Manic Typist
Re: Secret Wars Campaign Log Great teamwork tonight on the part of the PCs, and some creative thinking all around (but special shout out to Darius and Jack) for flipping a potentially deadly situation around into a clean sweep win. Updates potentially coming soon. Just... going BACK to do write ups? Man, it's killing me.... spring break next week though, so I might have time! Manic Typist
Repo men Another player joins the group, and primarily runs the enemy NPCs. His character will be introduced next session. Darius, having discovered that the hack on his system earlier had been to steal a copy of his face searching software and then seen a modified form of it on the web, decides to do the same thing: he modifies it to find the Zephyr. He eventually finds footage of it being towed by a truck and narrows the search radius to a several block radius. Running the information on the tow truck, he learns that it was stolen and torched later. Combing the area, the PCs eventually discover the Zephyr is parked on an upper level of a parking garage, hiding in plain sight. They decide to stake it out and see if anyone shows up overnight. Darius plants a bug on it, just in case. Jack parks on the same level several spots down from the Zephyr and hides inside his car most of the day while the other two set up outside. Night comes and the parking garage empties out…except for Jack’s towncar, a worn pickup truck, the Zephyr, and a windowless van. Using his preternatural vision, Jack determines that there is a life sign inside the van. Within fifteen minutes of the garage officially closing down, three SUVs pull in. A couple of guys get out on the first level, and the SUVs drive up. Two block off the downramp just below the Zephyr and Jack’s position, while the third one drives up the final leg to the roof. All of the men on the upper floors seem to be carrying UMP45 submachine guns and begin to patrol the parking garage. The first level guards might have weapons concealed beneath their jackets. One of the guards thinks he sees something in Jack’s towncar, and begins to close for a closer inspection. Jack decides it’s time to go loud, and pops open the his cardoor to roll out and engage…only to lose his Held Action/Surprise Phase when he is unexpectedly caught by the seatbelt! (His Unluck rolled a 1 before the session). Two guards quickly open fire on him, but his body armor and the car door protect him from taking any serious harm as glass begins to fracture. Darius and Cypher engage the three guards near the entrance on the first level. Each one opens fire from concealed cover, catching the guards unawares. Two guards go down (GM’s note: vitals on both!). The third bolts for the stairs at the corner of the structure, but that brings him closer to Cypher who eliminates him with a double tap from his P90. Upstairs, Jack has his hands full. At least eight guards are on this level, and a ninth runs down from the roof level to join the fray. As they try to approach his position and flank him, Jack pops out as bullets spark off the car and shatter glass. He fires two rounds, spinning the one of the two investigating guards to the ground as the assault rifle round takes him in the arm. The other goes down with a center mass shot ending his life. Jack observes that they are using wrist mounted radios to communicate, and communicates this to the others. Darius immediately begins to try to isolate the frequency as Cypher moves towards the stairs to go support Jack…which is good, as three men with FALs pile out of the back of the van and open up on Jack’s car. Sprinting up the stairs, Cypher and two mercenaries stumble upon each other at the doorway of the second level stairs. Three Perception rolls and DEX rolls later, one mercenary and Cypher are firing simultaneously. World War III erupts as the merc fires off five rounds. Three bullets slam into Cypher, hitting him in the chest, shoulder, and arm. Finger already on the trigger, the impacts twist his body as he unloads two bursts at the two men at point blank range (GM’s note: Cypher hits all 10 times, 5 on each guy!). The firing guard is hit first by a precise grouping as the bullets ripe into his torso (hit locations: arm, chest, stomach, chest, chest). The P90 continues to spit fire as Cypher begins to fall backwards, bullets stitching a bloody trail across the shoulders and neck of the second man (hit locations: arm, vitals, vitals, shoulder, arm). The three men collapse to the ground and don’t move as shell casings slowly roll away. Darius manages to tap into the enemy’s comms and yells “Get out! SWAT’s coming!” He notices that Cypher’s life signs temporarily flat lined and are now very faint. One of the men shouts “Suppress and break!” One of the guards provides covering fire as three others pile into one of the blocking SUVs. Jack leans out and targets snipes the driver in the head, forestalling their efforts to flee. He also eliminates another passenger in the vehicle with a burst from his assault rifle. The mercs retaliate. The assault rifle rounds easily tear into the thin metal of the vehicle, and some of the bullets