Blue Man

I may call him something else but for now he is Blue man. I gave up on my retarded hero due to him seeming rather bland. So, with the player who wanted three characters in one body switching to a straight up energy projector... I decided to pounce on the idea. I was inspired by watching a Blue Man Group performance (goofy I know but I thought it would provide a lot of role playing potential) so I based my character of of them. I am also using 4th edition so if this needs to be adjusted for 5th ed. let me know because I plan on getting it soon.

Blue Man (375 point campaign, may do some minor tweaking)

Accidental Change: unwanted duplication when stressed

Distinctive Features: Blue skin and golden eyes (Major reaction/ hard to conceal)

Hunted By: Homeworld aliens

Hunted By: US Government (of course)

Physical Limitation: Totally mute

Psychological Limitation: Extremely Curious

Psychological Limitation: Code vs. Killing

Susceptibility: Saccharin, Nutrasweet, Alum (thought the first 2 would be funny)

Unluck: 4d6 (yikes)

Vulnerability: x2 Stun from Sonics

Vulnerability: x2 Stun from solidification attacks (may change)

I left the point values for the Disadvantages out because I am not sure how I want to distribute them. So.....

Tell me what you think. Ideas. Likes or dislikes. He/they will eventually become the team's scientist.

Thanks.

Re: Blue Man

I'm not sure about your group, but 4 spd (duplication should fix this though) can be criplingly slow. Every one in my ~equal points group has a 6 speed except myself (spd5), a spd7, and a spd8. Its a large group, so I find myself outpaced a lot. Unluck is a blank check for a GM (so probably suicide for you and your team) and any x2 body vulnerability can quickly kill your character (and whats with the sonic vulnerability anyway?). Mute characters might get annoying if you aren't careful. I don't see any super-interesting powers (duplication opens some possibilities though, try adding the teamwork skill). Interesting concept, but you might be over-shadowed in combat and miming might limit roleplaying options. Check up on the other players and make sure your defenses (lacking rPD, rED, mental, power, and flash), attacks (melee 3x8d6 max), and movement/senses (no other senses, no increased/special movement) measures up.

Sorry, I'm just playing devil's advocate.

Re: Blue Man

Well, I did open this up for critique. In my defense though this is probably my third character ever made so I'm not up to you guys' level yet. I have 4 SPD because it is expensive and I wanted to be able to afford 2 duplicates but I may be able to tweak up to a 6. I chose the sonic vulnerability because I wanted his (alien) race to be vulnerable to some sort of attack and thought sonics could be tied in to the mute thing.... sounded good at the time:o

Methinks this guy needs to be tuned a bit more. I had thought about making the original form a bit stronger so maybe I will try that and scrooge some points here & there... Thanks for the input though.

On second thought, speed 4 should be fine when you have 3 characters. The sonic vulnerability seems counter to a character based on a music group.

More Critiques:

  • A 10d6 offensive strike seems to be your most powerful attack. Even with a coordinated attack, this might be lacking. Extra Martial Arts dcs would be the easiest way to increase your power and coordinated attacks (teamwork skill) will up your offensive power.
  • Blue Man's defenses are only 15PD/15ED. Consider raising your total PD/ED. More importantly, you have no resistant defenses, so killing attacks will shread you like tissue paper. Also consider power and mental defense (especially considering your low ego.) Knockback defense would help you stay in combat and prevent a few trips into brick walls.
  • While presence attacks seldom come up in many games, you might want to add a little presense or ego to prevent Blue Man fleeing from a loud noise.
  • Since Blue Man is a melee combatant, some sort of increased movement is vital, especially if you plan on using strength in numbers. If you can't catch your opponent, you can't hit him. Every phase you spend chasing a ranged attacker is a phase that you're being picked off. Any knockback or telekenesis could scatter blue men, allowing you to only bring one character of less than average power to bear at a time.
  • In some groups, enhanced senses is a must as many attacks and abilities make your normal sight useless. This is less important, but the first time your character is struck useless while a good part of your team is barely inconvenienced, you'll run for the rulebook (once my near-indestructable brick got wiped out for a turn from a sight flash).

I haven't played for long, but my group is a bit tougher. Some of the characters have been optimized (one insanely lucky player's in particular) and the GM's bad dice rolls has led him to increasingly powerful enemies, such as Mechanon. I also like to read the rules. If your group is less strict, you might slide by with a few holes. If you find that your GM will try exotic attacks to test your defenses and hammed in mental attacks, you should prepare yourself for the worst.

These guys aren't actually musicians. I'm just using their appearances and actions.

Alright, I will spend some time rewriting the character. I'm having trouble getting what I want with the point total I have. I'm thinking of making him/them mildly telepathic if I can...

I'm having the same problem trying to make a 250 point mage after growing accustom to the defenses of a 350+ point brick.

If you're just wanting them to be able to communicate with each other you could go with this for 15 points:

Mind Link , Alien class of minds, Specific Group of Minds--With duplicates, No LOS Needed, Number of Minds (x4), Psychic Bond (35 Active Points); Only With Others Who Have Mind Link (-1), Does Not Provide Mental Awareness (-1/4)

I'm assuming they'll be exact duplicates of the original so each of them will be paying for the Mind Link which makes the "Only With Others Who have Mind Link" valid
