Goings on in Washington, D.C.: version 2.0

This is a revamp of the original version. Most entries by me will consist of a section on what's publicly known and one that goes behind the scenes.

One week after Dick Cheney suffered a fatal heart attack, Senator James Collingsworth, PhD (in economics), of New Hampshire was announced as his replacement. A pipe smoker, he owns a farm and was diagnosed six years ago with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.

His wife, Ann, is head nurse at George Washington University Hospital's eye clinic and their daughter, Holly, is starting her sixth year as a showgirl employed by the Ross Brothers Circus and third year as the wife of circus ringmaster James Nelson.

Now, behind the scenes. Ann, who isn't going to quit her job, picks up her husband's medications. Some of her Secret Service agents will probably be in scrubs. The Collingsworth farm is 20-minute away, by car, from the state's largest medical center. Holly actually isn't a showgirl. Instead, she's a name performer, which means that she's listed in the program, as Miss Holly.

Re: Goings on in Washington, D.C.: version 2.0

About three weeks after Senator Collingsworth became Vice President, President Bush, while in Florida, was struck down by an assassin's bullet. Within seconds, the assassin was dead, too.

When he was told the news, Vice President Collingsworth immediately ordered the stock market closed. He was then sworn in by a federal judge. He decided to give the Bush family a few days to leave the White House. In the meantime, he'd work in the White House and live in the house at One Observatory Circle.

Behind the scenes, Ann was informed of the developments after assisting Doctor June Martin with a laser procedure and Holly was informed while helping her friend, Rebecca Vasquez Reese, adjust a circus cannon. Hours later, said cannon would launch Rebecca the length of the big top.

Re: Goings on in Washington, D.C.: version 2.0

It took 36 hours to get the Bush family moved out of the White House and the Collingsworth family moved in.

Mrs. Collingsworth goes to work in a Ford Expedition owned by the Secret Service. She was been occasionally criticized for the monotone color and plain look of her scrubs.

When the White House Press Secretary was asked for a comment from a senator that one third of the White House staff used illegal drugs, she replied that the President had ordered the White House Counsel's Office to have the statement investigated. She also said that the investigating agency would be the one to make the report public.

In Public, President Collingsworth has been seen in the company of an African-American man and a blonde woman. The man, Charlie, is his personal assistant (or body man). The woman, Nancy, is his secretarial assistant.

Senator John Martin, from whatever state the campaign city is in, became James Collingsworth's Vice President. A former navy man, he's a lighthouse buff and enjoys attending both professional and amateur sporting events.

His wife, June, an eye surgeon, is on the faculty of the George Washington University Medical School and sees patients at the eye clinic Ann Collingsworth works in They have two daughters, Zoe and Gail.

While Gail stays with her grandparents and attends high school in the campaign city, Zoe, like Holly Nelson, works for the Ross Brothers Circus. Although both women drive big rigs, that's where the similarity ends. While Holly sells programs, performs in the show, bunks with her husband in their motorhome, and drives the cannon truck, Zoe bunks with showgirls, drives the pie car, and works, as needed, in either the cookhouse or pie car.

In the next post, I'll introduce you to a few Secret Service agents and other government people.

Perhaps a better idea for Ann and June would be to have June as the owner of a multi-office group practice and Ann as the nurse in the office closest to the George Washington University Medical Center. June and her fellow physicians would perform eye surgery at GW.

whats going to happen to this thread once the obama administration takesover?

In the campaign I hope to start, Jim Collingsworth became President in March of 2006 and was elected to a full term in November of 2008.

Oh, both the Collingsworth and Martin families are African-American and the men are charismatic individuals and gifted speakers.

At least, that's one answer. Another would be to have Senator Collingsworth and Senator Martin take appointed posts that would be eligible for Secret Service protection.

OK, so far you've established who's who in the administration and the general

situation. What I want to know, though, is what the not-so-general situation

is (i.e., what elements from superhero and movie/TV universes are going to be

popping up in this alternate universe campaign of yours)?

Another question is, which of the people you've already described in previous

posts are shinobi health-care practicioners?

Elements from JAG, NCIS, The District, and Sue Thomas: F.B. Eye may pop up, along with NUMA from Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt series.