smash into Jack’s body armor, stunning him. The SUVs aren’t responding as Darius has managed to hack into their OnStar systems and engage the anti-theft mechanism, so they begin to pile into the van which is slowly rolling down the ramp to allow people to hop inside. Jack snaps to and shoots at the driver of the van, killing him. The men with FALs, determined to cover for their allies as they try to escape, focus all of their firepower on Jack’s position. The brutal onslaught of high powered rounds rips through the interior of the car and out the far side into Jack’s armor as well as his arms and legs (Jack’s player used a blue chit to move a neck hit to an arm). He blacks out and slumps backwards. The last three men jump into the back of the van, which takes off and smashed through the SUVs. Down below, a smeared blood trail takes us to Cypher, who has woken up and managed to crawl to a corner of the stairwell. He is weakly covering the approaches with his P90, and hears the van go past his level to the entrance. The van swerves out onto the street, and doesn’t respond as Darius puts two bullets randomly into it. It disappears into the night. Cypher stumbles up the stairs to check on Jack, leaving a trail of bloody handprints and red smears as he struggles up. He finds Jack lying exhausted next to the car, and slumps down next to him. Darius arrives (in perfect condition) to see Jack and Cypher, covered in blood and broken glass, leaning wearily against a ruined car that looks like it belongs on a shooting range. Between Cypher and Darius, the group manages to open up and hack into the Zephyr and start its engines. They find no IDs on the three mercs on this level, and pocket their weapons and ammo before taking the Zephyr and quickly leaving the building before the police arrive. Cypher is in especially bad condition (no body armor), so Darius calls Easy J to find a place that they can take their wounded comrade. Easy J gives them a name and an address: James Reyes, an independent street doctor who doesn’t mind patching up people in Freetown. The PCs head that way. (GM’s note: Amusing, Jack is once more driving, even though he is fairly wounded himself. He has the best skillset for it certainly, but I’m still waiting for someone to make a crack about it)

Manic Typist
Re: Secret Wars Campaign Log Curiously, I seem to have skipped a log, so this one predates the last session log. Perhaps later I'll go through and swap them. *Cue montage music* Scenes flash by, revealing our intrepid heroes engaged in a variety of construction and rehabilitation work: scenes of faulty wiring being torn out, fluorescent lighting replacement, nail guns, screw drivers. Darius installing a cameras and electronic locks, Jack in an apron sweeping copious amounts of dust up while whistling a jaunty tune. Darius repeatedly shocking himself on a piece of wiring until Cypher walks past him and flicks off the machinery without a word and wanders off. Darius calls after him: “Just trying to test my limits!” Darius building headsets from scratch, carefully soldering small circuit boards into tiny plastic cases, examining the interiors through a large magnifying glass, handing one each to Cypher and Jack while putting his own on. Jack demonstrating simple breach and clear tactics as well as rudimentary hand signals. Darius going through papers, editing images, hacking into Immigration databases, receiving mysterious packets, and finally handing Jack a new British passport as well as licenses identifying Jack as a freelance security contractor. After two months of laying low and letting Hudson City’s underworld think they are dead, the group begins to become more active. The group decides to focus more attention on the known mercenary bars to see if they can get a feeler for Saltpeter Mary. Darius will go around as a potential client while Jack will pose as a fresh blood looking to break into the local scene. Of course, they get referred to each other at one point, but more interesting developments take place… While frequenting Krazy Karl’s, Jack is put in touch with a smuggler named Rush, who desperately needs his car back. Rush was ambushed on his last job, and since it was for a new client he wants to recover his vehicle (and the cargo) as quickly and discretely as possible. Jack agrees to take the job in return for Rush “owing” him, since the young man wouldn’t have disposable funds until after he completed the job. He is briefly distracted by a bar fight that breaks out behind him, but finalizes the terms of the agreement before going to investigate a curious individual who has set up shop in one of the back booth’s of the bar… Meanwhile, Cypher fights off an angry young man who has assaulted him at the bar. Cypher had previously been visiting the bar incognito (i.e. out of his mask and coat, without telling anyone that he’d be there). He’d managed to integrate nicely with some locals and was minding his own business when an early twenties, buzz cut man comes out of nowhere and begins to assault him, screaming “I’ll kill you you sonofab*tch! I know what you did! You won’t get away with it!”
