human manifestation in America to this day Niagara falls has one of the highest per capita rates of super power related incidents in America.

But this didn’t Effect Lewis Greene he seemed like one of the lucky ones part of eth 43% of kids from the area unaffected by the toxic chemicals in the environment. Lewis always had perfect health not a broken bone or even a cold.

Lewis seemed like an unlikely hero he loved the falls he’d been hooked on the power of the falls his whole life and became a tour guide due to his encyclopaedic knowledge of the falls.

Lewis would have stayed that way but fate intervened.

One normal summers day at the falls an out of control bus sped towards one of his co-workers. Without thinking Lewis sprinted trying to push her out of its path but he wasn’t quick enough and all he could do was shield her with his own body.

Much to the dismay of the onlookers the coach slammed into the two prone figures and then to their amazement the shattered front of the bus pushed away and Lewis and his co worker stepped from the wreckage unharmed. Lewis felt himself filled with incredible strength.

According to the scientist who came to interview and test Lewis he is a kinetic energy absorber which his body then uses to create a force field that grants him remarkable strength and resilience and most remarkably of all the ability to fly (which really freaked Lewis out when he discovered it)

Lewis discovered that the best source of energy to absorb was his beloved falls and with the mighty power of those raging waters he became incredibly powerful.

All Lewis ever wanted to do was be close to the falls and help people so he volunteered to the local police receiving training and soon he was approached by the state police becoming there go to superhero for emergencies all over the state of New York. With so many heroes tied up with super crime in the major metropolitan areas Captain Niagara’s willingness to travel all over the state soon made him the most popular hero outside of NYC and when the state government was trying to select a champion to represent not just the cities but the whole state Captain Niagara was the obvious choice.

Lewis Greene is a true Boy Scout style super hero he believes in being a good influence and doesn’t swear lie and always strives to use the least possible force. Hess a genuine and friendly man which often puts more cynical heroes on the guard but most soon warm to him. Finally anyone who knows him for any length of time knows to avoid the subject of Niagara Falls as he can talk for literally hours about every facet of their geology history and symbolism. (He has in fact written two books on the subject).

Captain Niagara tries to spend at least an hour a day within the flow of water from the falls absorbing energy so he will away shave enough energy for a crisis. When he has a difficult problem to solve he will often spend more time there as he believes it helps him think.

He has a secret base located in the remains of the original cave of the winds behind Bridal Veil Falls one of the smaller sections of the falls.