Senator Roark, from Sin City, and both Senator Robert Kinsey and the NID, from Stargate SG-1, are around to cause problems, while modern versions of Xena-style Amazons do their best to prevent them.

Oh, none of the health-care professionals are shinobe (ninja).

I forgot to add two serieses that I'm taking elements from. They are X-Files and Criminal Minds.

The United Nations is as corrupt and useless in the campaign as it is in real life.

Many FBI agents, being more interested in their careers than solving cases, do their best to take over cases that other agencies involved in. This has lead the Bureau to be nicknamed The Federal Bureau of Incompetence. The X-Files team, on the other hand, is more interested in solving cases than their career. Working with them is a good way to ruin your FBI career.

Although there is only one official federal agency that sanctions superhero teams and provides the federal liaison, other agencies feel they have the right to send their own liaison and try to influence the team to see things their way.

where did that idea come from?

Oooo... I think we've got a Thread Virgin here (at least with regards to

Mr. Rand's previous 'Campaign Universe' and 'IST' threads).

bubba, it's not so much an idea as it is a question; but in answer to your

question, in MR's previous threads there have been at least two NPCs in

the various versions of his campaign that have been kunoichi (female

ninja) who were also nurses.

What about the Slayers and the Immortals? Do they exist in this universe, or

have they gone the way of the ninja nurses?

At the doctor's office, the staff consists of a nurse, two medical assistants, and an optician. The nurse and medical assistants wear navy scrubs with the practice name and logo, embroidered in white, on the left breast.

Slayers, yes. Immortals, maybe. The Stargate Project, maybe.

Wolfram and Hart replaces DEMON. There is no UNTIL. Sunndydale fell into a crater in May of 2003. Los Angeles and surrounding communities were sent to a demon dimension in June of 2004.

Re: Goings on in Washington, D.C.: version 2.0

In November of 2004, just after the elections, whatever agency, probably either the NID or NSA, declared Buffy and her friends terrorists and sent a team to Scotland to capture them. Fortunately, for Buffy and friends, who now had British citizenship, the British government was warned of the attack.

When the dust settled, the United States ambassador was summoned by the Prime Minister. He was then told what had happened and given a list of the people that had been either caught or killed. He was also told that if the United States didn't assure them that this would never happen again, all ties between the United States and the United Kingdom would be severed. All United States citizens would be expelled, all American military bases would be closed, all trade between nations would be stopped, and American-flagged carriers would be denied access to the United Kingdom.

I'd say that the odds are better than 70-to-30 that it was the NID. The way

that the agency comes across (at least on Stargate SG-1), they're just

arrogant enough to think that they could get away with an illegal op on the

soil of a sovereign nation and not get caught. And with an absolute toad like

Kinsey calling the shots, the odds go up to at least 95%.

Re: Goings on in Washington, D.C.: version 2.0

After a high-level discussion in the Oval Office, the President spoke to the public. He defended the attack, claimed that Buffy and her friends were terrorists who had destroyed an installation that was vital to the national security of the United States and gave the United Kingdom 24-hours to surrender her and her associates before they came and grabbed them.

The Secretary of State called the whole thing very troubling.

The British government, after consulting with Rupert Giles and Elizabeth Anne "Buffy" Summers, released copies of the documents that the Scoobies had taken from the Initiative base.

The next morning, Robert Kinsey spoke to the press for a few moments before getting into his car. He had barely cleared the driveway when it exploded. Although Kinsey was, except for loosing control of his bowels, unharmed, the rear of his car was wrecked. The police later stated that large firecrackers had been placed in the car's mufflers.

Is the Initiative the group that was trying to create a "super-soldier" using,

for lack of a better term, "necrotech"?

I was never a BtVS watcher; my question is based on something that

was mentioned in the "Potential" fanfic that's on the FanFiction.net website.

I know in the past you've incorporated elements from the Clancyverse in

your campaigns (not to mention from other literary sources as well), but

have you ever thought of using stuff from the Mack Bolan, Able Team,

and Phoenix Force books?

Yes, to the question on The Initiative. Mack Bolan and company might show up. The gang from the BBC series Primeval might show up, too.
